Strength:

Was good value. Nice comfy car. Uses regular, but if you want any performance better use 90+. Extremely reliable engine electrical and drive train. Above average safety.

Weakness:

A virtual twin camry costs 4-6000 less. Performance and handling are not there. Very dated design. No head room. Arrogant salesforce, up there with Merc, BMW and Tiffany's. Brakes wear quickly. Fit and finish not all that. Residual value has plummeted from 55% to 45% over 3 years. Average gas mileage. Acura TL is cheaper and not as boring.

Moving on to a real luxury car. This car was a good deal 3 years ago, but now is too expensive for what it delivers. Acura delivers more bang for the buck. If you have the money step up to an Audi A6 turbo or BMW 525i or if you want more luxury a Jag S 3.0. Lexus is selling too many cars to keep the quality and residual value high for me to lease. I will have to pay over 100/mo to get the same car I have now and the price went DOWN!

Strength:

Smooth ride and engine. Very silent ride. Comfortable Front & Back seats. Huge trunk. Sleek looks. Awesome interior and electro-cathode dash. I love the standard (Pioneer) systems and glove compartment CD-Changer. Outstanding Customer Service by all dealers in California and Virginia. Classy Two-tone color: Diamond Pearl White/Sage Pearl.

Weakness:

NONE!!!

I highly recommend this car. You can't beat the ride, drive, comfort, quality build, and outstanding customer service that comes with owning the LEXUS ES300. It'll kill the Mercedes C-class (2000 model and before) any day and in every aspect. I am sure the new redesigned 2002 Lexus ES300 will destroy the 2001 C-Class in terms of looks and technology -- when it comes out September 2001. The 2001 Infiniti I-30 is a good match, but not good enough. BMW 3-series drive more sporty, but the interiors are shaby, dull, and boring...and as soon as BMW redesigns their cars...they look old and dated. The LEXUS always look pretty fresh. I always get compliments from everybody old, young, and the ladies.....If I buy another entry luxury sedan.....I will buy another LEXUS ES300 over the competition - ANY DAY!!!!!!

Strength:

I love the spring control I think that's great for potholes and bumpy roads you won't feel a thing! I like the heated seats but it wouldve been nice if they put in a Low to High Heated Seats Because they only have one temp to go on only the new models have that. I love the CD Changer it doesnt skip like my friend's Volvo S80 We went to the shore and we traveled thru a bumpy road and the CD would skip ALOT! But that doesnt happen on my car. Oh yeah I forgot the only thing that I really truly LOVE Is the style on this car WOW It looks so sleek and sporty I love the style! And the engine is very pepy I love that too It's very powerful. The Trac Control is very good and ABS Is great!

Weakness:

I think that ONE weakness on this car is the FOG LIGHTS! they seem very very dull and they are not powerful like the other sedans i've seen. I really dislike them I wish they would make is brighter. But i've seen the 2000 those FOG LIGHTS Are very good.

I Really love this car I mean it was better then my last car ( which was a AUDI A6 ) This car has it all I really love this car in every way So if you were looking at buying this car BUY IT!! You will never ever regret I love it! But remember that theres alot of dealers who put a big sticker on this car I mean i saw my car at 34,000 and i bought is for 28,000 so just dont send 40,000 for this car ( its worth it tho ) :-)

Look i was at a red light on eagle rock ave. and this cute guy with a 2000 TL was next to me and he started to look at me then he revved his engine ( so did i ) and when it turned green i floored it BUT I forgot to turn of the TRAC CONTROL and he left while i was trying to go but the TRAC held me back :-( Next time i'll win! Ok well i only had 2 races on the High Way ONE with a BMW It was a 3 ser and i floored it BABY!!! and I flew away from I could see him trying to get to me but i was going 86 and i dont think he coulded caught up with me :-) So I think that my car is one of a kind top SPORTY LUX SEDAN OUT THERE!

Weakness:

no navigation system yet...there will be one for '02

lexus has the #1 selling luxury car for any brand, japanese, german or usa.
look how much lexus has done in just 10 years compared to some others that have been selling cars for 100plus years....also lexus has the most trouble free cars for the past 10 years...they outsold BMW and BENZ in about 2-3 years of being sold in the US....with only a few models LS400,ES300,SC300,GS300.

Strength:

Beautiful lines. Paint work fit and finish as good as new.Quite, comfortable and smooth running motor.

Weakness:

Acceleration could be better.Repairs tend to be expensive.CD changer in the boot.

A beautiful car to own. Lexus achieved in a decade what Benz took over 100 years to achieve. Buy one and enjoy driving it. It is not the fastest on the road but has a good balance of everything.

great car. great sound system in a very quiet car. I have 65,000 miles on it and have not seen a dealer yet with any problems. I would recommend this car to anyone wishing to buy a quality automobile at a very good price.

Strength:

Very quiet, smooth, and comfortable. It's a very reliable car. I have had it for over 2 years and I still love it!

Weakness:

Very conservative look. Needs 17'' rims!

Very nice car to own. Since I'm 21, I would rather own a BMW 3 series. I love the smooth ride, leather, comfortable seats, and the great reliability! I would definitely buy another Lexus.

Strength:

Quite on smooth roads. Nice stereo.

Weakness:

Still very noisy when driving on rough roads. Very difficult getting into gears when engine is cold. Wiper is the worst feature.

Learned my lesson: Test drive before you buy.

Strength:

Overall build quality, smoothness, quietness

Weakness:

Center console wood panel, radio/HVAC panels, door window switch wood panels all making clicking noises when going over bumps or just starting from a stop or stepping on the brakes. Worse in cold weather. Really takes away from the classyness of the car. It is actually embarrassing! Either the panels are too thin and they are flexing, especially with temp. changes and/or the clip retaining system is a bad design. I think Lexus needs to do alot more work in the area. This is a really big disappointment to me. Also, the automatic is slow to downshift into 2nd when kicking down on the gas. It's like the car takes a deep breath before deciding to downshift. I wonder if there is a software fix for this?
Engine needs more low end torque.

Great car but needs more work in certain areas. I don't think that Lexus is sweating as many of the details as they should be, at least in their entry level model.

Model Reviewed: ES300 Platinum Series

Strength:

Fit and finish, leather interior, styling, engine, dash lighting, cd changer in glove box (not trunk), good acceleration, solid braking.

Weakness:

Way too much suspension/tire noise gets transmitted into the passenger area when driving on any road that has bumps. I have called the dealer and Lexus Customer Care several times on this issue. I am also getting squeaks/rattles from the dash area over bumps (first noticed squeaks when car had only 200 miles on it). Aluminum wheels are scratched, even though I go to a brushless car wash. On "washboard" type roads, the ride is somewhat harsh. Front dips during normal braking. Somewhat disappointed with premium stereo system.

There is a lot to like with the Lexus ES300. Unfortunately, the amount of tire/suspension noise I have experienced and the squeaks/rattles have ruined the new car experience for me. I would not be happy with the same amount of tire/suspension noise and rattles/squeaks in any new car, particularly a car in the mid $30K's range. If you drive on all relatively smooth roads, you will probably love the ES300. If you commute on choppy or bumpy roads, test drive the ES300 on these roads before you buy. All the roads near the dealer I purchased my car from were in fine shape. If I had test driven the car on the roads I use, I never would have purchased the ES300. I did use a 99 ES300 loaner car when my car was in for service. The loaner car's ride (on the same roads) was smoother, the amount of tire/suspension noise less, and the handling better than my 2000 Platinum Series. I have not had the opportunity to drive another Platinum Series on the same roads. Therefore, I do not know if my experience is unique to my car, or if I would have the same experience with any 2000 Platinum Series. Bottom line - test drive on the roads you normally use, not the normal test drive route.

Test drove a BMW 328 2-door coupe and that car was my first choice. Unfortunately, there was a four month wait. Wish I had waited.
