i bought my car in 2002, unfortunately for the past three and half years it has sat in my driveway, due to medical problems. I am just now getting this car back on the road, and it is handling fantastic. I do expect a few glitches, I am taking things slow with it. However, I feel like I have a good solid car and one worth putting the money back into, Cadillac did stand behind their product when there was a recall on the timing.
Weakness:
Owner, not knowing all the buttons to push. PS, traction control works fantastic!!

Biggest POS Ive ever owned! I sold this car for a 1000.00 bucks to get rid of it before it was too late. Not even a master mechanic new what was wrong with it. It took 20 minutes everyday to keep it running, it backfired alot, it would rev up by itself, the cadilic converter whent out on it. We paid so much to fix it and it still ran like crap! |

KNOWING that you own a CADILLAC
Weakness:
storage compartments, weak radio reception, flimsy front seat cupholders, cost of parts, getting a mechanic to work on it First off, I will agree with many of the other reviews in this forum. The Catera was a problem child for Cadillac, and although many of the trouble issues where commonly handled, by warranty or by other means, the Catera turnes out to be just like any other car(please name a car that has been trouble free from day one, I DARE anyone!). Once the issues are handled, you'd be hard pressed to find fault with the car. The major and most commonly overlooked thing is this: The Catera had to make a transformation from Europe, were emmision regulations (at the time) where less than that of the US, and there for (for lack of a better word) had to be "dumbed" down, to meet the emmision standards of the US.

Motor, Price to fix it, Trusting on travels, etc. I purchased my vehicle from a carlot used. I paid 4,000 for it and I thought I got a good buy. I did but 2 months after the computer started to act up and I had trouble with it in the mornings starting it up. The computer was not made in the US and it would cost 8,000 to fix it. So if you want a good car myself I would prefer something other than a Catera. When the "Check Engine" light comes off DO NOT IGNORE IT!!!! Similar Products Used: None. |

Looks like even once thought-of-as 'sleazy used car salesmen' don't want to push this heap on anyone anymore!!! I haven't purchased the car yet - but I have to say, I have NEVER in my life went to purchase a car and had a USED CAR DEALER tell me this isn't the car for me! He actually came out and told the truth that this model/year of Cadillac isn't worth the cheap price despite the low miles (less than 50,000)!!! He said he couldn't figure out why the buyers bought it at the auction since the car has such a tremendously poor reputation for reliability! He went on to say that he didn't want to jeopardize his reputation this early in his career buy selling anyone anything like the piece of crap it is! I was like WOW! Needless to say, I bought a Honda with double the miles on it instead and haven't had one single problem!!! SCARY!!!! Similar Products Used: MB C class, BMW 3, Honda, and Jeep |

Engine and tranny had no problems... Very strong motor (beat a modified Saturn)... Used car did 145 (unusual)...
Weakness:
The smallest tap put it out of comission... Leveling acted crazy when luggage was put in the trunk... Alot of small problems within the car, but powertrain was great... Well, shortly after the hurricane, I was tight on cash so this was the car I ended up purchasing... I was attracted by small features the car had... I purchased this car with 101K and a broken radio... At the time I thought I could get it fixed... I wasn't aware of the reputation these cars had at the time... Anyways, Christmas of '05, I drove this car from Shreveport to Memphis and did a turn around... Took about 12hrs doing an average of 120mph... Later that day, drove to Houston to see family... Few days after, went to Arlington and continued back to Shreveport, on to Memphis again, then to New Orleans... All at 120... Finally got pulled over leaving New Orleans to Shreveport doing 118... The engine was very strong and never let me down... Later found out I had an oil leak... My girlfriend was driving the car on day and barely tapped the parking cement block... Few days later, car overheated shooting Dexcool from the closed radiator... Turns out, that small tap cracked the oil cooler, mixing oil and Dexcool... To much to fix, traded it in ($500) for a Mazda6... Similar Products Used: '95 CivicDX/'05 Mazda6I/'01 Grand PrixGT/'99 GalantES/'99 C230K |
