Alpine SWR-1041D Subwoofers

Alpine SWR-1041D Subwoofers

DESCRIPTION

Go ahead — crank up that volume knob because Alpine's top-of-the-line 10" subwoofer can definitely take it! The precision-crafted SWR-1041D 10" dual 4-ohm voice coil Type-R sub handles lots of bass power, and still provides the accuracy and crystal-clear sound you expect from Alpine. The motor structure and double-stacked magnets focus magnetic energy within the vented pole piece for awesome power handling. The pulp cone has been reinforced with Kevlar® (the material used in bulletproof vests) for extra rigidity. A 1" Santoprene rubber surround aids in cone travel while guarding against decay that can mar speaker output. An extended spider landing area provides extra excursion for fuller bass. The dual 4-ohm, 2" voice coils are big enough to handle up to 1,000 watts of peak power and provide system wiring flexibility. The tinsel leads are woven into the dual progressive Nomex spiders so you don't have to worry about them splitting apart. With this design, you'll get nearly 3" of cone excursion for maximum output. An aluminum diecast frame provides a secure, non-resonant housing. The SWR-1041D is designed for use in sealed or ported enclosures.

Strength:

More low end sounds then many other 10 inch subs I have heard. These speakers just won't blow... I have tried. Props to Alpine.

Weakness:

notta

After owning a pair of MTX 8000's I felt my ears needed a little rest so I decided to look into something a little lighter. What I found was the Alpine type R 10's and these subs can really make people think twice about what you are packing in the trunk. People have sat in my car and swore I had a set of 15's and where shocked to see the small 10 inch alpines in the back. Needless to say these speakers are well worth your money. Hooked up to a MTX 6500D amplifier with 2, 1 mF Monster Cable Capacitors in parrallel these speakers can amaze. I also took the liberty of using only monster cable to hook up my entire system for the best sound quality. The deck is a Pioneer 8500. All this together make for a system that sounds 50 times better then 2 JL 12's !!!!

Strength:

Build quality is amazing, looks more expensive than it is, SPL is great, SQ is fine for most

Weakness:

I wish they had used a better looking gasket around the lip, perhaps something that could cover up the screws for an ultra slick install

I bought this sub because I had bad luck with a used Infinity 1020W which sounded like crap (it was broken), and didn't want to have to worry about the sub breaking on me. I heard these were indestructable so I have the 10" a try. WOW. This thing is loud! I still think there is some more breaking in to do to see this beasts true colors, but so far I am very impressed. Sound quality isn't the best, not like the sub you have in your home theater, but when you get the amp and EQ dialed in right it can suprise you with how well it can blend in. As for SPL, this thing can get scary for just one 10". I put in Intergalactic by the BB after I played it on lower volumes for a few days, and I couldn't believe how loud it gets for just a single sub, and its so clear, NO DISTORTION. If you don't want to rattle your car to pieces all you need is one of these (a 12" might be the best bet for all listening) and an Alpine AccuClass amp (I have the 300 running this). I compared my setup to my friends JL 12W3 and a 300W Alpine amp, the Type R beat it in clarity and SQ at very high volumes, and certainly matched it for max SPL.

Infinity 1020W - nice looking sub with good build quality for the price but I think mine came broken from ebay so it never sounded right
