Styling, comfort, feel, fit finish,

Weakness:

Performance needs more kick but I guess thats what the new IS is for.

This car is a classy car to drive although it sometimes lacks in the performance area. Although still probably the benchmark for its class which doesnt include performance entry level luxury automobiles such as the BMW 3-series, Lexus needs to add options such as nav system to the ES that are included in the TL and I-30 which are not to far behind.

Strength:

I love this cars beautiful interior. The wood and leather are a real treat and give the car a taste of luxury. It's engine, although relatively small for a V6 can really coast especially when your flooring it around another vehicle. I dont care what other people have said about it, I love the way its body style looks.

Weakness:

The leather that was put in the 250 models was really cheap I think. The drivers side leather is in pitiful shape in my car. The power steering has a leak, but nothing a little plug-a-leak wont take care of. And also, because it hasnt been made since 1991, there arent many options that can be installed in it now. For example, a cd player

I LOVE THIS CAR! Any lexus that you can buy for almost under $10,000 is worth it. The body style might be a little out dated, but it is still cute and luxurious, and who really cares because the interior makes up for any exterior flaw. Whoever said that the lexus is nothing more than a done up Camry has obviously never driven both of the two cars. Perfect luxury car for a teenager who cant wait to break into the lexus market of high dollar sedans! If you can find one, (they are kind of hard to come by), BUY IT!!!

Smooth, quiet, comfortable, impeccable fit and finish, high quality materials, handles beautifully. accelerates briskly and dealer attitude is first rate.

Weakness:

Wish the trunk was a little larger.

Anyone who is seeking a quiet, comfortable, smooth riding, highly reliable, quality vehicle with a touch of performance would like this vehicle. In addition, the treatment rendered by the dealer is top notch.

Extensive research for six months before purchase. Test drove the Acura TL and Infinity I30 on several occasions. No comparison in my opinion. Incidentally, anyone who thinks this is really a Camry is dead wrong. My sons Mother-in-law had several Camry XLEs until recently leasing an ES300. She now agrees it is an entirely different car.

Almost everything. Superb performance, smooth ride, quick and nimble, fabulous styling, reliable, sound system, overall comfort

Weakness:

The only CD option is a 6 disk changer in the trunk (also $1000!)

Overall, my favorite car to drive compared to a 1999 Acura 3.2TL and a 1996 Lexus LS400. I just like the ES300 more in terms of performance and comfort. As mentioned above, almost everything is either good or great about this car. My only complaint is that there is no factory in-dash CD player, although I have installed a Sony 10 disk changer in mine, which cost me a total of $250, compared to the dealers cost of $1000. This car is absolutely fabulous. I would buy one in each color if I had the resources to do so.

This car is a blast to drive and a great value. Got the leather trim, sunroof, 6 CD-Changer and blue ellipsoid lighting. Great power at 210 hp and just really easy to drive. The mineral green metallic really pops. I'd highly recommend this car to anyone looking for a great 4-dr sedan with some styling.

Very nice looking, comfy, fast as hell.

Weakness:

It's not mine :(

Ok, so it's my parent's car, but who cares? I love this thing...totally gets the chicks :) hah hah. No seriously, who can deny that this is one of the best cars around? not exactly the most sporty thing out there, but as far as comfort, quiet rides, this is the best I've been in. Not too pricy either, considering how much a Mercedes costs. Gotta love those leather seats :)

Strength:

Quiet, great sound system, good power, nice controls, sleek car.

Weakness:

I have a '94 and I prefer the handling of the newer models. the '94 is too tight and the suspension sensitive. Some wind noise coming from the window seals in the rear.

I paid $20k a couple of years ago with 57k on the clock. It still has warranty left on it now at 90k. It's been a great car with few problems. All the expensive (but relatively minor) problems were fixed for free at the dealer. There's no question I'll buy Lexus again because it's a hassle free car and the warranty has saved me a few thousand dollars.

Strength:

Car is as much in style today as it was when I purchased it new in 1992, and looks/performs identically, even after 135,000 miles. Other than a transmission at 125,000 miles, I've not had a single mechanical problem (knock wood!) with it. This is a car that will easily go 200,000 miles for me.

Weakness:

A great car, but keeping up the required service (Every 3000 miles) to maintain the warranty is far too expensive. $60 for a light oil change, $300+ for the timing belt? The same parts for the Toyota Camry, with the exact engine, are 1/3 the repair cost! I've spent over $8,000 since 1992 with Lexus, just on required service! Very minor leaks on most of the windowseals when you wash it, but nothing else at all.

For the $27,500 I paid, the Lexus ES-300 represented a wondeful performance value. I still feel that way. You can get one for just a few dollars over dealer cost, if you pre-select your options, and compare every Lexus dealer you can. The car is solid, sporty, and very fun to drive. Fuel economy is poor, at 15 mpg, and a 300 mile range on a tank of (Premium only) gas can add up in a hurry. But beware of dealer-added "extras". The 6 disk Sony CD player adds $1200, but you can find it at any audio shop for $300, installed. The extended warranty (~$700) is worth the money! Without it, I would have had to pay $1200 for a 3 foot piece of rubber weatherstripping on the underside of the doorframe. My single complaint is with Lexus service. They treat you like gold, because any service costs easily 2x what it would anywhere else, except I couldn't find anyone other than Lexus to perform the service! I'd buy the Camry next time. It's the same car, just $3000 less out the door, with 1/2 the repair costs. If Lexus wonders why their sales are down so much, they need to first focus on the hidden costs of ownership. The 50,000 mile check can top $600, for plugs, filters, etc. A great and wonderful automobile, just hold on to your wallet as you drive it.

Strength:

Quiet, comfortable, good handling, very well made.

Weakness:

Expensive to maintain (even if nothing breaks). CD player (6 CD's in trunk) is inconvenient. Cup holder is also inconvenient. Both better on later models.

This is really my wife's car. She does a lot of driving for her work, and wanted something comfortable. We debated between a new Camry (or similar) vs. a 3 year old Lexus for about the same $$$. However, the used Lexus came with a longer bumper-to-bumper warrany than the new Camry. Also, my wife needs her car every day, and Lexus provides a free loaner when you bring your car for service. That clinched it!!

She previously drove a Ford Crown Vic, and thought that she loved that "big boat" feel. However, she has learned to appreciate the ES300's nimbleness.

Two relatively minor complaints- CD player (in trunk-- she never remembers to load new CD's, and those same songs are driving her nuts!!), and location of cup holder (it obscures radio & climate controls). I think both were corrected in later models.

Note, however, that Lexus service is very expensive: almost $400 for the 60,000 mile check up. However, I have to admit that Lexus volunteered to replace 2 struts under warranty (no deductible!!). Maybe you do get what you pay for!!

Conclusion- My wife loves her Lexus ES300. She is considering getting rid of it after the warranty runs out to avoid high repair costs (probably at about 95K miles, so it will have some transferable warranty), and will probably get another Lexus.
