Strength:

Dry handling, noise levels.

Weakness:

Wet handling, old design.

These were my first set of Yokohama's. They were 235/45 on 17 inch wheels. I have since been replaced with AVS S1-Z and then the Nexus. These were the first ultra high performance tires I ever bought. The dry grip was excellent, the turn-in was good and I only used them in the summer. Don't even think about it in the snow, please. They were $110 in 1996. A great tire then and now, only many more tires heve surpassed in technology. They are still a great value, but you need to look to Yokohama for better summer tires. They just don't compare anymore with the likes of the AVS Sport.

Strength:

-really good grip in turns
-good cornering
-cool sidewall
-really responsive
-good in wet and dry
-good value
-"Yokohama" name

Weakness:

-really friggin' loud
-spin really easily in acceleration
-the belts shifted in the tires, causing them to split

I would recommend the Yokohama AVS Intermediate to pretty much anyone who wants good performance out of a cheap tire. They're one of the best values out there, an I might buy another set to replace mine that split. I drive my car pretty hard and fast, and these tires held up pretty well. Make plans on peeling out without effort though. I have an automatic transmission and had trouble keeping the tires from spinning in acceleration.

Strength:

-Good Overall Grip
-Predictable at the limit
-Ok wear

Weakness:

-Bad wet handling

I paid $107 each for these, a good value. There is little tire noise, my car is pretty loud by itself though. In the wet these tires just let go unpredictably, could just be my set-up though. Overall, they grip really nice, are predictable at the limit, and seem to be wearing good.

Strength:

Superior traction both in wet and dry weather. Very inexpensive. Good looking tread pattern. Not that noisy at highway speeds.

Weakness:

Although these are high performance tires, Z-rated with low tread-wear design, they have poor sidewall design. I have a suspension set up for extreme cornering capability and the flexing of the sidewall makes it a little scary hanging sharp turns. The highway ride is way smoother than the previous stock and high performance tires I had before. Very noticeable because the ride was very harsh with the same suspension set up and the other tires.

I would recommend it because of the cheap price tag it has and that it can outperform many tires that cost twice as much. I definitely would purchase another set for my stock rims on my Acura but would definitely not get them for the 17 in rims that are going on my car next year. Willing to try the Nitto nt555 radials because of the stiffer sidewall and the large contact patch.

Buy it if you don't have a lot of money but avoid it if you like to yank turns at 70 + miles an hour. Almost lost it a couple of times with these tires but never with the Falkans.

Strength:

Great grip even at full tread depth, cornering traction superior. Inexpensive, best "bang for buck"

Weakness:

Not super quite, wore out fast ($70 bucks a tire, big deal!)
Not a good tire for the snow!

If you like hanging it out on the edge, these tires are a lot of fun. The fist time I took them "canyon racing" they cornered so well my face would sag!!! Loved these tires but couldn't get more than 20,000 out of them.

Strength:

Predictable handling, relatively quiet, decent wet and dry grip

Weakness:

See summary below

I had two sets for my MR2, and the first set was excellent. Great tossability, very good wet and dry traction, even handling at the limit and required about 35-36 psi to be happy (stock is 32). The second set after about 35k miles was a horror. Extremely unpredictable handling in the wet and only decent dry traction. Something happened to the tread compound between my sets, as the second set was far inferior to the first. Wear was still good, but the second set understeered badly, tended to fold over the sidewalls regardless of pressure, and were downright hazardous on damp pavement. The first ones worked amazing in heavy downpours despite being very near the wear bars!

Strength:

Handling, after my turbo install I was going to spend some money on sway bars and rims, but these AVS tires seem to give my car such improved handling abilities I am not sure swaybars and rims will be needed.

Weakness:

N O N E......

I paid 68$ per tire, well worth it. It's like I am in a completly different car. If this car (civic ex) handles this well with just these tires, I can't wait to add a wider rim and some sway-bars for even more fun.RECOMEND IT DEFINATLEY!!!!!!!
I wish I had bought these AVS instead of Toyo Proxes (loud) and put them on my 86 crx si. That car is like a legalized go-cart on the street.
So if you drive hard and and want to save your brakes buy these tires, they will put a smile on your face. If you just want to get from here to there buy something else.

Strength:

Great value for the money since the new generation of Yokohama high performance tires were released. Excellent dry weather performance, very good wet weather traction. Very predictable tire when pushing the handling limits of your car.

Weakness:

Road noise generated from the tires is a little bit too high, but I have been unable to find a tire that is quieter AND can match the AVS Intermediate's performance. Tread wear could be better.

I have gone through two sets of AVS Intermediates on a '88 M3 and just bought my second set for the '91 Integra that I use as an everyday commuter car. Obviously, I like the tires so much that I am reluctant to try anything else in its class. With proper rotation and inflation the AVS Intermediates last approximately 30 - 35k miles under hard driving conditions. I do not slow down very much for corners :^)

Excelent grip when dry. good grip when wet. High speed rating

Weakness:

Can't hardly grip any surface when cold. I'm surprised they don't slide off my rims @ night in the wintertime.

P195/60R14's Front
P235/60R15's Rear

Good all-around tire for commuting, and driving hard. The tires grip the road very well. Very important when 65% of your car's weight is in the back (true rear-mounted engine. NOT transverse). If the tires do lose grip, they are quick to regain it. But if the tires are cold, watch out! When cold, these tires have a tendancy to slip on almost any surface, wet or dry. Braking hard @ 40 MPH, I spun my car 360°. Never had them in snow, but once warmed, they can grip very well on wet surfaces, and even a few inches of flood water.
