None, maby gass but its a 66 i cant complain

In the last year I have had the privlidge of owning a Cadillac. Im blown away at the style and gestures, of the lines in the body. Comfort, Stile, Love, Sex, Class, and the good ole American way. You cant beat a Cadillac. I was also impressed by all of the little features sush as high beam sencors, (I dont have to touch the high beam leaver, it sees another car comming and dims the lights itself) For a 1966 thats pretty impressive, along with the power windows, power seats, climate controle, power sterring etc.

A wonderful engine that got 18 mpg in the city and 23mpg on the road. Really moves out when you need it. Good clean interior layout makes the Mercedes look like something from the 50s. Understated enterior with very good fit and finish and decent paint job. GM has come a long way with this car and you can actually see the improvements in quality from what they used to produce but still have a long way to go to catch Lexus.

Weakness:

The major weakness with this car is the front wheel drive with such a heavy engine. It just can't help bob up and down trying to control all that weight and then scrap the bottom of the front end on some driveways and bad bumps. Although I tested the car when I first bought it, I could never quite get used to the hard uncomfortable leather seats especially on a trip. You think GM could make a seat buckle that is easy to use. Small inconviences but very anoying none the less. The car maybe the ideal size but difficult to enter and exit especially the back seats. You could never take 5 very far in this car. Last but the most troubling is the residual value after 3 years, 39%. That alone tells you that this car is way overpriced. Add that with the less than great dealership experience and you're left with the that wonderful GM feeling that can only cause you to go elsewhere.

Overall a very good car that is overpriced and lacking in dealership support to make it a real luxury or enjoyable experience. The design and build quality appear to be very good ( at least the first 22K miles), but the residual value leads me to believe no one else does. Let me put it another way, this is probably the best 35K car you can buy new. It just happens to cost much more and you are always left with the question, why did I do that?

Similar Products Used:

Actually the new Olds Aurora Northstar six is a better car for front wheel drive because the engine is much lighter and therefore handles better. Lexus has a much better deadership network and much better residuals on their cars. Look there.

Amazingly responsive for such a large car. The interior is very comfortable and quiet whether riding in the front or back seats. I was impressed to find out that the traction control system really works! Coming off a bridge during a heavy downpour I hit a large sheet of water. The car hydroplaned for a split second. As quickly as I realized that I was in trouble the traction control kicked in (the system info panel lit up to say so) and I could actually feel the car suddenly grab traction as fast as I had lost it. Needless to say my wife was very impressed and I was quite relieved. Not long after I bought the car I had an accident with a delivery van. I was stopped at a red light and the delivery van was ahead of me. A car wanted to make a left turn in front of the van and the van driver backed up right into me. I was hit fairly hard. I took the car to a respected body shop and found that the only repair required to put everything back to normal was that the passenger side bumper shock absorber needed to be replaced. The repair was approximately $200 for both parts and labor. I had anticipated much worse and was really pleased at how well the bumper had done its job without causing any body damage. I purchased this car used with 60K+ miles on it and today it has nearly 80K miles. Aside from the minor accident, I have only had to replace a couple of signal lights, the battery, front brake pads, and tires. Typical maintenance stuff for a 4 year old car. At 65K I still had about 75% life remaining on my rear brakes! Also, while not an overly thrilling feature, I was surprised at how easy it was to replace bulbs. The entire lighting assembly detaches from the car (both front and rear turn signals) so you don't have to fight with tight spaces to change the bulbs. Gas mileage was a lot better than I expected especially since I like to take advantage of the 275hp. I average no less than 17.5 mpg city and an amazing 28 mpg highway with the a/c on full blast the whole time.

Weakness:

I like this car so much I hate to give any negative feedback about it. However, no car is perfect and so too this one has its flaws.... To start off, the exhaust hangs too low and is unattractive from behind. Cadillac decided to paint the exhaust black on the 1996 model which helps a little but its still an eye sore to me. The interior temperature sensor is visible just below the top of the dashboard and at first it appears to be a defect in how the dash was put together. Rear visibility is somewhat obstructed by large rear pillars making it hard to achieve safe lane changes. Although you can barely tell the engine is running when you are inside the vehicle, when you are on the outside I think there is a lot of engine noise especially when the air conditioner compressor turns on and off. There is another car just like mine where I work and I noticed the same engine noise from that car so I assume that this is typical for this model year. Some of the plastic radio knobs have developed hairline cracks in them. One of the cracks was bad enough that a small piece of the knob broke off. Its not very noticeable but I think a 4 year old luxury car should not have such problems. Scanning through radio stations when traveling is not very easy because the scanning cycles through the channels you already programmed into memory. If you are not in your local area and want to just scan through stations you have to press and hold the seek button everytime you hit a clear station signal and want to go on to the next one.

Overall this has been a great car. The new car feeling hasn't gone away and I find myself still looking for excuses to take a drive around town. I would certainly recommend this car. However, Cadillac redesigned the Seville in 1998 and I would suggest that a used car buyer go for this latest generation instead (1998 - current). From all of the reviews I have read it seems that the Seville has just been getting progressively better and better.

Quite a good car - perhaps not world class.

Strength:

Handles well on the road. Rear wheel drive was fine during Michigan winter. Interior leather and heated seats for everyone. Bose speaker radio.

Weakness:

Storage, cup holders broke within the first year, can't straighten my leg while driving. My windshield wiper are $60 to replace and must come from a Cadillac dealer since they are two different sizes. After two months the car had a short and the lights wouldn't go off. Had to have it towed the next day to the dealer.

I like my Catera but not enough to shell out the $20,000 to buy out my lease. Now I am looking for a Seville or Aurora to replace it. I am 5'9" and can't straighten my leg while I drive which is very uncomfortable on long trip.

Similar Products Used:

Cadillac Seville much larger than the Catera. As far as handling the Catera is tighter and has a more European feel to it.

Tightness, style, paint (upgraded version), strong engine, taught steering, interior build quality, Bose system, ergonomics on the money, 27 mpg fully loaded highway driving, etc. This pony performs with an extremely quiet luxury.

Weakness:

With 20 months of ownership under my belt the only distraction was a rear door which was slightly mis-aligned (trim to trim) prior to purchase. Thought this should have been picked up at assembly or during quality control checks. Fixed with no questions.

Been to the dealer 4 times (scheduled grease, oil and filter maintenance). Not one lick of repair performed in 20 months. Car is extremely tight and quiet (as expected). Dealership is exceptionally clean and accomodating. Thus far, the best car I have ever owned.

Similar Products Used:

Had one significant pre-req for this most recent purchase; the trunk had to accomodate two full sets of golf clubs, plus luggage, etc. Looked at Jaguar S and J Series, Volvo S80, BMW 3 and 5 Series (These are tiny cars!), and Mercedes E3and 4 Series. None fit the bill. The Volvo salesmen argued that all I needed to do was use the trunk pass-thru! The 7 Series Bimmer is a beautifull car, very close in size to the Seville, but I didn't want to spend $65+K. Didn't even look at the Lexus as it's styling is dated and kind of common, i.e. non-descript. Luxury and quality is important, but if it looks like your grandfathers Oldsmobile,,,,,, For you Euro afficianados, try a drive before you buy. You will be pleasently supprised.

nice looking car, comfortable.

Weakness:

Its a grreat looking car when your on the side of the roadd three times in less than 1000 miles. The car was purchased at 39,000 miles. fortunately still under manufacturer warranty. new coolant pump, wind sheild, alternator, battery, engine, brake lenses, brake swithches, computer panel, front suspension, rear suspension, steering whel smoking, computer sensor for crvss suspension system, trunk pull down mechanism. And I am sure more to come.

My family and I stuck on the side of the road three times far from home. rude treatment from cadillac dealership where we bought the LOVELY CAR!!!!!

Weakness are obvious I moved to a small town and within two weeks found two other owners with the same problem that can't seem to be fixed. the suspension!!! when we hit a bump in the road it feels like the car is going out of control and swimg into the other lane. not fun. are there more of you out there?????? I'll keep checking.

I'll not buy another one. I will go back to cars from the sixty's.

Quiet smooth ride with power and performance combined. Fast acceleration. Great gas mileage. 23 city 27 Highway !

Weakness:

Service Engine Soon LIght keeps coming on. Some problems with electrical and power windows. Small crack on wood grain dash. Transmission torque convertor clutch, needed special Friction Additive to transmission.

Overall I love this car. I had purchased it with 46K now have 80K I did have to replace A/C compressor last summer. For the amount of performance, style and function of 4-door vehicle I feel it is a great buy. I have had problem with Service engine soon light, was told 039 error code, torque convertor clutch. Had 2 AAmco transmission shops check it & found nothing. Took to Goodyear and manager called GM and was told a special Friction Additive could be tryed first before expensive replacement of torque convertor. That semed to help for a while but now light is back on. I test drove several other vehicles and cringe thinking of owning anything else. Nothing so far compares. I may just get a newer model. I love the power & control. I guess I'am spoiled after owning this vehicle. Every model has it's quirks. I would recommend this vehicle.

Power, Cornering for the size of the car, hanging with a C6 corvette on the expressway with 5 people in the car. Comfort, nice ride. Etc

Weakness:

Wood dash panal cracked from temp change, mostly nit picky stuff.

Overall this car has been a pleasure to own. Its comfortable, fast and rides smoothly while still able to corner decently for a car that weighs what it does. But I'm selling it for one reason and one reason only. I finnaly learned how to drive stick. My weekend car is a Trans am 6 speed, and now that I am proficiant at manual, automatic drives me crazy. Which is why I'm either going to lease an S4 or buy a Suburu WRX. Depends on how much money i want to spend. Hopefully when the new seville comes out in a few years Caddy will get their heads out of their you know whats and offers a northstar with a 6 speed. THEN you will see me come back to Caddy. Until then I'm only looking at cars that have a manual trans. :)
