Strength:

* Good power handling * Good lower extension in a ported box * Very forgiving with excessive power * Can run straight from head unit as well as an amp Plays the folling music well: drum and bass rap/rnb rock/grunge with lower vocal range country/folk with lower range - Shania Twain/ Chrissy Hinde

Weakness:

Tweeters can be overbearing Woofer & 4 tweeters do not match Midrange quality is terrible Can play the following but not very well Female vocals like Madonna, where a more formal tone is done. Ministry of Sound and techno w/ a lot of upper treble. You have to play this loud for the bass, and this is where the treble causes pain in the ears. Cut the treble and the mids disappear completely.

These are a mixed bag; I've had them for almost a year and have been deciding whether I like them or not. In the end I built a ported box for 2 pairs which gives me the same output as 2 10" subs - and I'm quite happy with them. The following is what you can expect and hopefully will help with your buying decision. They will run from a headunit without a problem. However if the headunit doesn't have a bass boost, you'll probably not notice any bass. Headunits give about (15W RMS) which is about enough to shake mirrors if that is focused in the bass. The treble is ear-splitting and the tweeters don't match the woofer at different volumes. The "supertweeters" are a marketing gimmick IMHO. These can sound good if they face you head on - in a door for example. This should be taken into consideration because they normally face up on the rear parcel shelf. (you'll be listening to them from the side and their off axis response isn't that good). In this case some of the treble will reflect off the rear window, but the only advantage is bass. The bass is noticable on an infinite baffle (just sitting on the shelf) but not exceptional. Given a ported box, they can have a flat response down to 33Hz. T/S parameters (These may be inaccurate as I measured them myself) qts 0.418 qms 3.461 vas 15.89l qes 0.475 fs 40.26 re 3.217 Unfortunatly without a decent front set these speakers can draw the soundstage to the back because of their sheer power. One other (subjective) problem is that they tend to lack midrange, and tend to beam. Midrange can often sound extremely murky at loud volumes. How well they play certain music: Stuff like Madonna - especially Power of Goodbye (in fact the whole CD) will bring out the worst in the midrange. Female vocals don't work well. Stuff like Audioslave, but especially drum and bass (AK1200, Dieselboy) bring out the best in these speakers. The woofer and tweeters performs exceptionally where drums and cymbols are involved. Bass like Digweed, William Orbit and bass guitar (e.g. Shania Twain and other country sound go down just as well.) Rap/ RNB - e.g. Lil John ESB - get low, suit these well.

This is getting 3 stars both ways as I am essentially neutral - they can be brilliant or below average depending on taste and purpose.
