Strength:

Low cost
Decent sound quality

Weakness:

Lacks SPL
Can and will distort when you crank it up to try and get some more volume out of it.

I bought a 10W1v2 for my car just yesterday. I was powering this with a 220W Alpine Amp. I was very disappointed. It just wasn't what I was expecting. With all of the reviews I read on this sub, so many people said this things had great SQL (Sound Quality) and pretty decent SPL (lots of boom, "hits hard"). I was NOT impressed.

The sub did have some decent sound quality. Didn't distort too much... was pretty tight. However, the lack of SQL was insane. I wasn't expecting this thing to hit as hard as W3 or W6 or anything, but I was expecting something! In all honesty, this thing did just a little more work than what a nice set of 6x9's would do. It just wasn't worth having a subwoofer in my trunk if I wasn't getting at least some boom that was better than a set of 6x9's. Again, I wasn't looking for much, just something to fill out the bottom end. I'm not looking for my eyeballs to shake from vibration...

Sure, this subwoofer is cheap, but after listening to some in the same price range (Alpine, Kicker, Polk), I came to the conclusion that the W1v2 is a complete and utter flop. Not worth the money, even though it's cheap (I got mine in a rear firing JL Audio made box for only $149).

I don't feel that this subwoofer is cheaply made, I just feel it's more useful for maybe an open ended vechicle (SUV) or a hatch back type vehicle that isn't looking for some boom, but is looking for something that can fill out the bottom end where their upfront components lack. I, on the other hand, was expecting a little more boom from this thing... I mean, it was a JL Audio sub for crying out loud!

I've listened to the W3v2's, W3v3's, W6v2 and the W7... All of these are EXCELLENT subwoofers and you can NOT get any better than these in their price range. I've owned the W3v2 and W3v3 and was always quite pleased with those subs. Fortunately, the place I bought the W1v2 is letting me bring it back and get one of their 12" W3v2's that they have which are on sale... I'm going to have to upgrade the amp, of course, but I just don't feel the W1v2 is hitting as hard as I'm used to.

Personally, I don't like it. It just doesn't hit hard enough... Again, I'm not some teenager that wants nothing but BOOM BOOM BOOM, but I do want to know that there is a subwoofer in my trunk and not just a set of 6x9's or really nice components for sound quality. The W3v2 and W3v3 are both EXCELLENT on both sides of Sound Quality and SPL. So, I'm going with what I should have first off... I was just trying to save a few extra bucks.

My advice, save a few extra bucks and get a W3v3 or W3v2... Since the W3v2's are going out due to the W3v3's, you can probably get them much cheaper and yet there isn't a big difference between the two besides cosmetically and a little mechanically. However, the difference in price may not be worth the slight increase in performance and looks. I doubt many people will be happy with the W1v2's if they've heard any other JL product.
