didn't have the chance to find out since the first impression turned me away.
Weakness:
False advertising Over the Top Rates I submitted on online quote to Geico.com, and a week later they finally responded with a quote that was much higher than any other quote I received. They quoted me $1383 for 6 months for a 1998 Kia Sportage, full coverage, state minimum. Now I understand most of the insurance criteria, and granted I do live in a city, one of the primary drivers of the vehicle is a male under 25 with one speeding ticket, but after shopping around that quote was just outrageous!!! And after reading all of the reviews here, it seems that they like to increase rates quite often, I couldn't imagine what I would be paying. Never the less I told them I could make a whole other car payment with what they wanted me to pay for insurance and I decided to go with a smaller company that doesn't have to rip off thier customer's to pay the Taco Bell Dog to do their commercials. |

hmmmmm...... in light of the above, none worth mentioning.
Weakness:
High rates, dishonest practices. Geico mislead me when I set up my policy; they promised that they would give me barebones coverage then saddled the policy with extras. Their rates are disproportionately high as well, but over 3 years they've cost me an additional 500.00 because of deceitful practices. I am initiating a class action law suit against Geico for hese practices. Anyone interested contact me at Robin3844@attbi.com. Similar Products Used: none |

Financial Strength, Customer Service, Claims, fair (not "cheapest" rates. I have worked at Geico for more than 3 years now. I don't have much to say about turnover and how it is to work there but one thing I can say is that it is the best insurance company on the market. I can't get insurance with them because of my driving history, but can't wait until I can! I see so many posts here about how they don't pay their claims. This is complete BS. Yes, not every claim will be handled perfect, but let me assure you that it will be the best it can be. People are so uneducated about insurance, this is why so many people complain. If you could hear the stories I have about the claims we have paid out of good faith. Geico's motto is that our job is to protect our insured in the best way possible. I have seen so many claims where our insured has the lowest limit they can choose on their policy, and they severly hurt or kill someone. I have seen Geico pay MILLIONS on 1 claim where our insured only had 10,000 limits, out of pure good faith, because our job is to protect. Find another company that will do that. Trust me, noone will. As for the way they come up with their rates: everyone complains that they use your occupation or other information. Well this information is very valuable. EVERY company asks you the same questions after you sign up (on the application). Every company uses your credit, driving history etc. The way Geico comes up with rates is the best in the industy. All the other companies have copied Geico and the way the come up with their rates since they have really become a big company. In summary, no one company can be perfect, after all humans work there, but if I really screw up I want a company that is looking out for my best intrest. Not there's. Geico does not make money on the premiums you pay. They make it on investments. The premiums go to pay other claims. When you compare Geico to others, keep in mind, the price may not be the best, but look at the important information. Be educated. For example, as you read this Geico has the best financial strength of any company. That basically means that they can pay ANY amount of claims at any time. If another hurricane like Andrew ever came through Florida again, for example, Geico could handle over 30 Andrew's in one day(the hurricane that caused the most damage in US history). State Farm would be bankrupt if they have 1. Just be educated when you shop.. |

???? Geico has been nothing but excellent in my four years with them. Right after I first signed up I caused an accident in which the other vehicle had a fair amoiunt of damage. They took care of this immediately. Raised my rates minimally but then just reduced them again as I've now gone three years without another accident. Customer service has always been great and they have always worked with me in order to get my rate down as low as possible Similar Products Used: state farm, allstate |

Weakness:
You don't get what you pay for. I was rear ended by a driver on the highway. Geico had me take it to a shop they deal directly with. The shop appraised the damage at $2000. A week later I get the car back with $1000 damage fixed. Took the car to be inspected and it failed. Seems the shop just replaced the bumper cover and left the original bumper and panel. The shop refused to fix it. Called Geico and they said too bad. They're real nice at Geico 'till they have to fork out some money, then they treat you like the enemy. Promptly paid total loss and towing premiums. This is what insurance companies are for, right? Adjuster could choose to do $8000 repairs to body and frame instead, giving me an all-patched-but-working wreck. A true 24-hour service (as advertised).
Weakness:
The customer service is too bureaucratic. They seem like they have computers but for some reason I have to repeat my story every time I call them as well as every time they transfer me to another person/department *cringe* One representative gives one answer, next time you call and they have no idea who did you talk to and who would tell you that. I lost traction on wet road and wrecked my car. Geico summoned a truck for me, paid for transportation of the car from NJ to NYC (somehow they had no adjusters in NJ) and paid the price of the vehicle as a total loss: 16K. That is approximately what I would pay for such car to a dealer. The down side is that I spend a few hours for a few days on the phone to get them to transport this thing to NY. In the end they failed to do it and I had to go to NJ and arrange the towing myself. Similar Products Used: None yet. |

Geico Employee
Strength:
Fair to customers. Follows state guidelines. Willing to work with people!! I have been an employee at Geico for 3 years and also a customer for almost that long. I have read through these reviews of Geico and have to disagree. I felt the same as many people have felt..in the BEGINNING. That was before I educated myself about the insurance industry, general practices and state law. Geico does not do anything illegal and every citizen has a legal right to check insurance guidelines and criteria for any company with the state insurance commissioner. If something is not right, the commissioner has a duty to investigate. If a person feels they have been treated unfairly, then they should report that. Geico uses underwriting criteria to assign "risk." The only way to assign this risk is with the help of statistics. I have been and know many "blue collar" workers and agree that not all people in a "category" share the same driving history, but a company does not know someone personally and has nothing else to go on. Believe me that if a person shows themself to be a good risk, then their rates will reflect that. Geico is a very fair company to work for and makes great strides to work for their employees AND especially their policyholders. If a person calls and has a legitimate complaint/problem, then this company works to resolve it. It is ignorant people who do not LISTEN and who do NOT do their homework and who are NOT educated that have issues with this company. Do yourselves a favor and EDUCATE yourselves!! It is YOUR responsibility to be a good consumer just as if you were price / value shopping for a new car. Do not blame a company for your ignorance. Do not get angry for misunderstandings!! All people and companies have employees that make mistakes (like the person who was told the 1st ticket is forgiven). That was a mistake by one employee who must have been confused. Geico does offer that benefit to customers who obtained their policies BEFORE they had tickets. THEN, as a benefit and courtesy to the customer, that ticket may be forgiven for a good driver!! Try paying attention and asking questions. Insurance companies are not trying to rip people off and normally do NOT make a profit on your premium dollars. Insurance companies make money on investments! Insurance companies want your business and want to make customers happy. Rates are consistent with expenses, medical, etc costs in a particular area. Similar Products Used: State Farm--was with them 10 years and bought a new car. They wanted twice as much as Geico. So don''t be fooled, it can happen the other way around, too! |

good website
Weakness:
Their rates are higher than all the companies who gave us quotes which include: AMICA, Safeco, State Farm, Met life, Hartford, GMAC. After being insured with GEICO for 27 years, we notified them last Nov. that we would not renew our policy when it expired on Dec. 10, 2001. Later we received a bill for $9. No other explanation except that it was to cover their cost. What cost? We switched to AIG because the rates were much cheaper. But the company was a joke (see my review on AIG) so we decided to drop it. We called GEICO about renewing our policy, we figured why not? The rep. told us our premium would be increased by $120 a year from the original. Is it a penalty? We called several companies and found NOT ONE of their rates were higher than our original premium with GEICO. GEICO''''s ads say you could save 15% are absolutely false, at least in our case. By the way, we never had late payments and have excellent driving records. We went to Safeco. The process was painless, the agent very helpful. The rates, with better coverage, are 11% lower than GEICO''''s original premium. Similar Products Used: AIG-cheap but it has the worst service I have experience. Safeco-so far, so good. We deal with our agent in person. Nice change after almost 30 years dealing with voices only. |

Excellent customer service. Lowest Price
Weakness:
none I have been insured by Geico for 9 years. I have 3 vehicles and 4 drivers insured by Geico. I have had several comprehensive claims and recently totaled my car in an accident. In every situation Geico responded immediatly and took care of the problem very promptly. In the the most recent case, my wife totaled my car, Geico had an insurance adjuster out the next day. They gave me a fair price for the vehicle and explained every step and followed up with phone calls. I have shopped around for less expensive insurance on several occassions and found no other insurance that was even close. I am amazed at all the negative reviews on this web site. My experiences have all been excellent with Geico and their price is the best I can find. Similar Products Used: American Family |

Worst claim adjusters, document forgers, cheaters. One of the worst insurance companies when they handle a claim. My car was totaled and they first kept it in the auto body for 3 weeks before they decided to total it. then they try to give me the lowest quote for the value of my vehicle ( they would not use Kellys book value or any other resonablue valuations. When i was finally agreed to their settlement, they make me sign the title and mail it to them then they reduced it by $500 and the manager told me he did not authorize the origional price. in the mean time, my rental limit run off($600)and which they would not even pay for it. At this point i still do not have the check and i will see how they respond when i start dealing with them with an attorney. Similar Products Used: None |
