Midbass Low sensitivity

I've had these for a short time. I bought them off Ebay for $380. I mounted them in the stock locations of a 1995 BMW M3, which is the front kick panels (Good Lord an automobile manufacturer actually chose good speaker locations!). They are powered from an Autotek SX-475, 200 watts per channel. Even at 200 watts they are begging for more power. These speakers are built very nicely. They are made in Israel by Morel, for Phoenix Gold. The mids have a fairly shallow mounting depth, the tweeters are kind of big though. The voice coil on the mids is huge, 3", which is bigger than the voice coils in my subs (12" Type Rs) The crossover is also huge, it's the size of a small amplifier. There is only one crossover that handles everything. It has some blue lights in it that light up when you crank up the stereo. I did notice that when the stereo is turned up you get a fair amount of sound coming from the coils in the crossover, so you'll want to mount it where you can't hear it. These speakers sound very nice, really clear and detailed. They are a little lacking on midbass especially compared to my last speakers (Diamond Audio M6) which actually had too much midbass. I have a 13 band EQ to help equalize the sound, I had to bump it up some at 80hz to get any kind of midbass out of them. The tweeters are very nice but can be a little harsh, I have the treble adjusted down a couple decibles. They have a jumper on the crossover that is supposed to attenuate the tweeters by 2db, but I could hear absolutely no difference whether it was jumpered or not. These speakers are rated at 300 watts per channel, and after hearing them with 200 I would give them around 400-500 watts per channel. That may seem like a lot but it's only about 3-4 decibles louder than 200 watts. Bottom line, these speakers need power. Without equalization these speakers don't sound that great, they have too much treble and no midbass. This is what a flat frequency response sounds like, but flat doesn't always sound good. After tuning the EQ they really come to life. I spent a few hours messing around with the EQ and got them to where they sound very nice and even have some midbass. Music sounds great from rap to metal to classical. They have a lot of detail so you get to hear all of your music. I would recommend these if you are looking for speakers that are clear, detailed, and very neutral sounding, and if you have a lot of power to give them.
