Chrysler 300M Luxury

Chrysler 300M Luxury

DESCRIPTION

Chrysler launched the completely new, sport-oriented 300M in 1999. The 300M used the same front-drive chassis as the Concorde/Intrepid, but had distinct styling and a shorter body. Power was supplied by a 3.5L 253-horsepower V6 engine and 4-speed automatic transmission, though the 300M was fitted with Chrysler's AutoStick automatic, which permits manually-selected gear changes using a separate shift gate. The 300M distinguished itself with 17-inch wheels and a sport-tuned suspension and steering settings. The Performance Handling option gave the 300M more aggressive 16-inch rubber. The 300M is a 5-passenger sedan with leather upholstery and heated front seats standard.

Strength:

Great looks, power, and many standard features leads the list of positives. Have optional sunroof and no problem with headroom.

Weakness:

Could be more quiet on the road. My 1999 Honda Accord is quieter.

I would recommend this car. Would be great in a 2-door coupe.

Strength:

Great handling, great looks, decent mileage lots to like.

Weakness:

I just saw the kelley blue book and got very sick

I have had this car for 1 1/2 years and truly enjoyed what the car offered in value compared with anything near this price at the time of purchase. The only complaint I have had was tonight when I looked at the Kelly bluebook and saw what the value of the car has dropped to. This car lost more in 18 months than my lexus did in 4 years.

Strength:

Exterior styling, engine power, comfortable interior, plenty of trunk space, and overall handling. Gas mileage reasonable for a car its size.

Weakness:

Wish the back seat armrest had cup holders for my kids; however, I noticed they have added this item on the 2000's. The power windows on the driver and passanger side have gone out and the shift linkage needed repair; however, that has been the only problems in 22K miles.

At the time of purchase, I considered the Acura TL, Lexus ES 300, Volvo S70; however, I felt the 300M offered more interior space (for two growing kids) and better performance for the price. Another deciding factor was styling that makes it stand out from the crowd. Only wish I had opted for the polished aluminum wheels and a color other than black. Black looks great right after the car has been washed; but, it begins to look dirty after a few days. Overall, I have been very pleased with the 300M.

Power, handling, sound system, interior, everything....

cd player continues to break

Alot of things drove me to this car. Having owned mercedes for the past 12 years, when it was time (hit 175K miles on the last one), I went back to the MB showroom and almost passed out from the prices. BMW was even worse, as their cars require constant maintenance, loved the volvo s80 but it was expensive, especially for the turbo. The A6 is really nice, but small, and the passat was nice but small too, as well as being too spartan.

There was nothing left but this car. I test drove them all, and dollar for dollar, this one was a fantastic value. I have had it for 7 months now, and after the initial mercedes withdrawal, I have grown to love it. Everyting works really well, from the seat heaters, to the climate control, to the stereo (infinity is worth the extra money). I got the "european handling package" which has turned out to be fantastic. As far as overall system dynamics (I drive briskly, you need to to stay alive in New Jersey) this car keeps giving, with no surprises ever.

It is fast, comfortable, smooth, quiet and just plain nice. People who are emotionally attached to expensive european cars like I used to be, get into this car and comment on how nice it is. This car is a winner.

Also have a Durango, which has performed flawlessley for 2 and a half years. The 300M has had NO quality problems other than the CD player dying a couple of times, for which I sort of don't fault chrysler, but rather the supplier of the CD player.

If you view this car as a consumer product, and remove misinformation about passenger cars and peoples emotional attachment to specific brands, this car is successfully competitive with cars costing twice as much. No, it is not built like a mercedes, but newer mercedes are no longer built like mercedes of yor. Personally, I am not a fan of Japanese cars, finding them odorless, colorless and tastless. To me as least, they have no personality, no presence, no desire. The ones that I have owned have passeed into memory. I always gravitate to German cars for what they offer. The 300M is the first non german german car that I have found.

This is an awesome automobile. It has plenty of room for my golfing buddies and their clubs. It drives and handles exceptionally well. It has plenty of power. The interior is
very plush and pleasing to the eyes. The Infinity stereo will blow you away. The car is in a bright platinum finish with 17" chrome wheels. People stare when I have it cleaned at a local car wash. When I stop to put gas in it, people ask me about it and invariably will say:"that is the best looking car I have ever seen." My wife loves it, its really her car. I had it serviced for the first time a week ago. 5000 mile oil change. Its a keeper.

Weakness:

Because it is a new model, there is no track record for dependability.

$31,234.00. Not many extras to add to this baby. It pretty much comes fully loaded. The options we added: chrome wheels, Infinity 11 speaker stereo with cd changer, and moonroof. We looked at the 2000 Maxima but it was too much like the 1995. We looked at the Lexus ES300 (one of my golfing buddies has one) but we wanted a larger car and we wanted to be able to have it serviced locally.

Strength:

Looks, interior roominess, trunk room. A very nice family car when everything works. The drive was great for the first month!

Weakness:

I've had a multitude of problems with this car since purchasing it in August of 1998. The major problem has been a shimmy or wobble with the car, especially at 40 mph and 60 mph. When I hit(or even tap)the brake to slow down from 60 mph, the steering wheel starts to wobble wildly. I am on my fourth set of tires! With each succeeding set, the problem abates for a while, then returns. The dealer has been great about working on the problems, but I've never devoted so much of my life to any car I've owned! I've also encountered a myriad of other problems, such as: noisy clock, rubber gasket keeps falling off around rear doors, driver power window motor went bad twice, both front axles replaced, bad glove compartment lock, a disgusting smell infiltrates the car when the heater is turned on, deck lid hitting the bumper, keyless remotes inoperable many times, inoperable lighter, air conditioning leak, air body controller, front sway bar went bad, rear door lock inoperable, and dash lights go out intermittently.

I have a friend who bought a 1999 300M that works like a dream! I just wish mine did. I've filed for arbitration with Chrysler and am hoping for a fair deal from them. I'd really love to own a 300M that only needed routine maintenance!!!

Strength:

1999 Motor Trend's Car of the Year, now with all improvements added.
Infinity II Sound System
Handling
Smooth Acceleration
Style of a coupe in a sedan
Solid feel
New jewel taillamps and twin chrome exhaust veer to the sports side
Interior design is a balance between luxury and sports--uniquely 300M!

Weakness:

Shut off engine, power cut to windows/radio
Shifter is no longer chrome, because of Chrysler budget cut
Lumbar support should be powered and lower
Add side directionals on mirrors

This car rocks! For the price, nothing even comes close. With the PHP package, Infinity II sound system, and luxury package on this car the other cars should pack up and leave town! The ride is not jolting, just a little more feel for the road, like being cushioned in rubber. The steering wheel has some effort needed, but only makes this car more fun to drive. The 360 watt sound system is smooth and rich--coming out of 11 speakers you can not enjoy a sound experience better elsewhere. The real California Walnut Wood sets this car in the Jaguar class. Style is evident thoughout the interior--everything is tight as a drum--with the mint-colored, glow-in-the-dark dashboard circles and a clock that looks like an art deco masterpiece. Sound quality is very quiet. And with the huge moonroof open, it's the next best thing to a convertible! The horsepower is so smooth, it is like launching a rocket on gliding monorail. For a sedan, the look of the car is like the swoop of a coupe and with the back seats down, you have a mini-SUV. Drive this car and you will make up your mind fast. Several others may be a bit faster, but their styling is prehistoric. Go with a complete package and you won't regret it. This is the whole enchilada!

I read everything. Looked inside of Bonneville, Acura 3.2, Lincoln LS--nothing seemed to have the full package as the 300M. Went to the auto show and stuck my head into everything. BMW has a great rep, but the interior looked like a 1968 Pinto! Believe me, I researched this forever and this is the one! Pay $50,000 for a name or $32,000 and have a great car.

Strength:

I thought it had a lot of strengths at first, now I am not impressed. I wished I had never purchased the vehicle.

Weakness:

Consumers be aware! I had my car in several times for repairs. Rear window motors wouldn't work. Lights flashing from dim to bright. The odometer sticks at 0. A vibration in the motor (So we thought). Transmission shifting hard. The only thing that has been fixed was the rear window motors (has been fixed twice) and the odometer. Every time the local Chrylser service department couldn't find anything wrong. Well, here is the rest of the story. The vibration of the motor is actually the transmission. After 600 miles over the warranty our transmission went out. The transmission is stuck in 2nd gear. Now, I am facing a huge repair bill for the new transmission. This is the first Chrylser product that I have purchased. Chrysler has lost a customer here. I will go back to Mazda or Mitibushi (never had any problems with these vehicles).

Consumers be aware!!!!

You may be purchasing a lemon! The 300M may have problems that don't surface until warranty runs out or service department won't fix until warranty runs out.

Fell in love with the vehicle at first. Everybody expresses how nice the car is. I now wish they owned it. Loved the features that came with the car. Did research on the vehicle before buying. No problems were detected. Was rated very high. I have had nothing but problems, must have purchased a lemon. First Chrysler that I have ever owned. Chrysler has lost a customer here.

I would compare it to a Ford (found on the road dead). This car has not performed to any other vehicles that I have owned except for a ford. You may experience several repair bills with this car.
