Strength:

$16000 for a car worth $41000 two years ago(so what, depreciation is bad, I do not buy cars soley on resale value you should not either, they all depreciate, and they are only worth what someone is willing to pay) Very strong 275hp engine fit and finish smooth transmission sound system excellent interior appointments excellent airbags galore(very safe/sturdy vehicle) not Grandpa's Lincoln

Weakness:

I hear parts and service expensive(what newer car today is not expensive to maintain?)You have to pay to play. They are replacing Conti with the LS(BMW looking monstrosity) I can only afford one Continental at a time

Overall, a great used car value. I purchased for $16000. Not bad for a vehicle not two years ago was $41000. So this would indicate at the new price the car is fully loaded. IT IS! I do believe if more people had test driven the Continental, more would have been sold. This automobile was targeting the younger crowd with budding family needing space but would not want to give up some driving excitment with just the family truckster. First, the engine is very powerful(wolf in sheeps clothing). You will just about put everyone to shame who think they can beat the hotrod Lincoln. Sure, every car can do 100mph...this Conti can do it between stop lights. Not to mention the nice duel exhaust sound when you stomp on the gas(quiet when just cruising). Interior appointments are excellent as well as the Alpine tape/CD player. It is loud enough and clear enough to make the youngsters with $5000 worth of stereo equipment turn their heads. The active air ride suspension is also a plus, very noticable difference in ride quality/performance in plush, normal, hard mode. I do enjoy floating down the hwy in this Conti. The steering wheel controls for sound system and climate control are a excellent idea and work very well, not to mention cruise control buttons also located on the steering wheel. The virtual instrument/guages are a nice touch, as well as, the console/bucket seat set up. You truly feel you are getting into a fighter plane cockpit. The leather seating area is very comfortable and the heated front seats are excellent. Climate control can be automatic or controlled as you wish. Two driver seat/mirror memory is excellent and a nice touch. Trunk space is far and above expectations. Rear seating area is spacious and very comfortable. My five year old is usually asleep within five minutes of driving. The exterior is very nice and there is enough chrome(for those who still long for it on their automobiles)but not overstated. The car has a very aggressive stance and the power to back it up. Fit and finish is excellent. The deep maroon paint looks to have been layered quite a bit so as to give a deep wet look. Folks, this is not your fathers Lincoln. I recommend the vehicle to those that are just a little tired of the 4 door foreign offerings/domestic offerings.

Strength:

Safty, 4 doors, power, comfort, looks, price (used), reliability, pretty much everything you want in a 4 door. One thing I have noticed about Lincoln products..Typically...The body parts line up great...The lincoln guys must pay special attention to this because, similar ford products do not line up well at all....Humm.......

Weakness:

Handling I guess...I am being picky...Torque steer..Just a little..Front wheel drive..This car would be perfect if it were rear wheel drive..and change steering ratio to correct understeer...I mean it..It would be perfect....The perfect 4 door...As it is...It is only a really good 4 door...

Car is handsome, reliable, powerful, stops great, handles fair. Feels very safe and is confortable even for full size passengers. This is the first front wheel driver I have ever owned...I am not big on front wheel drive, but, since I needed a four door and got this car cheap and it was the size my wife can handle and is safe...I bought it..I enjoy driving it very much..It has some slight torque steering that my wife does not notice but I do. It had 92,000 miles on it with no scratches with factory paint. It has tons of power and will stop on a dime...Since the car has under steer it does not handle like my Mark VIII or porsche or my BMW, but, it is a luxury car and handles ok I guess..For driving and getting around and taking trips and such, it is ideal..It is a very powerful car and really feels good overall. Looks are bullet shaped and rather unasumming which is good for me since speeding tickets are the pits. The 96 connine is very very quite and handles ok for such a 4000lb car. It is a lincoln and I am sure it is very very safe. The doors feel thick and heavy as well as the rest of the car, so..If you get in a wreck and hit someone, I hope they have air bags..lol..I hope they have a Volvo with air bags all the way around..Not sure if you need air bags in this lincoln, But...Mine has them anyway....Talk about over kill....Anyway...Find one with some miles, drive it, see how it is holding up..If it is in good shape and no leaks like the one I have, buy it..you will not be sorry....

Similar Products Used:

I have no similar products since this is my first front wheel driver...Hopefully Lincoln will go to all rear wheel drive...But I can list other cars I own or have owned..Here we go...Mark VII, Mark VIII, BMW 633csi, Porsche 928, Corvette, Supra, Mercedes 300e, I forget....I am sure there are more..

Strength:

Large interior space; great comfort; very ergonomic interior and exterior design; Awesome sound w/ the JBL system; strong, smoothes V8 engine; good gas mileage for full size lux car, front wheel drive with traction control is great for winter driving, good handling with upgrade tire.

Weakness:

Steep depreciation, but I don’t care. I bought it use but still in great condition.

This is my second Continental. My first was a '94 with a 3.8 V6. Total that car in an accident. I walk away with no injuries. So I decided to replace the ’94 model with a ’97 model, thus my review is on the ’97 model. I bought this car use, lest than half the price of the new model at the time. I let other take the depreciation. This car is very comfortable, has plenty of legroom in front and back, easy to drive in city and highway, very reliable. Can handle corner better than you would think. We use this car on long trip and was used in two wedding. One of them is mine and the other is my best friend. With a regular maintains schedule, this car should not give you much problem. None thus for for me and it is at 100K miles. I upgrade a few thing: new set of Yokohama tires at 50K miles, new ceramic brake pads and rotors on all four wheels, use full-synthetic oil at every 7500 miles, and split-fire spark plugs. You take care of the car and the car will take care of you.

Great engine, nice looking, leather interior, performance

Weakness:

Transmision went out after 112000 miles. I guess I pushed it a little too much. I only drove it up to 115mph...Very expensive to repaire and replace parts.

Well, I got this car from my parents for free so I can't complain much. I was thinking oh man what an old man's car but let me tell you something; I fell in love with this car. This car is very comfortable with lots of power. For being a 21 years old I used this car everyday and I enjoyed every minute of it. I drove this car 20 hours straight and I only got sleepy but not tired from driving it.

Strength:

Good power from the V8, but not terrible gas mileage. After a trip to Philadelphia we calculated the mileage to be over 24 mpg on the highway. Nice riding car, good looking dash, nice leather interior.

Weakness:

Brakes are squeaking, but I think it has the original rotors. I am looking to replace them soon.

I almost didn't buy this car bacause it seemed to good to be true. The car had 50,000 miles on it and I bought it for 30% of it original sticker price. It has to be one of the best values in the used car market. My Lincoln is loaded including a moonroof. It gets compliments all the time. It is equipped with a center console that gives it a sporty feel. I have heard these cars refered to as an "Old Man Car" but let me tell you this thing will honk if you put your foot into it. I have had no problems with this car after 8 months of ownership.

None so far

I can't believe reading all of these reviews about this best American car. Where did all these morons come from??? Buying some 10-15 year old car and trying to complain about it when they paid like $400 or $500???? I have a 2001 fully loaded Continental and it is simply the best car I have ever driven in. No problem and no complaints. BEST OF THE BEST!!! comes very close to Benz and Bimmers. I will post my review about my car really soon None of the GM or Chrysler vehicles even come close to Lincoln!! I wish Carreview would take off reviews of those dumb bums with some junk yard cars that are fully depreciated!!! Those bums don't count

AC, electrical seating, brakes, road noise

I bought this 2000 Lincoln continental from a Lincoln dealer in Jacksonville and thank God the car came with a 70,000-mile warranty. When I bough the car it had 25,000 miles on it. Although it came with a upgraded stereo and CD changer the sound quality is lacking. The front driver’s seat back would suddenly lay down and would not stop until it laid all the way down. Pressing the button to stop the seat back from moving would not work until the back had reached its maximum decline position, then you could move the seat back where you wanted it. This was more than a little unnerving when the car was moving. The dealer replace the module but now I have other problems with the seating positions, sometimes the electric seat will not move at all other times it moves by itself. Because this is an intermittent electrical problem the can not fix it. Now for the AC. AC worked great when I bought the car in December. As the outside temperature rose the AC functioned less efficiently. Had it in the shop for two weeks and they were unable to repair because they could not find the problem. Today (July 5 2003) the AC went out completely (at 45,000 miles) I hope the dealer can fix it this time. Funny that when I think back on it I had similar problems with my Ford AreoStar’s AC. Had to have the brakes and rotors replaced at 27,000 miles. As you can see I have put 21,000 miles on this car in 6 months and am on the highway frequently. The road noise from this car is so bad I must slow the car below 55mph so I can hear on my speakerphone. The antenna built into the back window is good for appearance but get lousy reception as you leave town. I am looking to sell this car before I get 50k miles on it, hope I can get the AC fixed. Overall I am very disappointed in this vehicle and will not recommend it to anyone. I like to keep my cars and don’t trade up every year. I had a VW beetle in the 70s and early 80, put over 250,000 miles on it, my Aerostar made it past 300K and my 94 Volvo 940 turbo made it to 260k before it was totaled. I was hopping to get similar mileage on this Lincoln but it won’t make it in my stable past 50K This car was a very disappointing purchase.

Strength:

Front end and rear end appearance. Sound system, steering choice options, comfort, acceleration, gas mileage, luxury options, sun roof, leather, analog clock, and climate control system.

Weakness:

Side appearance of car is boring, stiff-front wheel drive suspension, limited seat adjustment options, part replacement costs, and lack of extra internal storage compartments, pockets, etc.

Outstanding Lincoln craftsmanship. Ideal example of American engineering. Outstanding as a freeway car and better-than-good in town driving. If well maintained, this car is a great used car-buy.
