Budget car rental aka Avis car rental is the worst car rental company in existence. The employees took over the company a few years ago and they overcharge you to benefit their bank accounts. I rented a car for 5 days in Tampa Fl recently. I got a quote beforehand through their website for $253.00. I thought this was reasonable. When I got to the counter at the airport the woman who was waiting on me said "do you want an upgrade so you will have more room"? I said "no" it's only me and my daughter and we will be fine in the one I ordered. She asked again and again I declined. Then she asked me if I wanted bumper to bumper insurance. I said "no I don't, I have my own insurance" I then showed her my Geico card. So she told me the total was going to be $305.00 for taxes etc. and said to initial where it had $305.00 on the paper which I did. She then told me to initial in the other boxes to decline the extras which I did. The font was conveniently not showing the tops of the numbers so I couldn't see what I was initialing but I assumed the woman was honest and I trusted her. Well don't you know when I returned the car they charged me $527.03. I was livid. I went right up to the counter and told them to get this off my credit card that the total should be $305.00. The guy at the counter looked at it and told me the extra was for tax. I couldn't believe it. When I got home to New Jersey I researched on line and apparently this is a common fraud tactic by this company. There are thousands of complaints from people about the same exact scenario. When I wrote to customer service they had a scripted response saying I initialed for the insurance at $26.00 a day and I asked for an upgrade. These people are nothing but common thieves. Budget Rent-a-Car in West Palm Beach is absolutely the WORST!! WE waited over an hour in line, and the personnel were EXTREMELY RUDE. and to make matters worse, we ended up being charged a MUCH higher rate than what we booked our cars for.

A few months ago, I rented an economy car from Budget and, little more than an hour into the rental period, on a clear day on an unobstructed interstate, the car blew a tire. I managed to keep it on the road, but the damage was surprisingly extensive. I had put the rental on a credit card that eventually paid $6K of the $9K Budget insists was the total repair cost (from a blowout, I reiterate). Budget now is pursuing me for the remaining $3K. Even if I had paid for Budget's pricey coverage, Mastercard informs me, I probably wouldn't have been covered, as the daily coverage provided by the rental car company has a high deductible and many items are not covered. I would strongly advise against renting from Avis/Budget (they're linked) based on this very dismal experience, which also cost me a great deal of my vacation time and forced me to aske a relative to pick me up because the emergency roadside service is so unreliable. I would strongly discourage anyone from renting from Budget or any of its affiliates again. Clearly, their vehicles are poorly maintained and the fact they would hold the customer liable for $9K for a blowout is, in my view, unscrupulous at best. Renter BEWARE!!!

worst customer service ever. I rented a car from this place twice and they charged me extra fees that it would have been much much cheaper to go to another place. Both times I dropped off the car and asked for ride, but there was only one clerk and couldn't give me ride. once I had to call my friend and the other time I had to walk. If you call the customer service and complain, they won't even care. They don't clean their cars not do they check the car before renting them to customers and then if the car had a problem, they would say that the customer did it and they would charge your card. I feel that people go to budget when they have no choice and no where else is open.

I was told that a $25 deposit that would be credited toward my car rental was necessary to reserve a car. When I went to go pick up the car, they said I could get a hybird for $30. My interepretation: an extra $5 dollar on top of the 25 I had already paid. What they meant: and additional $30 for each day!

BUDGET car rental Miami. Lady at the desk let us pay WITHOUT NOTICE $277 for insurance, we didn't want or needed. Very bad organization. Office at airport closed. Car location far away, hard to find at return.

We rented the car for 3 days, for a final price of $243. Our flight was cancelled and we had to fly from another airport 30 miles away, so I called Budget to ask whether I could return the car there instead. I was told they would charge me $110 for that. Although it sounded way too much for 30 miles, I agreed. When I returned the car, I was charged $500! After several complaints everybody kept sending me to someone else, and nothing happened. Some (but not all) of the customer service people were extremely rude. When I said that for the extra $260 they charged me for 30 miles I could have taken a helicopter (which is true), the man replied: "If you are so rich, why do you care about the $260? Another man told me "if you have a problem, sue us!".
In addition, it took 40 minutes for the check out and I almost missed my flight.
Bottom line: I was ripped off, plain and simple.
I would never recommend Budget to anyone!

The car would not start at a hotel so I called and had them tow me and car back to lot to get another one. On return they first wanted to charge me 7.80 gal for gas in the car that would not start. Then they charged me $105.00 plus additional taxes of $55.00 for a tow of their car to their lot. They never told me when I called for help that I would be charged for a tow. I have aaa and would have used it had I known.

I rented a very nice SUV from O'Hare Budget for 1 week. We recieved excellent service and the pricing was comprable to other car rentals. However, even though we filled up the tank with gas, which was verified by the agent when we dropped the car off...we were charged an additional 41.00 for 6 gallons of gas. We called the customer service and left message after message, with no response. We e-mailed customer service and we were given a fax number that was never answered. They basically stole $41 and we will never rent from them again, though up to that point, we were sold on their company.
