Strength:

Looks, Dealership/Service Center treatment, Smooth Ride, Fit & Finish, very reliable

Weakness:

Poor acceleration on the GS300, mushy transmission (purposely common to most cars in this class), unimpressive handling

I couldn't be happier with the ride, fit and finish on this car. It has proven to be extremely reliable, very smooth, and best of all a real looker. I think it is better looking than the BMW 5's and Mercedes E's, yet not as pretentious - it is classy without being overstated. The interior is very classy, but I would recommend the wood-trim steering wheel and shifter knob if they are available to dress it up some more. The exterior finish is excellent, which you can see when you park next to a lesser priced car of the same color. The GS300 is underpowered, but it's on par with its competitors base engines. If you can afford it, I would definately go with the GS400. That was my biggest mistake, and if I could go back I would get the V8. Over all that, the best thing about this car is the dealership - I've never been treated so well at a car dealer. From the initial purchase, which consisted of very minimal haggling and "sales techniques", to the service center, these dealers are extremely oriented toward the long-term satisfaction of their customers. You can tell they want repeat business. They provide free car washes any weekday, and they don't try to "sell up" when I bring my car in for a warrantee or other issues. They have free coffee, snacks, sandwiches and soda in the waiting room, which also happens to have a TV, stereo and VCR. I would definately buy this car again if I were looking for a mid-size sport-luxury car.

BMW 5 series, Mercedes E320. Nicer looking than both, more comfortable ride than both, but BMW 5 is more of a driver's car - you feel the road more.

Strength:

Quiet cabin, very smooth ride, great top end speed.

Weakness:

A little sluggish off the line.

This car is the best car I have ever owned and the one that I've also kept the longest. Bought it in 1997 and has driven like a dream since. Only have had to replace the brakes and rotors which is normal wear and tear for a car. I look forward to passing this car on to someone so they can enjoy it as much as I did. Great family car. Very reliable and safe.

I dont compare this car with anything else.

Strength:

Quiet ride, good fit and finish, good value.

Weakness:

Transmission and acceleration. We have had two problems dismissed by service as being caused by the way we drive. A nagging hesitation when accelerating from a stop, and a slipping transmission between 2nd and 3rd, when the engine can race up to 1000 rpm before slamming into gear. Both problems blamed on electronic controls and unacknowledged by dealer as an issue. These problems are intermittent and the dealership says that they cannot duplicate them, even over a week-long stay for the slipping transmission.

Very nice overall compromise between sporty performance of BMW 528-30 and the price of a Mercedes. More focus on luxury than sporty handling. Silky and quite ride. Dealer experience at purchase excellent. Service experience to date has been polite but ineffective.

Strength:

nice stlye and shape, pearl was a nice color, many luxuries u only see in car now, heated seats, auto lights, auto climate

Weakness:

not japan quality, based on repairs thought I was driving an american car, never buy a lexus again

Trade my 96 accord for a touch of luxury, a 93 lexus gs300, nice car good looks but I think i Got a lemon or the original owner did no repairs to it. Oil leak from start $1,500 to fix, air condensor broke dealer replaced but then the hoses were leaking , then after 3 months fuel pump broke ($400 to repair) would have loved to keep car put new rims, brakes, shocks and springs even up graded the sub woofer, quite a head turner, but the repairs were a killer for a car in the lexus name. FINALLY HORN BROKE ONE DAY .Finally traded the car in for a more reliable brand Honda accord. won't buy another lexus again nice car but its still a toyota with a different name and more costly repair fees.

honda accord just does not compare to it, based on my experience I only give it one star, if had a better one I would give it better
