Very powerful 275hp V8 Northstar when driven correctly. I get stick shift performance from it when racing; just by raising off the gas a little then mashing back down on it, I can get more acceleration when driving that way.
Weakness:
I hate that the governor it wont let me go any faster than 112 mph. I only lost one race in my Deville in 17mos and that was to a lexus GS 400 Similar Products Used: My dad has a 94 corvette 40th anniversary i drove it once and the take off wasn't too much more impressing than my deville; if not any more impressive at all. Previously drove my uncles Lincoln LS and I wont trade my deville in for nothing but a caddilac. |

This massive 4.9 litre engine might not be the well known northstar engine, but it sure can swing you into the back of your seat when you put the pedal to the metal. The sleek look of this massive car makes it stand out over all the little junky Hondas. The sound of this bad boy will out roar any foriegn cars that pull up next to you at the red light. If its just cruisin around or haveing a nice transprtation to the show, this car is the one to be in.
Weakness:
Luckly I have the warranty, because with my previous 1991 cadillac, the parts for this car can be over wealming. But with the durablility of the car that didnt have to be a problem that much. Not much more to say about the car, just the money that has to be put into it when something goes... My experience with Cadillacs have been terrific, i recomend very few cars over this one. The price isnt too shaby but compared to the $95,000 Benz's, it is worth the few thousand that you put into it over a period of 7-8 years. If you are scared of car accidents, why be stuck in a Volks Wagon? - This huge car will make you feel like you are sitting right in your recliner at home, "untouchable". But i just cant get over the power, have people forgot about this engine after the northstar came out? how much power can the northstar have if this engine lifts the front of my car up like the 4,500 lb car ways a civic. The same engine was in my '91, and that engine pulled that car around like it was a rag doll. People will look at you and frown like the competition was a laugh in they're face. Guess who will be laughin when your powerful V8 left them in the dust? - YOU! I grabbed this car for a great price at 11,000 with almost NO scratches, and only 41k miles. This car is priced to go, what are you waiting for? go get yourself one! Similar Products Used: I will compare to my old 1991 Cadillac Sedan DeVille which also was a great car to me. All the basic parts are the same - just a new body style a miner details and upgrades with new technology. A massive back seating area lets you have the ability to stretch your feet out, unlike an Acura where your knees have to be preeesed up against the back of the driver/front passenger seat. |

Strength:
This is a reliable, dependable, and smooth vehicle. It has a solid feel, the body metal feels substantial, the ride and handling are excellent. Overall finish is superb, and as a package it epitomizes the sobriquet 'Cadillac'.
Weakness:
Since purchase the trip computer has malfunctioned, though the fuel tank guage has been accurate. An ongoing irritation is that the Service Engine Fuel light comes on, which ourlocal mechanic informs me is due to an engine blower, which he has replaced a couple of times, only once at my expense. Neither problem has affected performance. Additional problems have been that the power antenna packed it in --so the antenna is now permanently up-- and the armrest coverings for both front seats have cracked. Finally, I note that the rear bumper ends, which are separate chromed mounts below the lights tend to get bent out of place, as they are bolted to a metal frame behind the bumper. These are all very minor problems, which are more an feature of wear and tear than manufacturer defects. Purchased the Cadillac DeVille in 1998, with 69,000 km. as a second vehicle. We had been looking at two to three year old mid-sized cars, e.g., Ford Taurus, Pontiacs, etc. These cost $14,000 CND, versus this vehicle which cost $9,000. CND. The vehicle now has 103,000 km. The vehicle was in excellent or near perfect condition when purchased. It has a cloth interior, and seating comfort is unbelievable, and has spoiled me so that I no longer enjoy driving anything else. The motor is fantastically smooth, great acceleration, reliable starting even on the coldest eastern Canadian mornings. Handling feels more responsive than other vehicles. The vehicle had no rust when purchased, and we have had it protected with Rust Check every year since purchase, so there is still no rust despite heavy salt on winter roads. Finally, I must add that the owning a Cadillac is a hoot. When my wife and I go out to a play or for supper we feel as though we are riding in a limosine. Friends and family chide me and I take a great deal of teasing for driving such a 'luxurious' vehicle. But in the end I tell them that my car most likely cost far less than than their new Honda Civic, or Hyundi. Similar Products Used: None. I have been driving various mini-vans as the family vehicle. |

The ride is unbeatable by anything put out today and they have unbelievabily comfortable seats. Great motor, sounds nice, fast for a car that weighs 5000lbs, 4 12v plugins/lighters, roomy interior, fast power windows, trunk big enough 2 hold anything, can be found for cheap found in old people's back yards, It will make a great demo car, i would put some money into it but i already have 3 other cars to fool around with.
Weakness:
Rust City USA after 130,000 miles of minnesota salt, 10-12mpg (not to practicle with todays gas prices), kind of hard to park unless you are used to driving big cars, cruise control setup kindof sucks 1976 Cadillac DeVille Similar Products Used: 81 monte carlo....ride not as good, power sucks from 3.8 v6, 3.1 lumina, 3.5 intrepid |

AC problems Excellent car, powerfulfull, great ride. Only problem so far has been rear shocks leaking and need to be replaced, at over 1000 thousand miles. I changed the plugs myself this time. I recommend having a mech. change them just because of the difficulty. Maybe if I had the right tools. Similar Products Used: None |

touch screen my first impression of the deville was that i thought it looked like a mercedes but that soon changed. i own the cadillac dts. cadillac continues to have those infamous vertical slit rear lights that reflect the fin era, you wouldnt think it was a cadillac it looks more muscular for the new millenium leaving that old luxo barge look in the 1990s. cadillac truly hit the nail on the head with this car it handles great with less roll and has a more firm feel to it. the interior is absoleutely perfect, beautiful leather trim clean and smooth, ultra comfortable seats, and that zebrano wood trim looks absoleutley gorgeous. as for the engine, it never ceases to impress, using northstar technology it delivers the power when u want it. the only downer to this magnificent car was the braking i noticed that the brakes are not as responsive as i expected. oh yeah and i thought that the night vision although very handy was a bit of a gimmick. this car is definetly the cream of luxury and i am very confident that the deville has the potential to be up there with the best europe has to offer. Similar Products Used: i have test driven the lincoln town car and i can truly say that it cannot compare to the deville |

I love the new body style its really a sheak look, the 32v northsatr provides great pick up when you need it. It has an almost float like ride that can be compared only to an airplane. Has great leg room for us 6ft and over people. An all around great luxury car. My cadillac emblem on the hood seems to guide me down the highway.
Weakness:
WELL ALTHOUGH THERE are very few weaknesses, as another person stated it is still an american car. i had to take it back the next week because it just cut off in the middle of traffic and wouldn't start back for about 15 minutes. i was told it needed 2 cranking sensors, that were bad from manufacturing, how that slipped through the cracks i will never know. haven't had any problems since... No front cup holders, I guess we are not supposed to be drinking in it.LOL I also prefer bigger tires from the factory 17" instead of 16". Over the deville has been a great car. a good overall experience. Similar Products Used: I've driven the lincoln town car also. It too is an excellent luxury car, but to me the cadillac sybol stands alone. |

6 passenger full size interior on the inside YET, outside was similar in length to a mid size. Very Creative engineering to accomplish this. Nice interior trim. Comfortable seats. overall a nice car. Try to get the later model years. In 1988 they had the better engine "4.5". In 1989 the car increased in length considerably which increased leg room, trunk space, and ride quality. In 1991-93 the 4.9 was introduce"Great motor", also the body was really defined, best looking out of the other years.
Weakness:
Arm rests will crack in these models (85-93 deville). Trouble with the 4.1 liter V8(85-87) 4.5 liter V8 is better(88-90) 4.9 is superb(91-93) Front brakes will wear excessively on all these year models(85-93) alternators were not the best. General Motors created a car that was well ahead of its time. In the year 1985 This caddy (as well as some other GM full size cars) rode on a chasis that was only about 200 inches long (similar to a modern Buick LeSabre). Yet, this car had the capability to fit 6 passengers. Typically during this time full size cars were still laden with chrome, and at least 220 inches in length. Cadillac however created the all new deville for 85. This car featured a 4.1 liter V8, six passenger capability, a whole host of power options, and an overall comfortable roomy interior. Similar Products Used: I have owned many, many GM products- Cadillacs, Buicks, Olds. This body style is well laid out. Nicely designed. I would suggest the deville, but try to get the later years of the body style(91-93) |
