Apex Universal Canister and Tip Mufflers

Apex Universal Canister and Tip Mufflers

DESCRIPTION

The Universal Series exhaust consist of a canister and tip. Available in the popular DUNK, N-1, and RS models, the universal canisters may be welded on to custom piping. This allows an unparalleled degree of flexibility in vehicle applications. Sound levels must be controlled through piping diameter and the effective use of resonators. Consult your local tuner or muffler shop for more information. The optional Super Silencer is also available for 115 mm tip canisters and lowers the output sound by approx. 7 dB.

Strength:

-Sound (when using ATS or SS silencers)
-Ease of installation
-Doesn't scrape on 20mph or lower dips
-Doesn't corrode as fast as other brands
-Appearance is nice
-Add the ninja-star-like ATS to your N1 and the cops won't bug you as much.

Weakness:

-It's a tuner exhaust. cops will bug you.
-annoying without silencer
-if a cop doesn't pull you over, a ricer will tail you.

I think it is an amazing muffler. I got the N1 Universal N/A, and the only negative thing about it is that without a silencer, you're begging a cop to pull you over. Then again, that's 99% of all mufflers out there, especially universals modelled after the N1's and Racing Medallions. I recommend a Super-Silencer (which costs a few extra bills) or, if you can, get the Apexi ATS (active tail silencer). It keeps you virtually legal till you floor it, which then opens it up and expels the excess output. It's deep and throaty sound is very nice at low rpms, but when you hit the gas, everyone notices. (which isn't always a good thing).
The only thing better i can think of that could keep the police away is a GReddy full cat system, but you're talking more money out of your pocket. For a mid-range investment, it's the N1 hands-down.

Strength:

Power gains from improved flow. INCREDIBLE sound, I couldn't ask for better! Beautiful looks / high-quality materials. Overall craftsmanship (picture-perfect welds, etc). Just the right size. JDM cachet! :)

Weakness:

Can be a bit pricey (luckily I found a like-new used one). Can be a little raspy when cold -- sound improves immediately once warmed up, though. (Okay, I'm stretching here)

Wow, this is by far the best muffler I've ever had. I have a 1994 Tercel (don't laugh :) ) with custom-bent 2.25" piping from the flex-pipe back, a high-flow catalytic convertor, and no resonators. Originally, I had a Dynomax Ultra-Flo (because I was on a budget), and I thought it was great. That muffler was NOTHING compared to my N1! The N1 produces noticeably more top-end punch and filled in the midrange a little more, it looks beautiful in all its polished-stainless glory, it's JUST the right size (and not too heavy), and the sound... ah, the sound! VERY deep and bassy at low revs (it has set off a few car alarms inside parkades) -- plus it makes a mean popping/snarling sound at idle. At high revs, it lets out a nice roar... not buzzy or blatty, it actually reminds me of some race cars I've heard. In a nutshell -- very JDM, high quality, great charactersitics!

Dynomax Ultra-Flo -- nice for the price, but way too bulky and heavy... sounded okay, but weak compared to N1... also, not a very good-looking muffler.

price... i got a hookup finish/quality style

Weakness:

maybe a little brappy at certain rpms, but i think i can solve that

very impressed with the quality and style. i have an intake, header and i got 2 1/4 custom piping to go with it. nice and low, until vtec where its a little brappy, but that is a product of the single cam. maybe later i will try a resonator as i dont have one now.

Badass sound, especially with 2 1/2in stainless catback exhaust. The look of this muffler is awesome, rather scary on a car. I have an automatic tranny and I didn't expect it to sound like the monster it is.

Weakness:

The tip is a litle big, about 5 1/4 in and it may hang a little low on some applications but other then that it's sweet

I dropped about 240 on it shipped and the thing kicks ass, I woud tell anyone who wants a throater sond, more performance and a better look to get it.

The N1 muffler looks good and has enough ground clearance so that you won't knock it off on a speedbump if your car is slammed.

Weakness:

TOO LOUD!!!! Even with the silencer the muffler is too loud and has a dirty, raspy tone. I got rid of mine after about 2 months because of the horrible noise. A few months later my friend who had the N1 on his Prelude was ticketed for a noise violation.

I paid $200 for the N1. It was a wasted $200 that I will unfortunately never see again. I don't recommend this to anyone, especially anyone living in CA where cops ticket you for eveything. It is just too loud and annoying.

The universal dunk muffler with a custom exhaust has a very good sound to it. It gives a little rapping sound until full throttle, then it sounds like there are two more cylinders on your engine, givving it a great deep tone. Great looks!

Weakness:

The size. it barely fit under my car. Know I have to watch where I drive so I don't scrap the bottom of it.

I paid $250 for the muffler and an additional $200 for full stainless steel exhaust. It was a bit pricey but I think it is worth every penny. I would recommend this to anyone looking for a little more power and a great sound.
