Boston Acoustics 12.5LF ProSeries Subwoofers

Boston Acoustics 12.5LF ProSeries Subwoofers

DESCRIPTION

Everything about the 12.5LF is big. Big magnet, big voice coil, big cone and a big, big sound. Despite all that, however, it operates in a surprisingly small enclosure, delivering sound that is clean, deep and extremely loud. The 12.LF features die-cast aluminum baskets and RadialVent cooling for increased power handling.

Needs POWER...

I have this ONE 10.5"fl Boston running in a ported box off a 2000w RMS Targa amp, and man it blows.
Never had i heard nor felt such direct hard hitting bass across Rock, Jazz, Rap and RnB genres. Please Boston make more of these...

Strength:

well built, durable, great sounding and made for a compact enclosure. You will be hard pressed to find a better sub that delivers tight acccurate bass and is very versatile in sound. This sub will work with all types of music

Weakness:

I am using two and have 400 rms going to both. Unfortunately, I have fried the voice coils on my previous set. The sub did not distort and i became aware of the fried voice coils from the burning smell of them.

The subs were replaced under warranty. However, Boston does not offer a reconing kit for these subs and once they are fried, I can be only use these subs as a fancy door stop. I wish I could purhase a reconing kit which is simply not available.

A truly exceptional sub woofer. Not only does is sound great, but it also delivers it in a small 1 cubic foot enclosure. Boston claims it can handle up to 1000 watts rms.

Strength:

Exceptional accuracy in all types of music, from symphony to rap. Perhaps the perfect sub for those who appreciate music, not bass-heads.

Weakness:

None whatsoever.

Easily the best subwoofer I have ever owned, the Boston 12.5LF in a sealed box has the punch and tightness of a 10" sub with the depth and sound of a 12", making this easily the best sub for sound quality. While some subs might hit harder, none will match its accuracy.

Weakness:

not a thing

I found this sub for a steel at a pawn shop and put it in my Jeep Grand Cherokee. I have 400 watts going into it right now and it hits extremely hard, so hard I usually have to turn the gain down on my amp. This is the best sub for the money by far and would have nothing else in my vehicle. Yep and I really did pay 30 bucks so go to your pawn shop and see what you can find.

Strength:

1) Tight, clean bass 2) soft when you want it soft, louder then hell if you want to impress 3) takes just about anything you can throw at it 4) small enclosure so you keep your trunk space 5) just get it... ok?

Weakness:

1) anal about the enclosure size 2) $300 (but well worth it!)

I've had this woofer for a solid 9 months now and it has yet to yeild to my punishment. I am running it bridged on a Fosgate 700S amplifier (about 800 watts at any given time) and it plays LOUD from the trunk of my 1976 Chevy Nova Medalist. It plays accurate as hell too. every time my friend's get in my car they comment on how incredibly clear the bass hits even at high volumes. I have 3 buddies w/ dual HE2's on more powerful amps and my system hits harder and louder then their dual sub systems. I still find myself leaving my car with a grin on my face after all this time. One thing to keep in mind is that you will need to haev a box made to spec. it NEEDS a 1.0 cubic foot enclosure to sound right. anything bigger and it will bottom out and anything smaller will limit your excursion (unless you are running it on a ton of power) this was the best purchase I've ever made on a system. I am also running Boston RM9 6x9's front and rear on a 500watt(4ch) amp.

Strength:

Tight clean bass. Hit's every note with authority. Excellent musical sub.

Weakness:

Hungers for more power than the 50 watts minimum. Needs at least 500+ watts to sound right.

This sub is a great SQ sub. It delivers clean tight bass and it does all that in a 1.0 cu ft. box. I'd have to say that this sub is one of the cleanest sub out on the market today, even though it hasn't been redesigned yet, it can still compete with the other great sound quality woofers out there.

Strength:

bulletproof construction, super-clean bass

Weakness:

heavy magnets?

This sub is the best for around 200 bucks. In the right enclosure this thing slams! I've got a Soundstream 502 bridged at 4 ohms pushing it (500x1 @4 ohms). The Boston's deliver just pure hard hitting clean bass. This is the best $400 I spent in a long time. I have put these through some major sonic abuse and they show no signs of giving up anytime soon. I would definately recommend this to anyone looking for just pure, clean hard hitting bass. Just for the record on how hard this thing slams, with only moderate soundproofing in the trunk, I have hit a 140.8db at a recent SPL test.
