Strength:

nothing

Weakness:

rude customer service

I'd not recommend this company even if you have a good driving record.

The customer service was rude, basically looked up my info and promply said they would not cover me. That was in 1987 when I was looking into insuring my '85 Civic.

I'm amazed this company survived so long, am very happy with my USAA.

(Mercury) It was good rate and the customer service was better.

(USAA) I have been driving 14 years without a accident, and 4 years without a ticket and that was on a motorcycle. I've switched to USAA in 1994 and it gave me more coverage for less money, their customer service is first rate!

Strength:

Their commericals, easy online quotes, thats about it.

Weakness:

Well, they insured me for about 1 week, then I was in a hit-and-run. When I called them at the scene of the crime, I was on hold for about 30 minutes, and they person on the phone was a moron, so I just hung up. I had to file the claim online. The claims adjuster was fairly nice, told me they would get back with me within 2 days. Well, 2 days later I receive a letter in the mail stating how they could no longer cover me because I had a ticket for speeding over 1 year ago. Hmmm, wonder why they didnt notice that when I originally signed up?! Dont bother.

Price they gave me was about the same as anyone else. No "great savings" like they claim in all their ads. Probably a better idea to go with one of the bigger companies like Farmers or State Farm.

Strength:

None.

Weakness:

Unless you're over 40, don't even bother calling them.

Called 'em up for a quote-- they wanted OVER $400 A MONTH to cover me at the time (age 26). I have A SPOTLESS DRIVING RECORD. The car was a Subaru Legacy Wagon. Not a ragtop Mustang, no accidents, no tickets... what gives? Called 'em twice to confirm that the first person hadn't lost her mind. Turns out the whole company has lost its mind... or at least, they're not interested in insuring you. Age discrimination in a different package, but definitely at its best. Don't bother.

Strength:

Rates at least $350.00 less than 3 other compared companies. Easy to make a claim, and it was settled quickly. Getting a rental car was painless also and convenient to not have to pay directly out of my pocket and wait to get reimbursed. They simply pay the rental company directly.

Weakness:

When it came time for renewal, I was cancelled. Before my renewal came up my spouse and I seperated and were divorcing and he was removed as a secondary driver from my policy. I became disgruntled because 1) My rates increased by $350 when it came time for renewal. Reason: they claimed I was originally placed in their premium company, but somehow our DMV records were not reviewed until it was time for my renewal. Since I had no accidents but 2 tickets(Both at least 2 yrs old) I was considered high risk. Yeah right.
I honestly believe I was dropped because of my ex-husband. He had 2 claims, one for an accident and one for theft, and 1 old ticket. Even though he was dropped off the current policy 5 months before renewal time, Geico in their wisdom tried to require me to supply them with proof that either he had his own insurance (he'd bought his own car), or proof he and I weren't co-habitating and he would not be a driver. This is the clincher, when he bought his own car Geico insured him on his own SEPERATE policy. They didn't drop him, he dropped them and was never placed back on my policy. Then they said once I supplied them with that information they could re-insure me, for $370 more that what I previously paid. Needless to say I told them where to stick it.

I would not recommend Geico. They are not very customer friendly and not trustworthy or accurate.

I was pleased with the way speediness of claims handling, and was pleased with the fact that I didn't have to supply a credit card when I needed a rental replacement car. I was even very satisfied with their great rates.
However, I didn't appreciate their dishonesty and unwillingness to admit their mistake and at least meet half-way in their effort to correct it.

As with most insurance companies they're only looking to make money. If in any way, you hinder that I guarantee you will be eliminated. Harshly. How they handle customers could definitely use some reviewing. I was unnecessarily insulted by one of their representative.

If you have a clean record (tickets included) and are sure you can miraculously maintain "no claim" status, I would recommend them. Otherwise, buyer beware.

Strength:

Customer service, rates, and forms are clear and easy to understand

Weakness:

I don't know how they handle claims on accidents or tickets. I don't know how much rates go up on these occasions.

I have had Geico for over 3 years. The rates have been wonderful and love the fact I can call 24 hours a day for any reason. The people I have talked to from quotes to questions about insurance have been very nice. I never had a "bad" customer service person. When I sold two cars and bought a new car, they credited my acount for what was not used on the sold cars and the transfer to the new car was extremely smooth!

Strength:

None GEICO is all B.S.

Weakness:

GEICO has only one product. Do you want 2 insurance companies? Two bills? GEICO doesn't write any property business, they refer it all to Travelers. Their billing fees can add up to $48 per year. Figure that into your quotes.

GEICO's only goal is to give money to Warren Buffett so he can be richer. Ask GEICO if they pay dividends to their policyholders like other "Direct" insurance companies do. Ask GEICO what they billing fees are per year and make certain you figure that into their so-called 15% cheaper quote. Their customer service is weak because they do not pay their reps enough money. The only thing GEICO can brag about is their price. THEY HAVE NOTHING ELSE GOING GOR THEM. GEICO has a huge turnover problem as written in the 1999 Annual Report. If they are so great, they why are 1 out of 4 policyholders leaving every year? You've seen the ads, each week 10,000 drivers switch to GEICO. What they don't tell you is 2,500 of them leave each week. Don't take a chance with your family's financial security. Go with a real company.

Everything. This is absolutely *THE BEST* car insurance company around. Not only do they beat all other companies quotes, their 24 hour customer service is excellent and every counselor I've talked to was very friendly and extremely knowledgeable.

Weakness:

Nothing. No weaknesses!

I would definately recommend GEICO to anyone who will listen. This is the best car insurance company around, and I also have Homeowners with them. Excellent company!!!!!!!

Progressive - a knock off company of GEICO. Don't be fooled by their similar "direct" insurance approach - it doesn't compare!

Strength:

Available at all hours. Instant quotes. (Generally) Friendly customer service. Fairly quick turnaround.

Weakness:

Price. Claims resolution (rumors). Underhanded tactics.

Like most everyone else, I went with Geico hoping to save a decent amount of money. When I started with them, I was 19 with an '89 Chevy Beretta, with a minor accident to my record. First quote was ~$100/mo. with state minimums and $500/$500 deductibles.

I moved from Pittsburgh to Washington to find my new rate at ~$150/mo., an acceptable increase for the new region. However, when I bought my new car (2000 Eclipse), instantly their rates got unreasonable. I had to first talk them into switching me to their 'preferred' policy, which basically meant I'd been with them a while and I had a clean record (accident expired). Suddenly, I was going to be paying about $2600-$2900/year for some rather pathetic coverage figures. Liberty Mutual's numbers allowed me to still pay $150/mo. and really improve my insurance coverage. I don't see how Geico saves anybody 10-15% with their prices.

On the other hand, I've never had anything but *flawless* customer service from them, no matter what time of night or day, even when I requested a dec. page from them after I cancelled my policy with them. The reps I talked to always went out of their way. Maybe I just got lucky.

I've also been told by unbiased brokers (was doing consulting work for them) that Geico will lowball to get customers, and then screw them on policy changes, accidents, tickets, or renewals. I've also heard some rather inconsistant insurance figures, when talking to folks. Only heard rumors about some shady claim resolutions.

If you don't have a ticket/accident, give them a try. If you do, don't even think about it; they'll pin you to the wall.

Strength:

Full time service, good claims response

Weakness:

Rates aren't that great considering they're basically a "mail order" ins. co.

Pretty good ins. co. all things considered. But some of the reviewers are right in that it is very dependent on who you are talking to on the phone. With this co. as with any other "mail order" companies you really need to know what you want & how you want it before calling them.

I got quotes from many companies before getting my auto insurance, and decided to choose Geico Direct, because I thought it was a few dollars cheaper than others . Then I filled out their application form with the exact information as the quote and sent it.

After one month of waiting for my insurance, they told me they rejected my application, reasoning the exact information I gave in the quote. My experience with Geico made me feel like I was dealing with complete unprofessionals.
