Model Reviewed: 99 FNX 1614

Strength:

They look great but more important is the sound. The tweeter is accurate and compliments the midbass well. Crossovers are high quality.

Weakness:

None that I can see

I spent all day trying to run wires through the boot of my door. After mounting the tweeter and putting in the speaker, I turned the radio on. (I am using a sony es cdx ca760x cd player) they sounded awesome. I recommend that you use some type of sound deadener inside the door. The bass is great and clarity is awesome. The cd player runs 52 x 4 and they get louder than I can turn them up with no distortion. Great deal especially since I got them for 130 shipped. Well worth the installation time and money. A perfect set of compoenents to compliment your top of the line sound system.

Strength:

Absolutely awesome sound. They don't sputter, they don't crack, they don't pop. The make it sound as if the band is playing right inside my car. I bought the fanatic X series, and I like them alot. The midrange is good, the tweeters are clean and clear without being ear piercing, and the crossover keeps the speakers playing only the right frequencies

Weakness:

the bass response isn't as deep as I expected, but I could care less b/c I'm running a subwoofer system as well. I have no complaints with these speakers.

I do not recomend going over about 50watts rms to these speakers. I run 50 to each one, and I almost never turn them up more than 2/3 of the way. I can run them to max volume without distortion, but it's just too damn loud. These speakers were priced at $247.95 and were worth every penny if you're an audiophile.
If you want great sounding music on your system and you're interested in sound quality, by all means, buy these speakers. If you just want a loud system that makes everyone look, then you could get that from some lower-priced kenwood or pioneer speakers.

Strength:

Above average sound for the price.
Made me realize how many recording studios put out crappy sounding CDs.

Weakness:

crossover uses cheesy little wires and you have to use a crimping tool to connect everything. NO BINDING POSTS!
(recommend soldering everthing)

I like the mylar domes a LOT better than the titanium/aluminum. If you expose your tweeters in a custom mounting (like me) and dont have them behind the door panels. The treble is MUCH to piercing. The mylars have a softer more mellow sound and in my opinion sound more lifelike. The midrange reproduction is good. Overall I am very satisfied with my speakers. I have heard polk and JL in similar configurations and they are about on par.

I have the tweets mounted about a foot from the midranges and no problems with seperation. Soundstaging is good. I realize this has less to do with the speaker quality and more to do with placement. :)

I put about 35Wrms into them and can crank all the way up to maximum. with no breakup or distortion. (its too damn loud though...).

Anything more than the rated power (50W) I would NOT recommend. (Too many rockford dealers overrate the products) At 75Wrms the speakers were harsh and distorted even at medium to loud volumes. I would note that the distortion was minor but compared the the clarity I achieved at 35W the sound was completly unnacceptable for the TINY volume increase I gained with the increased power.

Conclusion: Good audiophile speakers. Bad speakers if all you want to do is make people point at the loud obnoxious prick with the vibrating car.

I am gving the value rating a 4 due to the fact that they are great speakers for the cheap price.

The overall rating is a little low due the the cheapness of the crossover assembly (that really bugged me) if it wasnt for that it would get a 4.

After comparing the sound from some 500 dollar MB-Quart and 250 dollar Fanatic Q's, I realized that the MB-Quart was a really damn good speaker, but the Rockford was even better. Unfortunately, Acura's are poorly designed, so I had to get some Fanatic P's instead of Fanatic Q's, which still sound pretty good.
I got these speakers for 159, so it was a really good deal. They come with crossovers and different mounting brackets, and they produce a very well balanced sound. It provides great midrange and not too piercing treble.

This speaker is defintely worth the money, but if I had more room in my car I wouldn't hesitate to pay a little more to get the fanatic Q's.
