Strength:

Incredibly strong cone Amazingly small enclosure requirements Flat response and accurate punch in small enclosure More than honest power rating Good Price

Weakness:

Very shiny and attractive to thieves Doesn't come in dual 4 or dual 2ohm configurations. Dumb hex key terminals are massive pains in the ass.

I just received my Audiobahn Alum15X the other day to test out. I also own a Audiobahn Alum12 and wrote a review for it on the page for it on this site. First thing I have to say is that it runs actually better than I had imagined. I had expected the sub to be only about 20% louder at first because it is a new sub and needs some breaking in, and that it wouldn't hit as low or as accurately as my 12 in it's 1.6 net box. Well, I've ran it probably just over and hour and a half total at high volume(more at low break-in volume) and it is already getting better. When I first hooked it up I ran it through some tones and it peaked about 8-10HZ higher(which is perfect since the 12 peaked too low) and was even flatter in it's frequency powerband. Around it's peak it was at least 25% louder than the 12 at it's peak already. I then ran a couple music tracks acrossed it to see how it liked day to day music. Since it peaked at almost exactly 50HZ it like most types of music ALOT. I've never heard a setup more daily driveable. Also the punch of quick drum beats and hits were just as accurate as the ALUM12 in it's large box... incredibly hard and direct hitting with never any harshness or softening. The Alum15X is housed in a 16X16X16" cube with 1.7 cubes after port but before sub displacement. Inverted you have 1.7cubes but mounted traditionally you have about 1.55cuft. to play with. With 1.55cuft. and 10 square inches of port tuned to 36HZ and 1100WRMS signal(it's rated power by the way) it's is simply amazing. I expect some more volume when it breaks in but it is already incredible. My friend with two Kicker CompVR 15s and 1100WRMS in his small S10 xtra cab with 2.7 cubes each vented to 40HZ is right in the same SPL alley. Up high around 60HZ his is actually a little louder but his signs off immiediently under 50HZ and isn't really louder at it's peak VS mine to our ears. His doesn't have the punch or broad powerband so the sound quality is superb on the audiobahn. His metered at 149 on a meter little over a year back so I imagine ours at their peak is about 145dB on the new termlab meters. After several minutes of wide open signal this sub doesn't give up. Even with it's rated 1100WRMS it has yet to show any warm spot in the center of the cone or scent from the ports. After running for a long time you can feel the cone has warmed some but it is evenly distributed and very mild. There is one thing I do not like about this sub. Those stupid Hex Key terminals... stripping the wire just to the right length and holding the wire in the holes while you screw the terminal tight takes time and isn't nearly as easy as those push and fit and release terminals on the Alum12. Bring back the old terminals and you'd have a perfect sub.

Strength:

good SPL/SQ mix, 120 oz magnet, aluminum cone, hits clean and hard, price(if you shop around!)

Weakness:

power hungry! Shiny aluminum cone and surround can attract unwanted attention :(

I had been looking around for a 15 for a few weeks when I came across this deal from www.cardiscountstereos.com. The ALUM series has been highly reviewed for the 12" and 10" sizes so I decided to go with Audiobahn. I have had good experiences with Audiobahn amps in the past. I have an Audiobahn A3200E(~900-950W @ 3 Ohms) powering one ALUM 15X in a 1.7 cu.ft. sealed box. I expected the SPL from this speaker, but I was surprised at it''''s SQ. For a 15 it is quick and keeps up with the music. It hits very low and hard, this puppy moves a lot of air. I have it facing the rear window in my Explorer and it hits very hard. I get a lot of surprised looks when I tell someone that all that bass is from 1 15. You must have the power for this baby though, it sucks some juice. Anything less than 900W just won''''t do it justice, I''''ve tried. I''''d love to get a second one, but I have to upgrade my electrical system to accomodate the power that two of these would draw first. If you can get a hold of one of these at a good price it''''s worth the money, just make sure to give it it''''s juice.
