Strength:

None, Gieco S-U-C-K-S !!! They wanted 875.00 every six months to insure a 1999 Saturn, full coverage, with two drivers.

Weakness:

Their bogus radio ads that GIECO bombards us with in this market (D.C.), stating " GIECO Drivers save an average of more than $240 on their insurance rates" BS. I contacted three other insurers, I was quoted a lower rate from each company.

Gieco is well known in the federal sector as "One Accident Geico", because after the first claim you either get the boot or your rates are raised so high you have to get a second job to pay the bill, best advice, stay away from GIECO

ISSUE # 1:

I switched to Geico because I was involved in two automobile accidents (one of the accidents I was not driving). I found their rates to be very reasonable at the time. However, I was just involved in another fender-bender going 10 - 15 mph where there was absolutely no damage to my car and a little paint came off the other car.

I called Geico and they told me that they would get back to me but in the meantime I had to take my car in to a Geico Claims Adjuster to get it looked at. While I was there, a gentleman who had AllState Insurance was having his car looked at by the Geico Claims Adjuster. I found it interesting that the Geico Claims Adjuster estimated the cost of the man's car $400 more than an estimate he got somewhere else. The man with the AllState Insurance must of thought it was odd also because he questioned the Geico Claim Adjuster about it. All the Claim Adjuster could say was he was going to cut him a check and what ever the man did with the check was up to him. That if the man could find a place somewhere cheaper to fix his car and said,"I would rather estimate high ..."

This got me worried and for good reason because after four days of not hearing from the claims department I had to call to find out that the "little" accident I had was estimated by a Geico Claim Adjuster at $1080 for the other car. Now because my accident cost more than $950 they will raise my rates. Is this why the Geico Adjusters like to estimate high?

I thought insurance companies were suppose to help their clients but in this case they are working for themselves and the other parties involved.

ISSUE #2:

After getting Geico Insurance, they had raised my rates because they assumed that I lived in the city. After a few conversations with a representative from the company and a couple of months later they lowered my rates because I do not live in the city. I never received a credit or refund for those couple of months that they had my insurance rates increased.

Claims/ Emergency Road Service Simply the best for the price! Agents and cust service reps.

Weakness:

none

I have been extremely pleased with GEICO. Their rate was $250 less than Progressive and the agents and customer service reps were outstanding! Even when I had a couple of tickets their rate was still lower, but I still would have paid more simply because of the excellent staff they have there! They were knowledgable and friendly. I would highly recommend to anyone who wants to deal with company that treats you fairly and friendly. I had to call their emergency road service when they tire on my Explorer went out. They first made sure I was safe and secure and then looked for and sent out a tow truck to me promptly. When the tow truck came and fixed the tire, I just signed the bill and was on my way. No hassles. Unlike AAA where you pay big bucks, but get terrible service in return. The tow truck guy told me that they will take a service call from GEICO first over AAA because they are so easy to deal with and they get their money. He also said he likes dealing with their claims unit because they seem to treat eeryone fairly and quickly. Luckily I have not had a claim, but it seems that they are up to par on that end to. It gives me peace of mind knowing that GEICO is on my side. Stop wasting your time and money on rude arrogant independant agents and call GEICO NOW.

Strength:

Great claims settlement- they didn't haggle to just patch things up on my accidental restoration (but this might be a result of the shop's iniative). Claim was paid ASAP, and I had a choice of any body shop.

Weakness:

If you mess up (ticket, liable accident) they WILL crank your rates, and seemingly don't come down after the ticket is older than 3 years (even though they say the ticket is insubstantial to your rate after that time). I started w/ my '93, brand new, 21 years old, at 65 bucks a month (albeit a different residence). When I had my first fender-bender (I was liable 100%), although I was driving another old car (that had liability insurance through Geico), the payout was about 1000 bucks to the other driver, and as a result of this incident, they DOUBLED my insurance rate, although I had been with them for a couple of years. After the ticket fell off, and I was also 25, my rates still didn't reduce (read: vindictive underwriting dept.). Then, I had my second fender-bender (100% liable again, should've fought thte ticket), my rates skyrocketed from about 120 bucks per month for full coverage in Anchorage at age 28 to 280 bucks per month!!! (the payout was about 14k for my car and the other) After 6 years of continuous coverage w/ Geico, they REAM you up the a** of you have an accident with yourself at fault. As my policy was renewing, the underwriting dept. needed a form to be signed my myself allwoing them to check my driving record, but after having moved from one state to another, it was lost in the mail. So I requested another copy, to be faxed, but the underwriting dept. faxed only the cover page. After probably a couple of dozen phone calls over about 3 weeks to get the customer service representatives to get underwriting to send me another form to sign in order reinstate my policy (which had been cancelled in the meantime due to not receiving my signed form), my insurance coverage had lapsed for more than 1 month, and BINGO!!! higher rates due to this fact of a lapse, now I'M PAYING FOR UNDERWRITING'S NEGLIGENCE AND VINDICTIVENESS. Therefore, I logged onto PROGRESSIVE'S website, and scooped up a policy for 60 bucks per month as compared to Geico's 110 bucks permonth (both liability), TA-TA Geico!!!!!!!

280/month full coverage, wouldn't recommend!

Online Policy, 24/7 support.

Weakness:

They ripped me off.

Geico quoted me at 1500/year for my new car. It was comparable to the other low rates, so I went with Geico as they are a national brand. A couple days later, I get the paperwork in the mail and they have raised my rate by 1000 dollars. Yes folks, 1000 dollars without my approval or even my consultation. Whatsmore, they already withdrew the money from my account. I'm a very low risk driver - 1 ticket in six years, no wrecks of any kind. Plus I am an engineer who makes a great salary for my age. This sort of BS will get around eventually. I cant imagine there are any people happy with Geico after the way they seem to treat customers.

Strength:

After a total of ten hours calling numerous insurance companies, Geico was 2nd lowest. Geico is available 24/7. Mercury (the lowest, only $24 less) maintains "banker's hours." Every person I have spoken with has been exceptionally polite and friendly. The rates go down further with longevity. The premium can be paid via website. And of paramount importance, they leap upon claims ! They do not waste any time ! Getting a temporary replacement rental was exceptionally easy !

Weakness:

Their prefered repair facilities need far more monitering and supervision.

Presently $478.00 per semi annum. I do recommend GEICO to anyone I can.

Similar Products Used:

Cheaper than: 21st Century, Progressive, AAA, State Farm, ISS, every company I contacted except Mercury (Geico has much better hours, and doesn't require copies of past 5 years policies.)

Some of their ads suck
High insurance rate.

I would not recommend this company at all. I brought a 97 eclipse GSX turbo and I was 26 years old. I needed inusrance and geico charged me $740 per 6 months. When I turned 27 they didn't lower the rate. I finally decided to research better companies but most that I looked at was higher or equal to Geico's rate. Luckly heard abou progressive. I am now paying paying $440 with progressive per 6 months and I also got into car accident right after and progressives claims department took care of everything real fast. After I switched Geico was interested in negotiating my rate. Sorry geico, never coming back to you

Online policy information, efficient billing, never have had to wait on the phone for more than 60 seconds

Weakness:

Not very cost-effective, those stupid commercials

I'm currently paying $640/6 months. I had one speeding ticket when I signed up, got another 2 years later. My rate actually went down after the first one fell off. I'm looking forward to what'll happen next year when this one falls off too. I have no claims, ever, on auto insurance. BTW, I have max. coverage, 100/300/100, and all the extras on my leased vehicle.

Last time I renewed, the agent went the extra mile to save me $14. I wish the rate were significantly lower, but I appreciated her efforts. I've never had someone uncourteous.

Actually, I did have to call for emergency road service once. They stayed with me until the tow truck showed up. Too bad my damaged tire and rim weren't covered (hit a grate that fell off a truck).

I inquired about lease end. They volunteered that, if the lessor claims there's anything wrong with the car, they'll cover it, no questions asked. I also asked about transferring to a new vehicle, with a possible 2-3 month lapse. They said they would need to "pretend" to cover me during that period, but would do a pro-rated refund for all days when I didn't actually have the new car...just call them within 24 hours of driving off the lot, and provide the VIN.

The agents always seem courteous, if not knowledgeable, and most know what they're doing. One actually spent 20 minutes yakking with me about how to handle the end of my lease and suggesting a cheap place to go get a new rim for my car.

Other than cost, I'm quite happy with them. It's pretty much point-and-click auto insurance, especially with the new online web servicing.

Allstate- use it and you are out. We had had the insurance for 10 years. Husband had a wreck and I had a windshield broken. Filed the first claims that we had ever filed for these. Insurance was canceled. Did not pay fully for wreck repair. Waited forever for the money. Never again. Thumbs down!!!!!
Allstate- price very high. Don't ever get hit by a person inused by Allstate. It took over a year to settle a claim with them. All we asked for was the totaled new car (less than1 month old) replaced. Thumbs down!!!!!

Not much- their rates are cheaper than most down here in Texas as long as your driving record is spotless.

Weakness:

The call in reps don't know crap and aren't interested in your satisfaction in the least. Also- God forbid you should ever have to submit a claim on your PIP. 3 months and I haven't seen a thing from them.

I currently pay $149.00/month for me and my girlfriend on a '99 Explorer 2dr and '89 F-150 4x4, that was until I sold my truck and she bought a new Ford Focus. From there my monthly went up almost $200.00 to make up for the new car. My policy renewal came in the mail last week and they graced me with a $50.00/month increase because I was in a wreck in May(not my fault) and I filed on my PIP. Overall, they suck.
