FAKE, FRAUD, HORRABLE SERVICE AND DOES NOT PAY NOTHING I bought the car with 46,000 miles on it and i bought the mechanical coverage from mercury insurance group (through The Auto Club). At 49,000 the engine locked up, I called the company and they told me to take it to the dealer. This was in mid March 2005. Its September 16 2005 and my car is still at the shop and Mercury Insurance Group has done nothing for me but give me one excuse after another and when i showed them proof they said they would get back to me and if they did get back to me it was another excuse. If anyone knows what i can do about this hit me up on my email. If you've delt with them before let me know whats up. |

refuse to pay legitimate claims for vehicle repair. Well, where to begin...First I'd like to say that I am not the least bit surprised that the only positive reviews are from agents trying to sell this product. We purchased an extended Vehicle Breakdown warranty and did not have any problems until our vehicle was almost out of warranty (had 5k left). Transmission goes out and what do you know, Mercury says that they will not pay. They say that we have to show proof that the fluid was changed prior to 50K miles. We have faxed over reciepts but they are still denying the claim stating that the receipts are not satisfactory, per my policy. I have called repeatedly, requesting a copy of my policy's terms and conditions and I just keep getting the 'run-around'. Even the dealership has commented on the fact that there is no reason why they should not pay this claim. Therefore we get to spend 2500.00 of our own money replacing the transmission. In addition, we will file a claim in small claims court, a complaint to the Better Business Bureau and with the Oklahoma Insurance Commissioner. If there was someone else to file with, I would do so. So to anyone that has not already purchased coverage with this company, I strongly suggest that you research your options. there are many other companies out there that offer the same products and the may cost a little more, but at least then you might get the coverage that you are paying for. To those that have already purchased the coverage, I am sorry - too bad someone did not warn us ahead of time, but hopefully we will all learn from our costly mistakes. I, for one, will not use this company again, nor will I do business with any company that does (i.e. agents). |

Reps are rude They lie VERY unethical practices If their client hits you...GOOD LUCK!!! Mercury is a horrible company!! We were rear ended while stopped by a client of Mercury. Mercury was more concerned with if we would sue them & for us to sign the paperwork saying we would not. We said we were not into false lawsuits we just wanted our vechile fixed. They told us we had to pay for the rental & they would pay us back. When we questiooned this Mercury said it was standard. The rental came to over $400.00 and Mercury sent us a check for $101.00. Mercury said we would have to ask the bodyshop for the remaining balance! The bodyshop, who kept notes, said they called mercury 3 times but the inspector was on vacation thus prolonging the release of our vechile. Our insurance company said Mercury is well know for terrible customer service. It has been 2 months & we still have not recieved the full rental amount back. The reps are rude, Mercury lies to you and they are VERY unethical! Mercury should not be in business!! |

Ask any auto body shop who the worst insurance company is and they'll tell you Mercury and Progressive. The absolute worse insurance company I have ever dealt with. My wife and I have impeccable driving records. A few months back she was hit by a red light runner. The other party's insurance paid everything, not to mention the red light runner received a ticket. What did Mercury do? That's right they cancelled our policy. Similar Products Used: State Farm. Had them for 20 years and should have never dropped them. |

They are somewhat cheap at first, but they will raise the rates at renewal time.
Weakness:
Poor customer service. I still have Mercury and am looking for something better. So I sit down to call them to find out when my policy expires, and they are closed. Their hours? 8:00am to 4:30pm Horrible hours. I call @ 8:05am, the answering machine asks me to leave a message. What kind of customer service is that? Don't they have a queue like a normal company. Very annoying. |

too many to list I already posted a review here saying they would only pay 50% of the repairs, but I guess Mercury just had to find away to be even more ..... The shop that is repairing me car said it would be done today. Insted they called and said it's done but Mercury called and said they desided they aren't paying. So now my car is fix and at the show but Mercury said no check. |

bad faith dealings Mercury is incorrigible . I do not understand how the department of insurance can allow them to conduct business as they do. Their conduct borders on fraudulent. The company takes advantage of the "little guy".They are bullies. I think the only way to help mercury see the error of their ways is a class action suit. If one looks up "bad faith" in the dictionary,mercury insurance should be the description. |

Mercury has no strengths. Even though they're cheap, if you ever need them, they won't be there for you. Essentially, you're paying less money but getting nothing. I'd rather pay a little more and actually have insurance
Weakness:
You'll be sued if you use Mercury. They won't pay you or someone that you accidentally hurt. It will come back to haunt you. We already feel bad about an accident but imagine how you'd feel if the company you paid to restore that person refused and you were left holding the bag and the guilt. Mercury rips off victims! On 12-23 (just before Christmas) we were broad-sided by a 16 year old and the fireman that ripped open the door that had trapped my 11 month old daughter said that had that girl been going any faster, my baby would have died. We went to the doctor, had treatments for 4 months. The total bills were $11,770. David offered $11,200 as a settlement. Not only did Mercury endanger my daughter by insuring this girl but now they won't even pay the full medical bill. The treatment was over in April. My doctor demanded payment in June. It's now mid-July and I just received their "offer". So for a ruined Christmas, months of pain and suffering, months of aggravation and loss of time at work and family due to the therapy we get to PAY $500. There was no way to avoid the accident and we all had our seatbelts on; we didn't do anything wrong. I also know that Mercury is going to stick it to this family that caused us so much damage. They're going to get paid but they're trying to short us just to boost their profits. WHAT GOOD IS AN INSURANCE COMPANY THAT DOESN'T PAY WHEN THEIR INSUREES ARE AT FAULT!!? THAT'S WHAT WE PAY THEM FOR!! WE PAY THEM TO MAKE THE OTHER PARTY WHOLE AGAIN! We had Mercury Insurance but we switched. If they won't pay for our bills and reasonable pain and suffering (time, gas, etc.) then we'll have to sue this other family as well as Mercury. That's not very good coverage. IF IT ISN'T WORTH IT, NO MATTER HOW CHEAP IT IS, IT'S NOT CHEAP ENOUGH! I was in a similar accident and Allstate totally took care of us. We had $4,000 in medical bills and they gave us $2,000 for all the time, gas, mileage and pain caused by the accident. Mercury Insurance is the worst (ask your doctor and he'll tell you). Damage Resulting = We had to pay $11,770 because Mercury delayed (and is still delaying) payment. Now we're being charged interest on a credit card and they aren't even going to cover the full bill. Had we not had the room on our credit card, our credit would have been severly impacted so that we couldn't buy a new car. |

The worst possible claims handling and customer service known to man. Words cannot even begin to describe my anger at Mercury Insurance. My fiancee had a small fender bender six months ago, with a witness, that was someone else's fault. Last week, they sent him a notice saying that if he didn't submit a report about the accident to the DMV, he might get his license suspended. Apparently in the state of California, you have to report an accident if there's over $200 of damage. We only had $150, and the other guy had no apparent damage. So, the claims adjuster at Mercury is the ONLY PERSON who knew that the damages were high enough to warrant a report, but said nothing until five months had passed. Well, we found out this weekend in the process of trying to get new, better insurance for a new car that HIS LICENSE HAS BEEN SUSPENDED FOR 2 MONTHS because Mercury did not submit the report, or let us know that we had to submit a report until after the license was suspended! So, the other driver submitted his report, and now my fiancee's license is SUSPENDED, costing us untold money in future insurance, becuase the DMV mistakenly thought that my fiancee didn't have insurance at the time of the accident. When I called Mercury today, they said it was just a "courtesy" to let us know to submit the report and it was our fault for not knowing that damages had occured to the other car enought to need to submit a report. Not admitting that sending the memo with the report form FIVE MONTHS after the accident might be a LITTLE TOO LATE!!!!!!! This is incredible. I'm trying to figure out if there is any legal action I can take. This is just horrendous. THEY ARE THE WORST AUTO INSURANCE COMPANY EVER. |

Claim not paid Repairs not done Mercury staff, *annoying*. Just pray you never need them. I you have Mercury now, dump them ASAP. It's now 3 months after my car stereo was stolen. So far -Repairs not complete. Big hole in my dash with wires sticking out. Mercury's pay-off check issued incorrectly, I can't cash it, they refuse to issue another check. Staff at Mercury are *extremely* rude and ignorant. |
