Strength:
Looks, engine is good sized, bang for your buck
Weakness:
People thinking it's not a Cadi...which it is... I inherited this car from my grandfather when he passed away. It had 55k on it, now has 57k. I have not put too much money into it in repairs, rather extra things to make it look nice. It drives awesome. I added a custom bolt on turbo kit so I can easily burn any standard cars. I added 35% tint all around and some new halogen bulbs. I plan on blacking out the car with a body kit, black paint, and some black wheels. If you're looking for a slick and quick/fast ride that's easily upgradeable, I cannot stress enough the value in purchasing this car. |

Strength:
Interior fit and finish. Numerous luxury features.
Weakness:
Glove box too small. Cupholders not convenient and gas mileage is not what you would hope for when driving around town. Purchased the Catera new. Had driven it as an Opel in Germany back in 1994. I think it was an excellent value even when new. Has not been totally trouble free, but it is a machine and machines do breakdown from time to time. I have 56,000 miles on it and have replaced the brakes twice (mostly city driving) and the battery once. Other than that just a few minor repairs. The car currently has a trade in value of a little over $3K. Would never give it up for that amount. I think the poor resale value makes well maintained Catera's a real steal. |

Exterior & interior design, leather. Smooth ride, Price is right
Weakness:
City gas mileage lacking. Highway gas 25-26 mph on V6 engine 200HP. Need access to good mechanic for repairs when necessary. This goes for any car though. Drove back to big H from Ft L.1200 miles smooth as silk accept for dr. side window problem fix at home. AC leaked out, fixed with hose replacement. Radiator dev. a leak, replaced OK.Now PURRS.. Market price on Catera makes it a deal. Found local shop run by Chinaman & Jap who are the best I ever seen.Excellent problem solvers w/o BS.The car drives better than my new Toyota Camry which stalls when u give it gas.Back to Catera as u can find good parts deals on Ebay vs Cadillac. Some fixes or very simple. This is a very attractive luxuary car, excellent interior design.Made in Germany and drives like sport lux. class.Great bang for the buck... |

Strength:
Great all around performance for the money. Beautiful interior.
Weakness:
Gas milage not as good as I hoped in city. Electrical bugs. After 2 years of ownership I can proudly say I love my catera. You can't find another car like it for the price. 200hp DOHC V6, huge 4 wheels disc brakes, OD auto 4 speed, and rear wheel drive make this thing awsome to drive. Smooth as can be at any speed. I've put 31k on her so far without a hitch. Thankfully the harmonic damper recall work was performed before I purchased it. I'm not happy with the trunk release button failure I had, along with a few other electrical problems. The mechanic I brought it to said he couldn't find the problem. But he doesnt work on cadillacs.

Strength:
Good Power, excellent handeling, very smooth. Almost no road noise at high speed. 4 wheel disc brakes with RWD.
Weakness:
Some electrical problems, A couple recalls. I bought this car from the original owner about three years ago with 21k miles on it. Now it's got 82k and still going strong. My total repair cost thus far has been $900 for the expected water bypass valve replacement, a timing belt change, and a couple small electrical problems. I honestly can't understand what all these complaints are about. If you have basic mechanics skills and take good care of your catera you shoudn't have too much trouble. Seriously, one of the complaints is that the car needed new plugs and wires at 134k! I am not saying that the catera doesnt have any flaws, but some of these reviews are getting carried away. Another review makes light of the 02 sensor costing $100 vs. his proir cars $15. That's because the caddy like many new cars has stepped up to a wide band 02 sensor that cost over $100 no matter what car it's in. The Catera is an entry level luxury car. I'm willing to bet that many of these reviews were left by people who's Catera was their first Cadillac and their first luxury car. So heres some news for you newbies out there... Luxury cars, especially Caddy's, cost alot to maintain and repair. That's just the way it is. |

Fastest car I've had the privalage to drive.

No Cup Holders At All!!!
I just bought this car for $4,000. Ealier, I was prepared to buy a 1996 Honda Accord for the same price. My cadilac had 61,000 mi and the Honda had 140,000 mi. I never thought I would find a deal like this. When I first got it, there was a leak in the vaccum valve,... A $600 repair, but my nice and very friendly dealer included the repair price into the price of the purchase so I never paid anymore than $4,000 anyway. But since the rapair, it floats down the road, sounds really good, never had any other problems with it. Plus, I have a 100,000 mile 5 yr Warranty on it with a $100 deductible... So as far as the pricy repairs,... No more than $100 for me!!!

From what I read, everything Ok, seriously. I’m sick to my stomach after reading these reviews. I have tears in my eyes. I’m a single mother who just co-signed for my daughter to buy this car. She is so happy. She’s worked so hard with school and her job so I agreed to help her. We were going to buy a Saturn ION. This car was parked next to it and she liked it better. I know nothing about Cadillac’s and now I fear that we’re in big trouble. I was curious so I thought I’d do some reading about this car once we got home. I haven’t read one good thing? I guess I’ll have to live with it, there is nothing I can do now. If anything goes wrong with it, we’ll never be able to afford to fix it. The salesman told me that an 80 year old man just turned it in and we got lucky. Well, from what I just read, I think he is the one who got lucky with a sale. I guess it's my fault, I should of never let her get the car before I checked it out. Similar Products Used: we had a chrysler cirrus that we drove into the ground with no serious repairs. |

Strength:
great ride, good price for a cadillac, grips the road for smooth turns, excellent stereo system, good sized trunk for storage
Weakness:
expensive repair/parts bills (if needed) I bought my Catera about a year and a half ago. Right away, it needed a new oxygen sensor, which was covered by the warranty. The only other problem is that the clear coat on the front bumper is starting to flake, which I am told is not abnormal for the weather where I live(although I think it is!). Since the oxygen sensor mess, I've had nothing but good experiences with it. The car gets driven a lot, such as trips from Maryland to Florida. I have put about 30,000 miles on it since I bought it. Currently, the main work that gets done is routine maintenance that you'd have to do for any car with 70,000 miles on it. This is the first higher end car I have owned and I love it! As my friend told me after taking a spin, "It rides like we're driving my living room couch!"

it cuts off I wish i wouldve read these reviews before i purchased, test drove the car around the block purchased it. After i gave them my money and feeled out all of the paper work, i go to leave as a proud owner and the car wouldnt start. It acted as if it was out of gas, so we tried and tried even refueling with gas. So after about an hours of them fooling with it, it started, so as i am on my way home it just cuts off. So what im i going to do now. To keep a long story short i had to get the car towed home and it is still parked, it starts but then it cuts off. The dealer acts as if they dont know me or they are not responsible the car is sold as-is without no warrenty. Please someone help me with this problem where do i begin to start it will cost me another $75 to have it towed to the shop and then $65 hour for them to play with it. What could this problem be i an in desprite need for this car and i am out of money so i cant afford to take it to the shop. Similar Products Used: buy a chevy |
