Strength:

Zero

Weakness:

Very poor customer service and rude adjusters.

This company is horrible, I see why they run ads on TV 24/7. Will never use them again. The customer service is horrible and one adjuster actually hung up on me after I had talked to three different adjusters. NEVER AGAIN GEICO!

Strength:

Excellent customer service!

Weakness:

none that I have found in the last 5 years

I couldn't believe all the bad reviews! We have used Geico for YEARS and have never had a problem with them. 2 years ago my husband wrecked our SUV and made a mess. We had an estimate within a few days and a rental car as soon as it happened. They were WONDERFUL! Everyone we talked to was very knowledgeable and always polite. We have lived in 3 different states so far and excellent service with all of our moves. Last night I took my husband to the ER and left the lights on in the truck. I called Geico and they had someone at the hospital within 30 minutes to jump us off. They were WONDERFUL!!

I was involved in a total loss accident years ago. Police and Geico found the other driver 100% at fault. In the next two weeks, I had to document my account with Geico three different times with three different representatives. In turn, I was given three different contacts for different "aspects" of my claim as it went into litagation (at fault driver had minimal insurance). It took months to settle and during that time period, I didn't know who to contact and was never given any details on the proceedings.
More recently, a tornado came through our neighborhood with no warning. My new car incurred hail damage. I filed a claim and had to take my car to a not-so-local Geico adjuster. When he documented the damage, it was difficult to find some dents in full sun. He said if I found more damage, he would supplement the estimate. When I found more damage he had not recorded, he refused to add it unless a body shop showed it to him. Apparently Geico does not ammend estimates more than once. Geico's website reads, "Hurricanes, floods, tornadoes, and even large hailstorms are typical examples of catastrophes. Nobody does a better job of responding to catastrophes than GEICO. When severe storms threaten, our GEICO adjusters do whatever it takes to ensure our customers receive the same prompt, expert claim service they normally expect from GEICO." I have come to expect slow, confusing service from Geico. This company is too big for their own good.

This is the worst company i have ever dealt with. i just bought a house and dealt with less drama than dealing with this company. The representatives were rude and unknowledgeable. I found insurance through a different company with a lower deductible $100 less per month. When it was time to renew my policy they didn't even have a quote for me and when they did have a quote after getting a speeding ticket removed from my record my policy price still went up.

Strength:

Less expensive than other places that I've looked at. If I wasn't a broke grad student I'd switch insurance companies in a heartbeat.

Weakness:

The customer service at GEICO is the worst I've ever experienced in my life, from any company. I've had better customer service from coffee shops when there's been service issues-- shouldn't the customer service for something as important as auto insurance be unparalleled in excellence? The representatives I've spoken to from GEICO probably shouldn't even be hired to work the drive-through line at a fast food place.

When filing a claim (for which I as not at fault) I had to wait for what I felt was an inappropriately long time to speak to a representative. Then when I did finally speak to someone, I could not understand them-- even though they were speaking English, they were not speaking clearly or slowly-- they were just reading through a list of questions that I couldn't hear or understand what they were asking. Obviously, these questions were important, so I should be able to HEAR and UNDERSTAND them when they are being asked. When I asked the representative to repeat, they sounded annoyed and reread the questions as quickly and as mumbled as they had they first time. If you're working in telephone customer service, you must learn and speak NETWORK English (ie, understood by ALL speakers of American English). Not an inner-city dialect that no one outside of that geographic region can understand. The telephone representatives for GEICO can definitely use more training in this area; or else they should be screened for not being articulate their words well enough to handle telephone service.

Also, it's extremely frustrating when you're trying to handle a claim as efficiently as possible and you have to wait and listen for the representative to run through their script about how their goal is to provide "level 10 service." The first step toward providing "level 10 service" would be to stop wasting my time explaining YOUR goal and to help me with MY goal of getting my claim taken care of efficiently. The first few hours after an accident are not when customers feel either patient or calm enough to go through these kinds of hoops-- waiting to speak to someone, not being able to understand them, and having to wait while they read a nonsense script about providing good service, rather than actually doing it-- otherwise it's just a trite waste of everyone's time.

I must say, after reading the reviews for GEICO below, I would think that they were the big bad wolf...if only I have not dealt with them in the past. The reviews listed on this site were truley written by people that do not know a thing about insurance. The person that was mad that GEICO did not pay for his mother-in-laws injuries is really lost. Auto insurance is there to cover you when you are at fault in in accident. If the person that hit your mother-in-law did not have the right kind of insurance, or carry the right limits of insurance, that is their fault, not GEICO's. Blaming GEICO would be like blaming Pizza Hut because your mother-in-law went there to buy a vaccum cleaner and they couldn't sell her one.
As for the ones who claim that their insurance went up for no reson at all, bull. Why is it that if milk goes up because of gas prices, people buy it. If tabacco goes up because of new taxes, people buy them, But if There car insurance goes up because the average price to repair their car goes up, or the cost of any medical treatment sky-rockets, the insurance company is a blood sucking tick out to screw the public. You people should be ashamed of your selves for being that simple. ALL insurance companies are in the business of making MONEY. If they have to pay for an accident YOU had and your rate goes up, be glad you didn't have to pay the thousands of dollars required to pay for you damages, the damages to the car/property and medical expences of the person/persons you hit. And most of all, please read your policy, and if you don't understand, please ask your agent/company.
Lastly, for the guy that said GEICO trains their agents to cheat the customer. RIIIIGHT, I know you think it makes your statment look more important or truthful to say you work/worked for a company but come on. Do you truley think that anyone who worked for a company for as long as you claimed would go online and post something so simple as what you wrote? And I bet you have a girlfriend that none of us know because she goes to another school and lives in a diffrent town.

Rude, arrogant, dishonest. cheap. employees are complete morons.

I've been with Geico for over 16 years. I've never had an accident that was my fault. I have full coverage on my truck from them. Everytime I put in a calim they find a way to trick you into it being a larger deductable so they won;t have to pay or as much making it a collision claim..very sneaky..always getting the estimate way down by using inferior parts etc...then Geico just makes decisions on their own knowing that there is nothing you can really do. I filed with the state and nothing happened. They don't even have a Geico rep or field agent in my state so this jerk in Arizona Geico office calls up and makes me send him pics of the truck etc..all at my expense and time! They are arrogant and rude. Teir rates are highe than most and they spend millions on their corny advertising but can not pay on a honest valid claim!!

Easy to sign-up or cancel, easy to switch vehicles on account, fast and friendly customer service.

Just cancelled my Geico because my truck broke down and I can't afford to fix it. Not only did Geico let me cancel in the middle of a pay period, but they are reimbursing me for the period that started a couple of days ago - crazy!

Also, since I had an old truck that didn't needed to be covered, I was paying only $48 a month.

None - there are MUCH better companies out there...

Weakness:

Bullys. Horrible ethics. Dishonest. Quick to throw you under a bus to save a penny.

Was involved in an accident with a GEICO insured, who admitted full responsibility for accident. GEICO was very charming at first when it came to items being replaced (like car seats) asking that I take them into consideration and ask for "what's fair and reasonable"; however became complete jerks when it came to them paying me out for my totaled vehicle and medical expenses. It's been almost two months since the accident and nothing has been resolved! They keep insisting to pay me only trade-in value for my vehicle, which after doing my own "Market Research" is worth about $6,000 more than TIV. In regads to medical, they won't pay any bills until settlement is reached, which means you either get sent to collection (like I'm about to) since they haven't paid, or you accept THEIR terms and the crappy $500 per person regardless of injury!!!!

Weakness:

dishonest, poor price

Got a quote over the phone for $700 for both my cars. When I wanted to sign with them they surprisingly bumped the price to $1400, claiming that the at-fault accident that I initially reported to them caused it to sky rocket. They found out that the cost of the accident was over $750 as they originally thought so this caused the price to DOUBLE… woooo… Geico - What a big hoax - 15 minutes will NOT save you a dime on car insurance it is just a waist of your time!
