This company has no strengths other than they are rude a-holes who try to weasel their way out of paying a claim.

They are extremely weak at customer service and paying claims when their insureds are at fault.

One of their insureds hit my car that was parked in front of my house and admitted this to them and to me but they refused to cover all the damage, they would only cover some of it and they even gave me a hard time about replacing my car cover that was torn in the accident...again the guilty p-arty admittedly said it was torn when he caught it on his bumper. The adjuster was a nasty, jerkwad.!

We were involved in a wreck with a customer of USAA. We were sitting still in traffic and were hit head on. We were left on the side of the road with no car, no rental car and 3 hours away from home. This insurance company would not help and were very rude when we called. Once we got the police report, they continued to tell us that we would end up having to pay the fees for our car to be stored at the tow truck lot. They even told us that this could take years to settle. We were surprised that these people could be so uncaring even once they received a copy of the police report showing that we were not at fault. This company has no offices with desks and people. Everything they do is handled over the telephone (we were told this during one of the many phone conversations we had with a nasty acting employee). I would not recommend this insurance to anyone and I hope that if you are involved in an accident with someone who is a customer of this company that you have better luck than we have.

I'm in the Army Guard and while at drill I was in a 5 man car accident. I'm in a no fault state and even so car #2 got the ticket. USAA did not offer me gap insurance because my car was used and not new. Now I owe 6,800 but they're only willing to pay 4,900 despite the fact that I got insurance to cover the 7,200 I paid for it. Nowhere in the policy does it say that I'm only covered for the depreciated value. On top of that I am not at fault for the incident, gap insurance was denied to me, and car renting (which is only $2 extra/month) was never offered to me. I guess you get what you pay for with them. I didn't have to pay for much because it was military, but it's worthless to me now. It took them way too long to get back with me about all of this, and they totaled my car when it would've been less to fix it (according to the owner of the shop it's currently in). Granted, it wouldn't have been much less; it's a lot more beneficial to the company to total it and scrap it, but it's not beneficial for me. The point of this is that they weren't looking out for my benefit, they were looking out for theirs. The only reason that this surprised me was because unlike other companies, they made it seem like they actually had your best interest in mind. But they don't, they don't care. If you're not as naive as I was than you should already know this, but I was stupid enough to believe their lies.

I've been a member of USAA for over 20 years. It is, by far, the best insurance company out there. We not only pay lower rates, but we get a check back every year when the company distributes excess profits. Because of the type of company it is, they do not horde the money. They keep a nest egg for catastrophic occurances, but everything else is redistributed back to the members. Can you name any other company that does this? The posters who are pissing and moaning about USAA, are NOT MEMBERS and have no clue how good it is to be a USAA member. They just have sour grapes because they are not eligible to join. If you are a member, you are probably extremely happy. If you are not a member, well, it sucks to be you.

Got hit by a USAA member. Figures the claims process would be smooth as they seemed to be a reputable company. USAA never, ever returned calls, wouldn't give straight answers. Would only pay for 30 days of rental car, even though my car took over 3 months to get fixed. USAA wouldn't reimburse me for the rental I paid out of pocked for 2 months. USAA denied my medical claims. It was an absolute nightmare. This went on for over 5 months. Finally got sick of it and got a lawyer. Lawyer ensured I was reimbursed for the rental car, phone calls, time, medical expenses, diminshed value of my car etc. The lawyer was shady, but gave USAA the shaft. I didn't feel the least bit bad due to the issues USAA made me put up with. Pray you never have a USAA member hit you--if you do, call a lawyer.

The VULTURES at USAA are MONSTERS! They eat and defecate money! They caused a woman's car to go into repo status, just because THEY SAT ON HER PAYMENT CHECK FOR TWO MONTHS.

USAA adjusters deserve to have smelly socks stuffed in their lying mouths. DO NOT SIGN ANYTHING THEY GIVE YOU. DO NOT SPEAK WITH THEM WITHOUT A GOOD ATTORNEY. TAKE THEM TO COURT. My wife's vehicle was struck by one of their clients. I filed a claim and received a letter stating they acknowledged my claim and I could get the vehicle repaired where I wanted. Found this to be a lie. Called them and they stated claim would be handled by May 27th. Called them June third to find out from a Supervisor, every thing thus far from them has been a mis-communications. We are still at step one. I have written to the President and CEO to inform him of problems in his company and have written to the Colorado Insurance Board.
Will wait and see what happens, but I am not hopeful.

Stay away from this company until their mis-communications problems are fixed.
