Strength:

build quality,looks,sound

Weakness:

HUGE size over 16" in total needs big surface mounting area limited installation places

Focals new line of speakers the 40A is a 15" or 16" in focal terminolgy subwoofer designed for all enclosure types sealed, ported etc including free air. I am a lover of the sound of correctly installed free air subs and the Focal offering does not dissapoint, running a bridged DLS amp @ 350w into the 4 ohm load the sound is tight loud low and hard it offers excellent neutral all round performance and is very efficient with a high sensitivity of 92 dbl ideal for smaller amps used in sq systems ..infact you could easily double the present power without any problems to give more spl .The sub is operating in the sealed boot of my 3 series bmw saloon firing directly through the ski hatch backing up my focal polyglass front components people who have heard the system are surprised at the sound integration for a fifthteen with no laziness or overhang but with very low extension you feel unlike 10" subs that you hear rather than feel. The speaker also looks the part with the logo peeping through the ski hatch and the focal logos on the cast spider and magnet cover
