NICE RIDE AND HANDLES WELL. NORTH STAR ENGINE IS AN OIL BURNER. CADILLAC STATES IT IS NOT UNCOMON FOR A NORTHSTAR ENGINE TO USE A QUART OF OIL EVERY 1000 MILES. OTHER ELECTRICAL PROBLEMS THAT SHOULD NOT HAPPEN AT THIS PRICE RANGE. Similar Products Used: THRID CADILLAC I HAVE OWNED BUT FIRST AND LAST NORTHSTAR ENGINE. |

Strength:
Smooth ride, good gas mileage.
Weakness:
Electrical problems; lights seem to want to work in "reverse". That is, when the switch in on, the lights are off and vice versa. This also affects the rear lights. Check engine light comes on at will. This Caddy is the nicest car I've ever bought! OnStar is always there to help me find a new address, etc. |

Strength:
Ergonomically friendly; everything within easy reach, a stiff but not harsh ride. I wanted an Eldorado, but this is pretty close.
Weakness:
A little "cheap" here and there: tie downs in truck plastic which break easily. Not much else to say at this point; only put 1000 miles on it over 5 months. The engineers finally are earning thier money! This automobile is by far the nicest Caddy I've had in a while. Totally re-engineered, tight, quiet, good fit and finish. White diamond pearl killer paint. Similar Products Used: 1958 ragtop, 1964, 1987, 1994 sedan de villes. |

Strength:
On the highway it cruises like a champ. The spacious interior can make a tall person feel very comfortable.
Weakness:
Electrical problems on the dash. The electronic speedometer pops on and off when it wants to and so does the "check engine light." I have had this car for one week and I have already taken it back to the dealer twice. The "Check Engine light" comes on whenever it feels like it and there is a little "putput" to the ride when cruising at slow speeds. Similar Products Used: 1990 oldsmobile 98 Regency. I still have this car and it rides just as good as the lack and I dont have any problems with it. |

Considering the weight and 275 horsepower, fuel economy is usbeatable. I've gotten better than 30mpg on the interstate, 29 with 2 passengers and a trunk full of luggage. Plenty of excelleration for merging onto the highway and then some. Very comfortable and very quiet. Almost no engine noise except under full throttle. Good lines and good looks.
Weakness:
Front wheel drive. I can't wait until they return to a rear drive platform. I have always driven Cadillacs, my first being a 1963 Coupe deVille. My 2001 deVille is the natural successor to a great line of automobile. Good styling, wonderful performance and as much technology as they can squeeze into any car. |

Great Ride Comfort and space Lot's of "bells and whistles"...the car does everything itself, from turning on the lights, to warning me of icy conditions. Great Sound System Big Trunk space Lots of Power
Weakness:
I really can't think of any. I have had this car for about 15 months, and have enjoyed it in every way. Got the base model Deville, with the Moonstone paint. Nice beige leather interior, and WHAT A RIDE! This is my first Cadillac, but it will definately NOT be my last. Although I have read some bad reviews on these cars, other than normal wear and tear, I have found this car to be GREAT! I particularly love the ride. I spend alot of time on the road, and this car handles, drives, and rides like a dream. There is plenty of power, and I am pleased with the fuel mileage, in view of the fact that it is a big V-8 Similar Products Used: I have owned all kinds of cars; truthfully eveything you can imagine, but this is my favorite. |

ON-STAR (IF I STILL HAD IT) BUT IT WAS TAKEN OUT TO CURE THE STEREO PROBLEM (BUT, IT DIDN'T, THEN WANTED ME TO PAY TO HAVE THEM PUT IT BACK IN) OOPS, THIS IS A WEAKNESS OF THE DEALERSHIP, SORRY!
Weakness:
BRAKES THAT RUMBLE & SQUEAL, BRAKES THAT DON'T STOP WHEN APROACHING A STOP SIGN AT THE BOTTOM OF HILL ON A WET ROAD, AFTER SITTING FOR 8-12 HOURS WHEN STARTED IT SOUNDS LIKE IT HAS NO OIL RUNNING THRU IT'S SYSTEM, THE RIDE IS CHOPPY & DOES NOT FLOAT, LEG ROOM IS LESS IN FRONT & REAR, NO TRUNK LIGHT ON THE TRUNK BUT UNDER THE PACKAGE TRAY (DOES ABSOLUTELY NO GOOD), MY FRIENDS TEASE ME ABOUT MY "SMYPATHETIC" STEREO (BRAND SAYS IT'S A SYMPHONIC). I OWNED 6 CADILLACS IN THE PAST 8 YEARS & THIS 1997 BY FAR IS THE WORST. MY 1991 SEDAN WAS THE BEST BUT IT WAS TOTALLED IN AN ACCIDENT. IT HAD MORE ROOM (LEG & HEAD, BACK SEAT & FRONT SEAT), IT DROVE EASIER, ROAD BETTER AND HAD LESS PROBLEMS. I REALIZE, NOW, THAT THE LOOK OF THIS '97 IS THAT IT BELONGS TO A BLUE HAIR (THEY'RE THE ONLY ONES TO COMMENT ON HOW BEAUTIFUL THE CAR IS) |
