Strength:
In my new setup I found out just how CLEAN these subs are; they are very tight in the proper airspace, and produce no distortion. Not only can they take far larger power loads than they are officially rated at, but I would honestly recommend powering them quite a bit higher than their rating for the best results (as long as it's clean power...). Very sturdy subs. These subs are definately intended for performance. air filter replacements Weakness:

small box (most good 8" require .25 or.33 cubic feet in sealed box)
Weakness:
price better. Better sound is had with 10"s ( many of which require .5 - .66 cubic feet) i had two s8l7 in a mustang running 300 rms to each. they sound pretty good for 8" but I dont know what kind of 10" or 12" subs people have used in the past. These dont compare to other subs. I have two 10 JLW3 running 175 RMS to each in an Eclipse which is not as loud but bass is much deeper. I have 1 Alpine R 10" running 400 RMS in a 350Z this is louder and deeper than the kickers also. Then I have 2 Infinity perfect 10.1d in a MB running 350 RMS to each these is louder and deeper than my other set ups. All boxes mentioned here are sealed and range between .5 - 1.1 cubic feet. In the past I had two 15 HCCA Orion subs now those things are loud 1200 RMS 99db (sensitity). Similar Products Used: kicker, jl, fosgate, CV, Polk, Infinity, Alpine, Eclipse, Orion |

S8L7/DVC (2O)
Strength:
- Loud for an eight, sounds like a twelve - High power handling (450 watts rms) - Uses small enclosures (.33 cu ft min) - Nice-looking design - Well-manufactured from quality materials. - Made in the U.S.A.
Weakness:
- Priced a bit high ($229 msrp), but can be found for around $100 Kicker's S8L7 Solobaric eight inch subwoofer was probably one of the top three subwoofers of its size when it was introduced in 2001. It's probably still one of the ten best eights out there, but this is partly because the newer Kicker S8L7 models have edged it out. How can I make a claim like this? Well, for one, I've purchased several subs in the past few years, a few of them eights, some of them tens, and a couple of twelves as well. I've also spent countless hours tinkering and listening to subs made by JL Audio, Rockford Fosgate, MTX, Pioneer, Infinity, and some low-end brands. I've listened to many others at auto sound competitions and in friends' cars. When I'm not listening to subwoofers, I enjoy reading reviews based on lab and listening tests performed by professionals. One of the things I've found from my own experiences and learning from others is that all good subs are able to do one thing very well: move lots of air in a controlled manner. If you want a subwoofer that can create clean and accurate bass, you have to find one that will move enough air so that it can play both loud and low when the music demands it. For an eight inch driver, the Kicker S8L7 moves a lot of air. How? For starters, it has a powerful motor that can push (and control) the cone over a great distance. The S8L7 has a respectable 10.5 mm of cone "throw" in each direction. This means nearly an inch of peak-to-peak motion when driven to max output levels. Not many twelve-inch subs, let alone eights, can achieve this level of performance. Another reason the Kicker S8L7 can move more air is its squared cone. Not simply an aesthetic element designed for generating sales, the square shape is functional because it provides a larger surface area than traditional circular cones - 20% more to be exact. So not only can the S8L7's cone move further than most others, it also pushes a larger volume of air with each movement. I currently have a single S8L7 installed in a custom built .75 cu ft sealed enclosure in the trunk of my 1998 Riviera. Firing through the armrest opening and receiving a solid 200 watts rms from an Infinity BETA 100 class-D amplifier, this little monster really puts out the low notes with authority. No, it's not the loudest sub I've heard, but I'm not feeding it all the power it can take, either. It's loud enough to integrate with the rest of my system, it sounds very clean, and it goes plenty low for a single eight - strong to 35Hz, then starting to drop off below 30Hz, but still somewhat able to reproduce the deep 20-25Hz notes. Although not SPL machines by themselves, two or three S8L7s could make a heck of a lot of noise inside any car or truck. In a vented box, you could expect even more output and a "boomier" sound. I've heard of some folks hitting 140+dB with multiple S8L7s, and Kicker actually went above 150dB using only two of them! A final note on build quality and materials - as usual, Kicker excels in this area. The S8L7 is built like a tank with a cast aluminum frame, stitched rubber surround, tough poly cone, and spring terminals that accept big-gauge wire. Yes, you pay a bit more for all of these goodies, but it's all necessary for achieving the goal of moving more air, and it's a decently attractive speaker to boot. Of course, it's made in the U.S.A. by a company who's been making car subwoofers since 1980, so what did you expect? Similar Products Used: - JL Audio - Rockford Fosgate - MTX - Pioneer - Infinity |

Strength:
boomy bass from such a little guy, It can handle 350 watts in a vented box as long as a subsonic filter is used. The Cone has extreme excursion and the cone will NOT separate like some pulp-paper junk (aka rockford, jl and others use paper cones with plastic coating) I would recommend this box and sub to anyone who has a small truck! Email for details...
Weakness:
none so far, except the freq. range is 25 to 100 hz, doesnt hit much mid bass as other 8's. keeps blowing them away! Just because one owns a Ranger regular cab truck does not deny one from turning heads... outsiders may ask "what the..." and I simply reply "Kicker" haha! there are some larger subs that cost much more, I am completely happy with their (kicker's) product! I will testify, to my best knowlegde that this 8" in a VENTED box has far greater output at the 40hz. tuning frequency than most (or all) of the 10's I have heard. One 8 does no harm to my legroom, yet I would be willing to say that the $130 I paid Is Not Enough... Similar Products Used: alpine R series, boston pro, Kicker cvr, fosgate he2. not even close. |

Good clean solid bass. Hard hitting. Require little air space. I got the speaker on sale for 99$ at crutchfield
Weakness:
Withstands to much power. My 1200W amp isn't enough to push 4 of them. they sound good still but they need more power. I just bought 4 of these little woofers and hooked a 1200W amp to it....needless to say, it blew me away. I was surprized that they all fit in the truck, even though we had to take the seat out to install the amp. One guy up above said these subs wont get loud???? try 4 of them...they do get real loud. I would reccomend to anyone. |

break in time wow, I know kicker can make subs with tight, bass. but I was worried that like most 8's, this wouldnt hit the really low bass, it does. For the people who usually go with a good 10 for range this is an awesome sub, still breaking it so not sure how loud it gets, but I can feel it has sopme real power. I havn''t found any to my knowledge. I purchased this sub about 2weeks ago off ebay Brand new and for $100 I was gonna get the L5 but couldn''t pass up the deal. So I got them In my Reg cab 2000 Tacoma and man does it hit LOW and hard, I was very very impressed by 1 8" sub, I already ordered my second one. They hit just as hard and low as my buddies round 10" Solobarics, I have them in a Sealed .5 size truck box. I am very very pleased and impressed with this sub. I just purchsed the second brand new one off ebay for 100bucks again, can''t wait to get that second hooked up and running also. They are awsome sounding subs Similar Products Used: Older 8" round solobaric sub, No where near the level of the L7 |
