Strength:

Powerful, sense of luxury, nice styling.

Weakness:

Poor engineering and lack of desire to correct errors. Cold engine wobble. Electronic gremlins (gas cap and trunk release, stereo and clock won't stay set, etc.)

This is my first, and my last, Cadillac. Electronic gremlins and now a "wobble" in the steering, which is more pronounced when the engine is cold. The techs say that they know about the cold wobble and that there isn't anything they can do about it. I am going back to Ford/Lincoln.

Love driving it when it's running. Easy to make into a truck rear seat back down.

Weakness:

Constantly in the shop. They repair the car with the same bad parts it came with in the first place. Brilliant don'tcha think? Had to have it towed many times - a few times for locked ignition. Cadillac dealer doesn't help you out of their bad deal either!

Frustration galore to keep it running. Cadillac dealer won't even discuss a trade-in. Must get extended warranty altho was told none over 70,000 miles available on '97's.

Strength:

17 inch sport rims, Recaro bucket sport seats, aluminum" interior trim, and Xenon headlights on sport models. Bose stereo system is phenomenal. Car is tight as a drum and I never hear a rattle or squeak. Even the Onstar antenna looks sporty located at the midway point on the upper rear window. Overall, a nearly perfect driver's car. Great German luxury!

Weakness:

Reliability. Don't buy one without an extended warranty! The 2000 and 2001's are much more reliable than the 97-99's. I've had to bring my car in for a few things like an oxygen sensor and the front tie rod ends were rusted (car was from Ohio). Gas tank was replaced becaue of a venting problem. History on the car before I owned it showed engine oil cooler replaced twice along with a lot of other small things. Lastly, engine needs about 20-50 more horsepower to be competitive.

I love my 2000 Catera Sport. It is nearly a true European car in every sense of the word. It was very cool to see the Omegas all over Europe during a recent trip to Scandinavia. As for the Catera itself, it hasn't been the most reliable car since I've owned it but I bought it with this in mind. I made sure to get a Cadillac certified warranty thrown in with the car which covers me until 2006 or 100,000 miles. I take my car to Dimmitt Cadillac in Clearwater, FL for all service and they are the best dealership I have ever been at. You get a loaner car with no questions asked, never challenged on warranty work and they even have ice cream, donuts, and a masseuse. I feel like I got a great car for the money ($15,900 with 28K) and I am very pleased with it overall. Only those that know what they are getting into should buy this car. Avoid the 97-99 model years and don't buy this car if you think it's like every other GM because it is not (thank God). Maintenance is of utmost importance and please try not to buy one without an extended warranty, repairs are very expensive! Otherwise, this car gets lots of looks and is beautiful to look at. If you're really seerious about this car I would ONLY recommend the Catera Sport which comes with awesome 17 inch rims and Xenon headlights. This car sticks out in a sea of plain jane BMW's, Mercedes, Acuras, and others.

Good action! Great boise radio. Very dependable.

Weakness:

have nothing to say about weaknesses like I have said nothing but great results with this car!

I had to write as I bought a catera and have had nothing but GREAT results with it. It runs great, rides great and have had NO problems at all. I was surprised to read all the bad reviews on this car. Maybe I was lucky but I LOVE this car. I had owned a Lincoln and a Jeep and this is the nicest best running of them all.

If you get locked out you are in trouble.

Beautiful car with manufacterer defects especailly timing belt. The Cadillac people aware of the problem and gave an extended warranty but would not honor it at the dealership. They Say they repaired it but the engine sounded the same and the rest is history. Cadillace should replace car for owners or give a decent rebate to consumers who have purchased the auto in good faith. Rebate to be used on a better car (Cadillac)

Manufacturer Support, Local dealer support, Reliability, Cheap drink holders, Leaky coolant system, LOW LOW Resale, Auction and trade in value. Doesnt come with AAA membership. Do not drive in snow

Runs great except when it's in the shop. While under pre owned 70k warrenty had valve's re-done, gaskets replaced, coolant leaks fixed 2x plus much much more. Have noticed that you are treated differently depending on which dealership you go to. In Colombia Md they gave us a rent a car (caddy) if the service was more than a day. Now in Salisbury at "Courtesy" Chevy Cdillac they fought us tooth and nail on every leak/malfunction we have ever had. Any back up from the manufacturer when we had to relocate quickly on a job promotion? The parts were due in the day after we moved and covered under one dealership but not at the Dealer in our new town??? What the??kind of service is this. We got blah blah we no help you sukka from the customer noservice dept within caddilac corporate. They marketed to the younger generation and won!! I love this car & wanted to buy an Escalade. Due to reliability and Dealer Support I am now looking at Volvo.Caddy you can kiss my sweet Butt Goodbye

Everything once you turn the car on.

This car is everything I was not expecting. From the time I bought it from my sister to now. I have had nothing but trouble with this car. I have put over $2000 of repairs in this car. It looks great in the driveway but is nothing for reliability or quality. When I bought this car I thought I was getting a superior car, after all it was a Cadillac. I contacted Cadillac to seek assistance but they refused to help. This is my first Cadillac and more than likely my last. You would think Cadillac would be more proactive in taking care of its customers. This car is junk and should be recalled. Cadillac I hope your reading these reviews.

Weakness:

too many to list, we took all of the repair bills with us, didn't want them to know how many problems this car had.

We bought car in early 2000 with 18,000 miles in it, car was sure pretty. After that it was down hill, it was in the shop more than 12 times in the next year, that god we bought extended warrenty, we needed it, what a piece of crap that car was.We were able to keep it going for another 2 years, because we owed to much on it. the tires wore out all the time, it would shut off while driving. WE weren't notified of the recall on this car, well this past May, I was driving down the highway doing 55 and the thing shuts off again, which makes the steering wheel lock, and I can't steer. It went off the road and missed a tree by 2 feet. That was it for us. I could be dead.......We called are cadiliac dealer which towed it, they called and said timing belt broke, and had bent pistons. It was covered under warrenty. As soon as it was fixed 1 month later, it was running good and before it broke down again, we traded it in to the dealer who sold it us in the first place. Some of the guys on the lot told us it was a beautiful car, in great condition. Gave us 4000 for trade, we would of taken 200.00 towards a trade, NOW THEY HAVE THE LEMON BACK, and we now own a great truck. We will never buy another Cadiliac again.

Pretty much everything.

This car is a total piece of crap! They should all be recalled and the cadillac company should be ashamed and want to replace these cars. I am a single parent and have been locked out of this car 4 times this summer with my 1 year old child in the heat. Every day it is something new wrong on this car. My friend has one also and it stays in the shop more than the get to drive it. This is the worts car any single parent on a budget could ever get stuck with.
