Strength:
Decent Performance
Weakness:
Unacceptable and extraordinary noise levels. Poor treadwear. I have been extremely disappointed with this tire. Both Wet and Dry traction have proved to be perfectly acceptable. Cornering Stability was also quite good. But these tires are so noisy that I will never purchase them again (or possibly any Yokohama product, for that matter). When new, I was fairly impressed with hydroplane resistance. They nearly matched the Goodyear Eagle F1 GSD3's that have firmly established themselves as the tire to beat, in this arena. The noise was there right away, but I've learned to expect that from a High Performance Summer tire. After about 5k-10k miles, they started to really sing. I just replaced them after the indicators showed at only 22k miles and they were really and truly HOWLING. This is no exaggeration. At 40mph, they would make so much noise that spare change would actually rattle in the cup holder. On top of that, they had a hard time holding balance, despite paying out a considerable sum to have them rotated and balanced quite frequently. The shame is that I put these tires on a car I just purchased for my wife and she's yet to enjoy the car - all because of the tires. She would be embarassed to chauffer her friends around because of the noise. It was that bad. I didn't see any unusual cupping or other abnormal wear. Normal wear pattern across the tread. I can't believe Yokohama would allow such a worthless piece of garbage into the marketplace. Strength:
Good looking. Seem to have low tread wear.
Weakness:
Noisy, cornering ability could be better for a max performance tire, noisy, not cheap to buy, noisy, uncomfortable rumbling ride, noisy, they tramline like crazy and last but not least they are very, very noisy!!. Noisy...very noisy and getting noisier. After 5,000 miles they started to get noisy and have gotten louder as time goes by. They have been looked after...rotated...balanced but they make horrible wailing, whirring howling noises at anything over 30 mph. I took my car to the dealer thinking the bearings had gone and was told " no it's tire noise" They also wobble all the time despite being balanced regularly. My previous Marshall tires were a better buy at half the price. The grip was better and there was little or no noise althoug the tread wear was abyssmal. The cornering abilities of my car have suffered considerably...they squeal at the limit and the limit is so much lower than with the Marshall's. I am not an aggressive driver so can't comment on their race-ability but as a daily driver tire...forget it. They turned my composed, quiet, smooth Jetta into a squealing, grumbling, growling monster it is now no fun to drive my car at all now. I also cannot afford to replace them at the moment so I will have to put up with them. Never again!! I will either go back to Marshall's or save a lot of money for some Michelins or Continentals. Strength:
Reasonably quiet on motorways once "settled" in. Good in wet weather. Not as expensive as Michelin Pilot''s. They look fantastic.
Weakness:
Noisy on anything other than motorways. Seem to understeer more than they should. Not a bad tyre but not a brilliant one either, I was a bit reluctant to buy them initially but couldn''t stretch my budget to Michelin Pilot''s. I bought 225 / 40 /17" on 8" wide wheels. They were noisy to start with but soon settled in and they are quiet and smooth on motorways. They don''t deal with rough tarmac on backroads at all well though and rumble very loudly and thump very noisily over breaks in the road. My Bora now also understeers quite noticeably compared to when I had the OEM Michelins. I have heard though that these tyres need a bit of warming up first so I will endeavor to see if this holds true. Not my first choice and next time I will hold out for Michelin Pilot''s. I am told however that the tread life is longer than the Pilot''s so I will let you know next year how they have fared. On a lighter note they look absolutely fantastic on big rims and the lip on the sidewall to protect the rims have proven to be well designed, saving my rims from damage on more than one occasion. LOOKS, Good City Driving tire,
Weakness:
Sidewalls, Grip, Stableness at highspeeds direction changes. Noisy turns. S2000''s handles excellent. Overall rating by experiance and magazine reviews, that S2000 handles much better than any of it''s competing class and the above M3. I realized that when I purchanced my car. The tires originaly on my car was POTENZA SO2 225/50/16. As I ran out of rubber at about 19,000miles. I replaced them with the Yokohama AVS Sports 225/50/16. 100$ cheaper than the Potenza''s. One thing I noticed right away. My car''s handling performance dropped dramaticaly. Beeing a rear wheel drive, I felt the changes on lane changes, S curves, and 90 to almost full 360 degree turns. One is that the tire is noisy as far as squealing when a corner 90degree turn is made, which the stocks never made at even higher speeds tested. (2) I noticed on lane changes that the cars rear seems to dragg or lagg, and often have to correct my wheel to stable the car. Tested at speeds from 65 to 85mph. Once again, SO2''s also tested at same speed and more up to 120mph, and car was 100% more stable with the Potenza''s. I noticed when I was on the track, that the tires are really unstable in sudden direction changes. One other thest I performed is pushing on the rim to test the sidewalls. The car seems to sway side to side more, with the Yokohama''s. The Potenza''s provided more stiff sidewalls, at the same tire pressure recomended. I think this tire is good for people who like nice looking tires, but do not need the high performance. It will be a nice commuter tire, and around city driving. I do not recomend this tire to someone who will do autocross or try your local back roads S curves at above normal recomended speed limits. '99 Maxima SE
Strength:
-linear and progressive dry grip
Weakness:
-designed for the rain, yet spins consistenly off the line I would like to begin by saying that the AVS-Sport has to be the best value in "max performance" tires today. Only the Toyo Proxxes T1-S is in the same playing field for a similar price. Tires I was originally considering were the Michelin Pilot MXX3 & Pilot Sport, Bridgestone Potenza SO-2 P1 and the grand-daddy of max performance, the Pirelli PZero Asimmetrico. I paid only $286 CDN per tire (235/45/17) as i know the manager of the local Kal-Tire, where i was also helped in selecting MOMO's Sport wheel, but as for the comparable tires mentioned, the nearest competitor was over $100 more! As for the performance, in dry performance the AVS-Sport holds its own against the best tires out there. Only the new (and plain styled) BFG g-force t/a kd (also $140 CDN more)can outperform the AVS-Sport on dry road or track conditions. As for wet performance, I am somewhat disappointed. Maximum wet traction is only available when it has been 40 deg. C (104 deg. F) all day and then it rains and the road and tire are hot enough to remain pliable to the point where confidence can be put forth as to aspire to drive at insane cornering speeds. Otherwise, during spring and fall driving, where the average ambient temp. may be 15 deg. C (59 deg. F), in rain soaked conditions, the AVS-sport's carcass and silica tread become quite hard and lack sufficient grip. Athough this may be the case, hydroplaning resistance is where this tire shines. No matter how much rain is on the road, this tire will not hydro plane, although once again, that is due to its tread design and not tread compound, which is more dry traction oriented. Overall though, if someone is looking for a tire that has amazing handling limits in the dry for both front and rear drive cars, with great hydroplaning resistance and AMAZING VALUE!. It simply doesn't get any better than Yok's AVS-Sport(except maybe the Yok NEXUS!) The verdict: 6 stars for value and 5 overall, as it is still a performance oriented tire, no matter what someone says, performance tires will always compromise dry traction over wet weather perfomance. -Awesome grip
Weakness:
I can't complain, really. They're a little more expensive than the Nitto's but still not too bad. First of all, the tire looks great. The size I got was 235/40/17, and it gave my car a solid stance. The road noise from having a low profile tire is virtually nonexistant, and the ride is pretty smooth. The rims that they're wrapped on is OZ Italy Sinfonias (also a good choice). The tires gave my car an uncanny grip on the road. I personally put a lot of hurt on them, and they still maintained their tread. With these tires, I can take curves in absolute confidance. I paid $175 for each tire, and while that may be more than some of the tires out there, I still think that it is a good tire for the price. I think that you may be able to get them for cheaper price if you look hard enough. But the bottom line is that I've loved my car even more ever since I got the tires. Togather with BMW's already competent suspension, these tires totally rule. |

None. I've used these tires for an autocross event and a BMW driving school. I purchased these tires for $186 per tire. I would highly recommend the Yokohama AVS Sport tire for BMWs.
