Model Reviewed: 1999 10.5 2-ohm

Strength:

Fits into small enclosures, sings half the midbass, tight tight tight!

Weakness:

Needs a LOT of power - but look at that driver and you'll know why.

The Boston Pros, in construction, fit somewhere between music subs (Image Dynamics, JL Audio, a/d/s, etc.) and death-by-bass SPL subs (Orion, Earthquake, Ground Zero). Fortunately, they combine the best of both worlds, being musical and extremely powerful at the same time. The downside is that, yes, you actually DO have to feed them that much power. Not necessarily the rated 1000W for a 10.5LF, but at least 500W. They are more musical than most subs out there, definitely in their power range. And they punch holes in the walls of your car. Expensive, but worth the dough.

Kicker Solo-Baric 15", a/d/s, Image Dynamics - better than any of them.

Strength:

Smooth sound with a great punch for Sound Quality
Construction of the speaker.

Weakness:

credit it deserves

I had 4 kicker CompVR 12's in an extended cab of a ranger. AND that was just to friggen loud. If you want just bass and make you dizzy while you sit this is way to go. I had fun with this system, test at 150+dbs in the cab. My right ear started to feel weird so I decided to sell it all. And box I had in there took up to much room.

BUT for people who enjoy listening to music, Boston is the way to go. There whole line is awesome. I have the Boston Pro 5.4 component system powered by a PPI PC450 amp and as soon as the Boston Pro 10.5 sub was added (powered by a PPI pc1800) I could not believe how good the truck sounded. The sub delivers smooth but solid punch. I put a bass cd in and played a track at 24 hertz and the sub sounded good. I went up to the 60's and it performed great.

Don't expect to be friggen loud, but when my buddies jump in they are impressed because not only do you get the solid bass, but my Components bring the rest of the music to life. To be honest I still can drive people out when I play music by Korn, Static-X, Papa Roach, and more.

Far as building the box for the Boston, whats so hard. I mean Boston gives you exactly what the measurements should be. And for a small box that you can almost fit anywhere and play that well I think it is worth taking your time and building.

And I have heard that over powering them will destroy the sub. Ok I have about 800 watts going through mine and it just keeps playing.

So in conclusion, for someone who wants great sound quality and bass that won't over power you Mids & Highs, small encloser this is the way to go.
And get yourself a good component system with a small.

Strength:

This sub can slam! And it slams musically and with plenty of class and style.

Weakness:

The enclosure must be meticullously be built. Absolute no air leaks. This baby requires a lot of power, and once you feed it power, your trunk/car will rattle so much that you'll need to dampen it.

This sub is an absolute must for those who desire good sound along with nice, tight bass. DO NOT put this sub into a bandpass box. It will not hit right and you'll think less of Boston Subs. Please, follow the specs: .5 cu feet for a 10", and you'll be pleased with the results.

Right now, I'm only feeding it with a max of 225 watts, but when my MTX amp comes in, a total of 775 watts will be behind this Boston. Feed it lots of power, and it'll keep that grin on your face.

At the price that I paid for, it's a steal. I think it's too late to get them because Good Guys are clearancing all of the Pro's out.
