Looks nice

Weakness:

Everything but the looks!!!!!!!!!

My husband bought me the Catera for Christmas 3 Years ago. I was so happy! The car only had 14000 miles on it. Three months after that everything started going wrong. We have to get new tires every 10 to 12 months and we put new brakes on less than a year ago and we need to put them on again. The driver side heated seat burned through the leather seat and burning my coat also! This car is a nightmare and I would not sell it to my worst enemy! The dealership knows us by our voice over the phone because we are in there and calling so much. We are now selling it and we will never ever buy another Cadillac again.

Strength:

Excellent look, hugged road very well, drove like a charm (when it drove) and stereo system rocked. Had the nicest looking dashboard as well.

Weakness:

Car problems. Heavy car, went thru tires quickly, no room in the console, glove box very small..and the engine problem was the most distressful.

I purchased this vehicle with ALL the recalls handled by the original owner. It had ONLY 30k miles on it and I placed an addtional 40k miles on it only 2 years later. In other words I did not drive it much and the original owner took very good care of it. However, the Check Engine Light played tricks on me, and eventually one day the radiator overheated on the freeway and after I took it into the dealership I was told that it was going to cost me over 4 grand to get the engine repaired (they claim the head gaskets blew and needed new manifolds, etc. etc.). I can't believe I didn't even get the vehicle past 75k miles before it had major issues. I am sooooo tired of GM/Chevrolet/Cadillac (American Made) motors...what poor workmanship is put into our cars..sheesh..time to go back to foreign made quality vehicles (and I really hate to say this).

Strength:

Nice interior, beautiful rims, leather, Bose, heated seats, wood grain, great truck space and passanger space as well.

Weakness:

HAHA. This must be a joke

This automobile is terrible. If you enjoy transmission problems, battery problems, heated seats shorting out, recalls and check engine lights you have found the car for you! Never again will I purchase another Catera. I have had owned this vehicle for over a year and a half and it is up to 65,000 miles and falling apart. If I see that check engine light on one more time I swear I will pull my hair out. The wonderful Cadillac dealership plays the, "Umm, sorry to hear your problems, we have no solution at the moment. Bring your car back next week." Do that crap for 2 months once a week and we'll see how happy you are with this purchase. I am very dissaointed with this poor Cadillac product. If anyone could aid me in my problems I would appreciate it! seyfriem@purdue.edu I am going back to my BMW

Strength:

Hugs the Road, decent mileage, but small tank, heavy car, looks awesome, easy maintenance, no high perfomance demands, Truck is large, seat fold down flat for suv type cargo, ladders, luggage, etc. pleanty of room, back seat very spacious and comfortable, great stereo & speakers, comfortable on long drives too.

Weakness:

Inside cargo - not a lot of room for stuff, console area it pretty much useless, but keeps you from leaving a bunch of crap in your car too, so it's a matter of perspective, keyless remote only works at close distance

2000 & 2001 Catera's are the only Catera's you should consider buying, 1997 & 1998 are real lemon's, made adjustments in 1999 and fixed all known flaws in 2000 Not many 2001's exist, the last model is 2001, but I love the 2000 catera, no other in comparison

NONe

THis is the BIGGEST piece of CRAP car. If you buy one, expect it to break down regularly and bend over and grap you ankles because you are gonna take it up the $%& on repair. OH and since the parts for the car are not regularly carried at auto parts stores, whip out the CC for a rental for several days until you can get the piece of crap back

Strength:

It's a nice looking that cruises like a gem at 65 or 70mph. Has every option a person could ask for; eventhough only half of them work.

Weakness:

You need to own seven of them if you want to drive every day... If you get what I'm saying.

I purchased this car in october of 2002. So far I have replaced the rear end and the transmission. I have also burned two sets of tires. Currently I am dealing with a driver seat that will not heat up and alarm keypads that refuse to work. Including other abnormal problems, I have invested about $4500 in a car I paid $12500 for. I cannot believe Cadillac even made a newer version-CTS Catera Touring Sedan. They should be sued.
