Paxton Superchargers Superchargers

Paxton Superchargers Superchargers

DESCRIPTION

The Paxton Supercharger uses a gearless centrifugal compressor which is belt driven off of the crankshaft and runs cool. This means: intercooling is not required or recommended; no heat shields are required; you use your stock engine oil with the same oil change intervals because the Paxton utilizes a unique self-contained lubrication system; you can keep your exhaust system stock with no modifications required; no inconvenient idle down periods are required; engine servicing remains the same as stock thanks to its compact design; and because the Paxton is belt-driven off of the crankshaft youíll get almost instantaneous boost. Kits available for most American cars.

Strength:

Great looking and performing Supercharger. The SN2000 is quiet with alot of kick.

Weakness:

Directions are poor. The parts in the kit are mislabeled(but every thing was there)and the kit is not compleate when it comes to addressing timeing and boost. Need to spend additional money for adding a MSD ignition retard kit. The linkage kit is poor and cheap. It doesnt identify what type of carb to use. (had to buy new carb) Over all had to spend an additional$350 to make it work.

No. get a Vortex

Strength:

I purchase both a SN93 and a VR4 used for my 5.7l camaro. The instructions were very well written. And the power is substantial. My kit came with both the alcohol injection and the cooler for the s/c oil.

Weakness:

During installation there were fitment problems which required me to space the s/c bracket away from the motor to properly align the pulleys. The PAXTON Automotive department was sold three years ago making it difficult to find Paxton. Had to buy the FMU separately, although it ran fine without it (but not at full potential). The fuel pump must also be purchased separately, again not necessary but recommended.

I found a good deal on it used for both superchargers which may not have been possible with another brand. It is a good product with support you would expect from a company that developed the hardware and then sold it to another company. Ask about the support before you purchase!

Weakness:

First blower seized 2 months after warranty expired in spite of, religious fluid (recomended- Ford Type F Trans. fluid)every 2000 miles, absolutely no abuse, and absolutely NO towing (third party {dealer} confirmed that fluid in blower was absolutely CLEAN}. Bought second blower for $900 to get a one year warranty.Would have cost $750 to repair orig. unit and only get a 30 day warranty. Kept blower in sealed package on shelf for 3 months (no time to install). Upon opening, found drive pulley dinged (can't install belt), axial play in shaft, and new blower will not even turn by hand. Paxton refuses to honor warranty, insisting that repair must be paid for. Fuel enrichment system fuel line tends to disconnect in hot weather, causing a great big, smelly, flammable hazard.

Paxton sucks. Their service is lousy, their warranty is a joke, and their product makes a Yugo look reliable. I've given them one star, but they don't even deserve that. Absolutely no one should buy this junk.

Strength:

Fairly simple to install the blower on engine without taking up all the room under the hood. Also has a nice polished finish.

Weakness:

VERY poor instructions with illustrations that do not match components in the kit. The oil dipstick was a nightmare to make fit between the a/c bracket and the Supercharger Bracket, kit bolts missing etc. Adding a fuel pump and having to cut the fuel lines is a pain in the...

Install 5-7 WhippleChargers a month and they are the best designed, thought out, simple bolt on mod I have ever done of this level. Their kits fit PERFECT every time, clear easy to follow instructions, no cutting of fuel lines or the plumbers nightmare that Paxton delivers. I would not recomment a Paxton for anyone less than a 10 year journeyman Tech (Im a 30 year journeyman) thats looking for a crash course in problem solving. A WhippleCharger can be installed in a weekend by anyone with minimal mechanical experience in their driveway, plus the Whipple makes more power and doesn't look like a Air Conditioning compressor. $ for $ theres NO WAY to compare the two, especially concidering the difference in installation between the 2. I have also had trouble with Paxton solving problems as they have a bad attitude...(I would too if I sold junk)Bottom line...Buy a Whipple & be happy, buy a Paxton and test your willpower to avoid choking someone. I have installed every type of Supercharger made(approx 50-70)
and just did a Jackson Racing unit (Eaton blower) on a Mazda Miata and no problems at all. Good luck WC SportTrucks.....

Strength:

If you want reliable 5 psi boost ('assuming' the unit is properly built), quiet operation, and a nice looking supercharger under the hood, this unit does the job. HOWEVER, if you want more than 5 psi, look to a gear drive unit!

Weakness:

MANY!

If you have a Paxton SN89, SN92, SN93, SN2000, and/or VR4 superchargers, I can rebuild/repair or sell you parts. I also purchase units that customers want to sell (as long as they are reasonable in price and not completely destroyed).I understand the difficulties that are listed in the reviews below because I experience much of the same from Paxton in the early to mid 1990's. It appears things still have not changed! Reason why I obtained moy own parts and suppliers. Email me if you have questions. I will be glad to help ya. -Mike

Strength:

Produces a fair amount of boost when it works.

Weakness:

Poorly engineered product. The ball drive system is flawed. The balls have to be torqued incredibly tight against the output shaft to make it spin correctly, which causes the shaft to fail. Product support is non-existant.

Product is poor quality, Instructions are bad, and estimated installation time is a joke. I have gone thru 3 output shafts since I have owned the unit. Now the 'Paxta-map' fuel controller is starting to go out. I called Paxton and they NO LONGER SUPPORT this unit, and do not sell any alternatives. They advised me to contact VORTECH! Finally some good advice! I should have bought a Vortech to start with.
