Strength:

Solid, decent power, good handling.

Weakness:

Styling, I dont find this to be a very attractive car, looks better as a Maxima in my humble opinion. Not very roomy and not a great amount of trunk space (wifes ''00 Camry seems roomier), quirky automatic transmission.

This is actually my fathers car but I drive it regularly when he goes out of town and leaves it at my house. It is an ok car but I''m not particularly impressed by its "I''m a wannabe luxury car" looks. When you get down to it this is just a Maxima, so I dont see how a few changes automatically transfer into a luxury car. I prefer the Maxima from a styling standpoint too. Anyway, this car drives nice, has been reliable (only had it 4 months but has 35k miles on it). It goes fairly good when you stomp on the accelerator but nothing to write home about, and it seems to be pretty well put together. But a true luxury car i.e. Mercedes, BMW, etc., it is not. As a second hand car its a decent value but I would feel like a sucker if I had to pay full sticker price.

Strength:

ENGINE: lots of power, smooth, is absolutely great!
TRANSMISION: smooth, very responsive.
INTERIOR: all the features I can imagine. Comfortable, great leather quallity, power everything, great climate control system, great BOSE sound system, light absorbant interior mirror, ROOMY, QUIET, excelent fit & finish, good quality of materials. Big trunk.
EXTERIOR: not to fancy, a classic look, standard alloy weels, Infiniti style.
EXCELENT MPG: great for this volume of car & engine!
Speed Sensitive Power Steering.

Weakness:

Front weel drive. I notice that right now, almost all the similar cars are coming on market with front wheel drive(see: Lexus, Acura, Audi, etc.), but in my opinion a real luxury car should have rear weel drive(see: BMW, Benz, Cadillac, etc.).
Doors quality. When you slam the rear doors, is coming a "cheap" feeling, nothing to do with BMW or Mercedes(probably no problem when compare with Lexus or Acura, but no germans...). Just sound cheap, and they are very light, something not right there.
Exterior design(1998): could be a little more elaborate, but still a clasic look, I like it.

In my opinion is the best performance/quallity/luxury you can buy with this amount of $. Is the best selling of Infiniti line of luxury vehicles, well known for quality, luxury and very reliable.
The car is fast, smooth, opulent interior, all the features you ever need, roomy, and fit & finish is exceptional.
I did this purchase after a long resarch, I test drove Lexus ES300, Acura 3.2TL, Volvo S70, Audi A6, BMW 528, Maxima and I found this as the best I can have for my $. Of course, you can get better cars, but my walet can not open wider!
I was impresed. The ride is so smooth, the engine has a lot of power, that makes the car so fun to drive. Is not a BMW 5 series, but is a half price!
Is a good car, low meintenance vehicle, low MPG, high quality materials, fast when driving, great ABS brakes, quiet inside.

Similar Products Used:

Lexus ES300: 99% same car, same quality, same smoothnes, Lexus has lower performance, higher price(I belive is overpriced), borring design.

Acura 3.2TL: I like the design, the engine, but the fit & finish is not the same as I30, the smoothnes as well.

BMW 528: for a 98 528, with the same miles, you have to pay double. Is a great car, but not for my walet.

Honda Accord, Toyota Camry: no comparation.

Maxima: belive me, is a different car. A different ride, comfort, equipment, dealership. Not much cheaper.

Volvo S70: boxy look, ugly interior design, no power, no such room inside, no sound system, just safety.

Audi A6: great design, interior & exterior, excelent quality, but NO ENGINE!, same front weel drive, I30 is much powerful, smoother, and cheaper!

Strength:

Everything!!! My mother owns a 2000 i30t and my brother owns a 98 i30 and both are beautiful cars that have never had a problem. There are no weaknesses at all on either one of these cars. The service you receive from infinity is admirable to say the least. That v6 in the 98 is awesome but the v6 in the 2000 is even better but I couldn't think of a word better than awesome!!!! The sound system is great in the 98 but better in the 2000. Everything about that 98 is awesome and everthing about the 2000 is even better!!!! This car

Weakness:

NONE!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! This is a great car!!!!

If you can afford to spend 30,000 on a car there shouldn't be a questiuon to what you are going to buy. The power of a sports car the elegance of a luxury car all wrapped up in 1 !!!!!!

Nothing compares to these cars!!! Everything else is missing something..
The only thing that comes close is the Chrysler 300m, But if you read my review on the Chrysler cirrus you would know that there service department sucks and I wouldn't recommend a Chrysler unless you are a mechanic or you know a good one!!!

Strength:

Flawless assembly, fit and finish. Very quiet, and one notices this most dramatically when trucks pass–cannot hear the roar they make. Very pleasant interior design and color scheme. Analogue clock a classy touch.

By far, the best value for the entry level luxury class: memory seats, motorized rear sunshade, heated seats, traction control, both front seats powered, automatic air, home-link controls, leather and automatic sliding driver seat to facilitate entry and egress, to mention a few. ABS brakes are excellent, perfectly modulated. Steering has variable assist--not too light as in Lexus and Camry. Nearly everything standard; the only options are heated seats, traction control, navigation system, communication system and Xenon lights. Very good sound system–music is crystal clear. Infiniti dealership was very pleasant--no pressure, no haughtiness. Salesman knew the product fully and I didn't have to dicker over price–they offered invoice plus 3%, which is fair (I went in at the end of the month, January). Head room good even with sunroof–I am 6 feet. This is a problem on the Lexus and Acura. This car is currently rated as the most reliable by the major consumer magazine–better than the ES 300. Gas mileage best in this class. Best warranty also.

Weakness:

No real complaints, but there are a few things Nissan could do to improve its market share, since its competition isn't standing still. The following would have made I30 a nearly perfect car for me.

First, my previous vehicle was a Concorde, which doesn't compare in quality, but Chrysler added some toys that I very much miss: a trip computer that integrates the compass and outside temperature, plus the other functions; rear reading lamps, dual maps lights up front, automatically locking doors at 15 mph and more adjustable sound controls.

A good sound system is critical for me since frankly this is about the only time I have to listen to my classical CD's. The sensitivity of the Bose tuner in the I 30 is very good and the integrated antennas work well, but the Bose speakers overly emphasize the bass (a common problem with Bose) and are very bright. By adjusting to a flatter response, but with only two tone controls available (treble and bass), one loses some of the mid-range, where most of the music is, especially in classical music. I'm guessing that rock fans aren't very interested in this car, so Nissan and Bose need to make a change to appeal to a more discriminating clientele. At a minimum, there needs to be a four or five band sliding equalizer on the receiver (not electronic–too hard and too slow to adjust and also requires taking eyes off the road) and a center dash speaker like the Infinity system in Chrysler products, which does wonders for presence and for a full sound. The steering column controls should be lighted.

Next, the OEM tires were Goodyear RS-A's. They have terrible reviews in the tire section of this site, and I noticed that the steering response wasn't great with them. I changed those to Michelin X-One's, and the steering response now is very precise. No under nor over-steer–drives like a sports car even though not designed as such (this is the Luxury model).
I would have purchased stability control had it been offered as an option. The interior lights should be brighter, and I suggest dropping the dome light in favor of individual rear lights and two individual map lights up front. Rear head room for a six footer barely adequate in rear seat when sunshade is up.

Since the "econ" setting on the climate controls is for heat only, things would be clearer if it were so labeled. A knob instead of a two directional push fan control is much easier to use, and can be operated by feel. The current switch requires one to take his eyes off the road.
Others have commented that sunlight on the instrument display washes everything out–this needs a different polymer that doesn't refract direct sunlight.

Nissan has a winner here. I recommend it without hesitation– it is priced right and has nearly all the options included in the base price. Clearly the best value in its class. It is unsurpassed in reliability and if Nissan makes improvements and keeps the price as competitive as it is, this will prove to be a successful line for them.

I tested a used (1998) ES 300 (the new ones are overpriced) and a new Acura TL. Both too cramped, head room a problem and both had more wind noise than the Infiniti. The current Avalon is highly rated too, but to me is one of the strangest looking cars on the road, is overpriced, and so I didn't test it.

Strength:

Beautiful car. As the poster below mentioned people have really commented on this one. The Xenon lights and fogged-headlight treatment really give this car an upscale look. The Nav system that rises out of the dash is EXCELLENT.

Weakness:

Wish the background of the Nav view wasn't white. Not easy on the eyes during the day.

We truly love this car. The original color combination we wanted wasn't available so we placed the order and waited a short while for it to be shipped from overseas. Some reviews complained about the "harsh ride" of the Touring model, but we don't have any complaints. With the new Q45 coming out next month, I think Infiniti will be poised to take Lexus head-on.

Similar Products Used:

Test-drove an Acura TL. The Acura TL felt a little bit more powerful, but I still had to mash the pedal down and I don't think I'll be doing too much stop-light drag-racing anyway. If you floor the accelerator in the I30 while cruising at 55mph, you are pretty much mashed against your seat as it is. Also, Acura doesn't roll off the tongue like "Infiniti". Their flagship Acura RL has a V6 in it?!!

Strength:

Best looks , superb sound system , and has got the cutting edge performance to match it's mind-blowing looks .

Weakness:

Rear doesn't look as good as the front , gear changes not as smooth and doesn't catch speed too quickly .

The car is quiet good once you get used to it . Although it has some short comings , like not enough rear seat legroom , it makes up for it with good looks , an excellant engine and breathtaking performance . Tyres are a bit too small , but doesn't have a bad grip on the road . The CD stacker comes in handy during long trips and seats are just fine .

Can blow away any car in it's class ! I compared it with the Lexus ES300 and it is good in every respect , except the gear changes .

Strength:

i think that the best qualities of this car are the awesome stereo system, the cool looking touring package and the comfy, yet supportivfe seats. you cant go wrong with a 6 year 60,000 mile warranty can you?

Weakness:

the worst qualities are when sitting in the back seat u can hear the sounds of the road and it feels like there is a leak in the door. it is also a hard time for me to get in it without having to crane my neck and i am 6'3.

overall i have had a very fuin time with my car. it is luxourious and has a little bit of pep in it! it is sport, elegant, tasetful, and luxourious. i like it very much and although it is no sportscar compared to my ferrari's, vipers, lamborghini's, etc., i enjoy to drive this car. it is very comfortable, safe, and reliable. i love the 3.0 liter engine and the 230 horsepower, but its front wheel drive and a 4 speed auto trannie which is kinda slow and it doesnt feel like all of that power is gettin to the road. while on the interstat goin to work i laugh at other cars that try to keep up with me as the top end acceleration of this carf is very quick. still not no 911 turbo, but pretty quick for a $35,000 sport/luxury sedan. this car can do it all and i love it. seeing as i am an exotic car collector/enthusiast, that was all i have had. i recently found out that my wife was pregnant with twins, and i needed a new sedan that was sporty, and yet luxurious enough for my wife to drive. all i am saying is that if you want an awesome car with a great warranty, look no further thatn the infinity 130t.

Strength:

Handles like a dream. Bose stereo is incredible. With cruise control taken off, that V6 really does offer pick up. Suspension takes virtually every bump and makes it feel like fresh pavement. Great breaking power. The customer support with Infinitis in general, I have found, is top notch. Even with the bottom of the barrel model, the G20, I have gotten great service.

Weakness:

With cruise control turned on, I feel like I'm sitting there no matter how hard I press the gas. I have owned a Honda Prelude and a G20 and none of those cars have ever had anywhere near the dents, scratches, and scrapes that the I30 has gotten so far. Must be the bulky body, I dunno...
I wish the front passenger seat was as adjustable as the driver's seat.
While pushing the knob foward for the seat to go up, sometimes the seat belt gets caught behind the knob preventing it from going back in position. Damn near killed me!

If you are looking for performance, look around a little more. If you want a reliable car with all the luxuries of cars twice as expensive and great customer service, then you might like this car.
