Strength:

Smooth Engine with good torque. Super Comfy seats and good climate system.

Weakness:

Expensive to service. Falls apart after 120,000 mi. Poor dealer service. Make that extremely poor dealer service. Poor traction on wet roads (rear can kick out very easily because of the torque). Bose system went completely dead.

Great car when everything is working fine.

Fun to drive and looks like a lot more money than what you'll pay for it.

Worst nightmare in time and $$ when it starts to fall apart.

Strength:

High Top End Torque
Smooth ride at ALL speeds
Comforable Ride
Gorgeous when clean
Cabin provides you with all you'll need

Weakness:

Wish it would begin in 1st gear rather than 2nd gear
Seats need to be taken care more than others
Have to hold back in the rain or you will spin out

When I recieved the car, I was impressed with how much I got with the price I paid. As soon as I began to drive the car, I was blown away by the amount of torque. I knew what it had, but I never knew it would deliver as much as it did. As I began to get used to the car, I began to drive it harder. The car has given me a few problems, but only those brought on by myself. I had to replace all the brakes, and I cracked my right tension rod. Went a little too fast. Anyway, the car still runs at 100%. THe only thing to know is that you must clean it on a weekly basis or it will look like crap.

Strength:

Excellent overall value including super silent interior, powerful V8, full of luxury. Mileage at 19Mpg average, not bad at all. Edmunds.com says new Q is more silent than the LS430 !!!!

Weakness:

None

I am reacting to the previous posting by Neil of Nashville on his poor rating of Q45 and the points he talked about.
Lets see,
1. Strut suspension , Well, you pay much more for a BMW right ?
They use Strut as well. Now,I don't think you knew that ? Gotcha !!
Use of Strut will help reduce the weight of car while providing
sportier ride.
2. Tire noise is it ? I have driven the new LS430 and I have the old '97 Q45. I see no difference in terms of road noise . Forget about tire noise. Its very quiet and smooth as velet.
3. Service: I can be sure you have absolutely no idea what infiniti provides for service. JD Power & Associates ranked Infiniti as the TOP rater for customer service statisfaction and Lexus was far down the ranking.
4. Talking about Engineering ? The maxima/I-30 VQ series 3.0V6 has won numerous accolades as the best import V6 for 6 years. If you open up the engine, it will outshine the V6 found in Camry,ES,IS,RX in seconds.
The new V8 is based on the same model with even more tecnological advancements ( titanium valves, ultra-light piston rods etc ).

Seeing your neignbor's new Q parked, the 430 owner just couldn't breath easy without writing somethin against it. Accept the fact, 430 is sold at almost invoice ( 4K below MSRP ) and you are talking about discount on the new Q. Take it easy pal, you can still tread in your 430 for the new Q. Get the 18 inch wheels and enjoy the 340HP Q and see other 430s through the auto-dimming rear view mirror. The lexus tried hard with their LS430s V8 to even touch 300HP mark with their latest 2 door supposedly "SPROTS" coupe SC430. The LS has a mere 290hp. The new Q at 340HP is a technical marvel. Look at EDMUND's latest review > "Initial impressions were that the cabin was even quieter than that of the Lexus..."

Nothing worth not recomending the automobile

First of I would like to say how much of an amazing car this is. In a value driven world like this you can not find a better buy when it comes to a luxury car. I aranged a test drive of the new 2002 Q45 with Modern Infinty of Greensboro, NC (they were more than helpfull). Infinity has really outdone itself when it comes to presenting itself to the public, its dealership was the nicest in the area and it staff were top notch profesionals. Now on to the car.....
As you approach the vehicle you know you are in for a treat. Behind the aggressive titanium colored grill (which is in front of the headlights and lowered a bit is really sporty looking) is a 4.5 litre work a Nissan magic. The 4.5 V-8 is only .4 litres larger than the previous model's engine, but it produces 70 more horsepower ( 340 compared to 270 ). The engine is fully tricked out, utilizing variable exhaust and intake manifolds, electronic throttles, and titanium valves filled with sodium for cooler running. The engine twists it 333lbs. of torque through a 5 speed manumatic, with traction control and the like to the rear 18x8 wheels. 0-60 in less than 6 seconds is a small feat in this car, you can smoke the punk teen in the 'stang with 4 of your buddies with no problem.
The interior is bar-none. High Quality leather, comfortable sports seats, power everything, dual-zone climate control, computer that monitors car systems, an 8 speaker 300watt sound system with a subwoofer, and mostly everything is voice activated. The wood trim is real, and might I add beautiful. The Q is available with a DVD navigation system, power rear seats, and a back-up camera.
This is the best car I have ever had the privilage to test drive, including BMWs, Mercedes, Audis, and Lexus.

Strength:

Unassuming luxury of a MBZ, BMW. Healthy V8. Excellent fit and finish.

Weakness:

Unassuming luxury of a MBZ, BMW- only other Q45 owners will appreciate it. V8 gas mileage.

Wow, what a car. I am quickly realizing that I just landed a pretty good deal from the local Infiniti dealer. With only 77k miles, this car doesn't look more than 2 years old. It's in perfect condition.

It isn't really what I'd call a sports sedan like a BMW 540 or the Volvo T5-R, but rather like a Lincoln without the poor build quality and mushy ride. It also doesn't look like much from the outside, but inside you soon appreciate the car's original $50k price tag. It has about every bell & whistle you could ask for.

Ride quality is very nice. Again, it's not mushy like an American luxury car. There's plenty of communication from the steering wheel and brake pedal, all the while isolating the passengers from road noise and bumps in the road. I'd call it near perfect for a luxury sedan (though I have to admit I haven't sampled what Lexus has to offer). It's equally as nice as any of the Euro sedans I've driven (MBZ E 300, S 500, Volvo 850 T5-R sedan). Seats are firm, but supportive and comfortable. Leather is kind of hard, I'm not sure if that's good or bad. I figure it's at least durable.

The Bose soundsystem is the best factory stereo I've ever sampled. From midbass all the way up to the highest frequencies, it sounds great. While audiofiles may not like the Bose sound, I found it very spacious and crisp. Low bass is lacking for my tastes, so an aftermarket subwoofer will be my next purchase. The controls are also very well thought out- a motorized panel hides separate bass, treble, balance & fader level knobs. The only option this car didn't come with was the CD changer, but you can order a compatible unit from Crutchfield for under $300 (factory changers go for around $400).

All in all, this is an awesome car. We'll see how it goes long-term. From what I've read/heard, it's a greatly underappreciated car. In fact, I was browsing the '02 Q45s at the dealer, looking at what I'll be purchasing in about 4 years from now. I'm glad more buyers don't realize what great deals there are on used luxury cars like the Q45.

Weakness:

seats are very hard to keep clean, tires seem to wear out every other week.also, a knocking and whinning noise coming from the trunk area.

well, she's been a really good car, i gotta say, the best thing about this car is the moon roof. i took my girlfriend and her sisters on a ride, it wasnt 3 miles before she was standing up and taking the top down. one thing i have had problems with, is keeping the seats cleaned, there seems to be a gooey sticky substance that reappers every time i let my girlfriend use it. as for reliability, i havent really ever thought about checking the oil, i must say, my girlfriend seems to really like the trunk space., which is nice when she starts up her nagging and complaining. it hasnt giving me any problems, i have noticed a knocking and whinning noise coming from the trunk area on occasion though, havent gotten around to having that diagnosed yet, maybe, in the next week or so.

This car is phat. I have never in my life ever driven a car with this kind of speed. It has style, class. My friends love it. And the sound system is a blast. Nissa does a perfect job with the factory sound system.

Weakness:

The only thing I dislike about the car is the headlights. The way they are made isn't like the 2000 modles, with the clearness hallogens. still in my opinion, I give the Infiniti 290 out of 100%.

The car has speed, class, and sound.
Friends love it.

Strength:

Gobs of power, excellent fit and finish, including exterior paint. Very well engineered to minimize breakdowns. Excellent for long trips, great stereo.

Weakness:

Gobs of power = Gobs of gas. On the large side, but rarely a problem day to day. Ride can be a bit stiff, but only on really long rides will you notice it. At 200,000 miles, the stereo started to go, and I have a good feeling the fuel injectors are on their way too. Dealer service is expensive, and for routine service (e.g., 15k, 30k, 60k) you don't get anything that a good mechanic will give you at a much better price. I was amazed at how much WASN'T included for the price. Do-it-yourselfers beware: There's a reason service costs so much--engine is VERY hard to get to and involves a lot of time, even if you only want to get to the valves. Aint nothing like most American cars.

This car has been amazingly trouble-free, considering I just passed 208,000 miles. Bought it 2 years ago at 174,000 miles. I've driven it from L.A. to Boulder and back 3 times, and thoroughly enjoyed each trip. The previous owner took great care of the car--it honestly still looks almost new. I have yet to meet someone who isn't shocked when I tell them the age and mileage of the car. Yes, I've put some money into it, but only for things that wore out (brakes, tires, hoses, OEM suspension). Except for an ignition circuit breaker ($8) this car has yet to break down on me.

Strength:

Power, smoothness, front seat room, good looks.

Weakness:

Seats are rather flat and stiff, doors are kind of tinny when closing

The Q45 is a beautiful car. I love it. Brakes, fuel pumps, tires, and fuel injectors are a few known issues with these cars. But, I have not had any problems yet. The fact is, if you have 50,000 to pay for one of these when you buy it, why do people complain at the high cost of upkeep? If you want to drive a technologically superior vehicle, you have to pay for it. For example, one reason fuel pumps wear out on this vehicle is because they are special three-speed pumps built exclusivly for the Q45, whereas most pumps are one speed units. Why brakes and tires?...because the car weighs so much. The Q45 has a timing chain which saves about $600 every 60,000 miles over the LS400 for its timing belt replacement. The point is, if you're going to buy ANY premium vehicle, you have to pay a premium to maintain it. The Q45 is for a person who wants more sport and value over the plush and overpriced LS400 in comparison. I am very happy with mine.
