MB Quart QM 5.25
Strength:
Bold in your face speakers!!! Blend in well with 8" inch midbass's ( make sure you have them crossed over correctly)
Weakness:
Can be a just a very very and I do mean very tad bit abrassive on the treble side, but nothing to impair your enjoyment of the listening experience. Barely any weaknesses. I have a pair MB Quart 5.25 QM Speaker's in my 1998 Volvo S70 supported by a pair MB Quart 8" Reference Midbass speakers. Let me tell you these speakers kick ass!!! Tweeters nice and defined. Awesome off axis response. You can hear everything in the music Nothing left in the shadows. The speakers are very clear and articulate. none I got these as a Christmas gift and they revolutionized the way I listen to music. I have a pair of the 215.61 powered by a Nakamichi PA1002 with QSD 4" components in the reaer powered by a different PA1002. My head unit is an Alpine 7998 and I have a Focal Utopia sub powered by an arc audio amp. I love my setup, I drove for over a year with nothing except the front Q's and the nak amp and it sounded great. The tweeters are bright but after reading other reviews and turning the crossover to -6 on the tweeter they sound amazing. I love these so much that I bought the S1030 home speakers for my stereo and they rock as well. The clarity of these speakers is unrivaled and when installed properly (dynamat and good wires!) the bass response is very true to source. Imaging is outstanding and the speakers seem to be able to handle all the power my amp can throw at them. I keep the gain set in the middle so as to avoid noise but even with the head unit turned to the max these babies show no sign of giving up or distorting. Strength:
The clarity at high power.
Weakness:
None yet These speakers are truly beautiful. I have 2 pairs in my 300M with a JL 300x4 amp. Anyone who claims MB Quart's tweeters are harsh had them improperly installed. Done correctly these speakers are perfect! |

None These are amazing speakers. I have the 215 5 1/4 inch model and they put out as much mid bass as my 6 1/2 inch focal polykevlars (maybe more). They are every bit as good as the polykevlars and probably then some. I think they are rivaled only by the Focal Utopia, high-end ADS, and Dynaudio. They are one of the finest set of car speakers money can buy. The imaging is unbelievable. I too set my crossovers to -6db. The tweeters on this setting are perfect and not overly bright. I am told this is the proper setting for a single mid driver. I have no choice but to give them my highest recommendation. You can''t go wrong. Similar Products Used: None |

midbass, imaging, dynamic capability.
Weakness:
tweeter needs to be tuned down. Wonderful speakers. The first thing that becomes obvious when listening for Q''s is the abundant midbass. The 215.61 set puts out far more midbass than other 6.5" speakers. Tweeter does need to be tuned, but when it is tuned, the upper range is far more accurate out of the titanium dome that other soft domes on the market. Wonderful imaging and depth. Very transparent and take power well. I have had Focal Utopia''s.... They DON''T compare. Midbass is non existant in Focal. Strength:
Purest sounding speakers. These units simply cleaned house with my very expensive "audiophile" home speakers. They imaged far better than a 4000 dollar speaker system when put in simple non-ideal boxes for the initial sound quality test! The tweeter had to be reset to "-6dB" setting to match reference system.
Weakness:
Factory shipped with tweeter in "0dB" position. Incorrect with single midbass driver. Use "-6dB" setting when used out of the box with ONE midbass driver per tweeter. Only use the "0dB" setting when you purchase the OPTIONAL MIDBASS COMPANION SET! C''mon Quart sales people!! What are you doing to your product!!! -6dB tweeter setting is what the system should be shipped at! Best speaker. Make sure you place the tweeter setting to "-6dB" on the crossover. This is the proper setting for use with one midbass driver per tweeter. MB Quart offers a secondary set of midbass drivers to complement the existing "Q" set tweeter. That is, one tweeter is capable of complementing two midbass drivers wired in parallel. When you add this additional midbass driver in parallel with original, you will obtain a 6 dB gain which thusly matches the factory tweeter setting of "0dB". If you are only using one midbass driver with the "Q" series... you MUST set the tweeter to "-6dB" for proper balance. MB Quart unfortunately ships the system with the tweeter at the 0dB setting which makes them speaker system sound too bright. If you are opting for Focal or others because the "Q''s" hurt your ears.. make sure that the listening room has the tweeter programmed properly; -6dB!!!!!! Similar Products Used: Focal |

Strength:
Off axis performance! They compensate poor factory speaker locations well. Very clear and dynamic performance! Excellent sound and construction quality.
Weakness:
The tweeters can be abrassive on axis. I would not advise installing them close to your ears. I needed a component set to compensate high and mid frequencies in poor speaker locations. I used my factory locations in my 99 Honda Accord. The 1 inch tweeter was placed in the dash and the midrange was placed in the door. I am very impressed with the pure sound quality of these speakers. Music from cd's are very transparent. High frequencies are very dynamic! Lyrics and instruments can be heard from quite a distance from my vehicle! Mb Quart tweeters are obviously designed for off axis performance. They sound perfect in the dash. If placed closer to your ears, your hearing could be compromised. To my surprise, at very high volumes, the sound was not harsh but LOUD! These speakers work very well in a reference audiophile system. Similar Products Used: Oz Audio. Both have excellent sound quality! Oz tweeters are much smoother on axis. Depending on where you plan to install components, will help you deide between the 2. |

Strength:
Great highs, very good crossover.
Weakness:
Lack of bass? (this shouldn't really be a negative aspect though) I purchased these speakers for use in a pair of custom home speakers I am building. Although I have not finished the cabinets yet, I can tell that these are great speakers. The bass response is not all that deep, but, no 6.5" is going to produce much under 60hz. The titanium tweeter is a bit bright, but as long as it is mounted propery, and the crossover is set to your liking, they will be ok. The midrange driver produces excellent vocals and acoustic instrumentals really jump out of this driver. Don't get me wrong, they sound great with some heavy grungy Pearl Jam or Led Zepplin as well. Strength:
Really accurate when allowed sufficient space to breath in. Great off-axis response, thus enabling it to be mounted in places low down and without any tilt.
Weakness:
Not much that 'meets the ear' ! Nice sounding product, nothing wrong with it. Very subjective differences as compared to like products. I like Illusion better cos I got them at a great price:) Similar Products Used: Illusion audio ND 8.1, 5.1. The Illusion audio was neck to neck with these guys although they were operating out of a smaller rear space. Also, I feel that the Illusion audio had a better low-end extension. |
