Strength:
MTX overall--> Great company with great engineers behind them. Great products... great technology. Just make sure you have CLEAN power as well... sh!ttty power WILL blow a sub... having the 'LOUD mode' on a stereo turned on USUALLY blows subs... dial your stereo without the 'LOUD' mode. It's xtra amplified frequencies for a sub... and subs need a simple LOW frequency. Dial a stereo with everything OFF... then start with tweeters, then turn on the mids... adjust the fades... then turn on the subs... keep your subs at 50hz, no higher!! THESE SUBS SOUND BEST with 1" inch or more MDF or HDMDF. Usually 3/4 makes a ping sound at super low hits... so spend XTRA on a better box.
Weakness:
If you want alot of bass then this is a great speaker, BUT it requires the RIGHT components... BIG Power, BIG Wire, GOOD X-Over, THICK MDF box (1.5 inch) etc. And all of this WILL Cost More, so if you have LITTLE $$money$$, then this IS A WEAKNESS FOR YOU !!! Years back I ran (2)FosgatePower 12" subs(same lookin speaker).. then i blew them after a rough 6 months of use with an original FosgatePower 1000 amp (2.5 feet long, 5 inch high). I was just about to install new fosgates... but since we picked up the MTX line... i decide to run that in my car... it was a FREE choice. So i ran those with the fosgate amp and it sounded killer. Last year i built another system, (2) MTX 8000 12" subs and a MTX 81000D amp. OVERALL--> Speakers are great... but they NEED power to sound good. Of course a cheaper system will sound good if it has matching low power for a low power speaker... (thats why they make cheaper stuff.. not just because its a piece of sh!t.. its because people simply want xtra sound in the car to complete the fill in music). I see $80,000 - $100,000 cars with cheaper audio.. its about the match!! But if you match HIGH power with a HIGH power sub, the match will be rewarding.. that includes spending the money for 1/0 gauge wire and everything else. Hey it looked good, thats about it.
Weakness:
Weak cone, came un-glued hell the glue was ozzing out where its says sooo pretty "MTX" Didnt hit as nice as I thought it was going too! Alright bought this brand new off of E-bay. Hooked it up to a 6500D, week later, sub is now blown!! I'd rather have my old Rockford XLC with only 150 watts RMS than this piece of crap. Had to turn up gain almost whole way to get close to the sound i used to have with that system that was a 1/4 of the price. Strength:
Strong low bass. Quick response thanks to the magnet. Not that expensive got a better deal than most.
Weakness:
Needs a good amp with at least 600 rms to reach the bottom of its potential. Needs a deep box no shallow enclosures. Was a little skeptical of this product because of some of the negative reviews. After I bought, installed and went through the break in period I realize that the negative reviews are either bogus or from people who have no understanding of car audio diagnostics. |

Weakness:
NONE! WOW! MAN These subs can really hit! If you want some serious bass, go ahead and purchase these because it's well worth 600 dollars for both of them. Power them the a Thunder81000D amp and your done, you'll have the loudest beat on the block. If you don't car, underpower it with a cheap am, and they'll be cooked. For best results on any sub, or amp, keep the brands the same...to make it easier, just get MTX subs and amps, because they're the best. Good clean bass/SQ... (i can tell its clean and undistorted bass, as people a block away are stopping and waiting to see where its coming from) Good SPL
Weakness:
only had them a couple of weeks, not sure yet. I have 2 MTX thunder 8000 hooked up to a hollywood excursion amp, thats pushing about 850 RMS into both of them. They have great clean bass, and pound hard at the right frequencies. In fact, they hit harder than a pair of RF 15s" i had, and almost as hard as four Excursion 12"s i had previously. CLEAN, RESPONSIVE, ACCURATE, and LOW HITTING! A LOT OF SUB FOR THE PRICE!
Weakness:
IF UNDERPOWERED, THEY WON'T LAST LONG! THE 8000 WON'T TOLERATE DISTORTION OR THE IGNORANT INSTALLER. I have delt with MTX subs as long as I've been into car audio. They were my first subs and it's what I have now!. The 8000 is a fantastic sub that I believe no other sub can touch in its price range. I've ran sub from RF, Infinity, Alpine, JL etc. and none of them compared to the impressive mix of SPL and SQ. This is a SQL sub and anyone stating otherwise simply doesn't know what they're doing! I run 3 12" 8000 in a sealed box qiving each 1 cube they are very clean, responsive, and LOW! They DO need power! Anything less than 400 RMS isn't enough! I have 500 RMS going to each and they still need more! YOU NEED TO KNOW WHAT YOUR DOING WITH THESE SUBS! NO HALF ASS BOXES OF 50 WATTS OF POWER! BUY A SERIOUS SUB, GET SERIOUS POWER! sound like crap when morons don't know what they're doing with them I have 3 12" and these things hit harder and move more air than i've heard out of HX2's. For all these ppl on here sayin that they suck, i think they're either runnin crap for wattage to them, or have a half-ass box built for them. Theres alot of other possibilitys that these morons probably messed up on with their subs but with proper wattage (low wattage will still make 'em hit nicely) and a good box you'll be heard from blocks away.
