Alpine SPX-177R
Strength:
Good crossovers allow good soundstage.
Weakness:
For the price I paid I can't think of a single weakness really, aside from how fussy the speakers are at being set up right. They really do not tolerate the gain being set too high - but if you use a 1khz test tone to set them up, you should have no problems at all. Ignore the review that said the treble with these speakers are harsh and that the woofers can't take the punch. I suspect that he didn't set them up properly - if the gains aren't set up right they don't sound very good, I agree. But with the gains and crossovers set up properly, they are completely different and sound incredible. They do punch very hard with 80hz HPF, and don't distort at all, and are very accurate - crisp and clear - not muddy at all. The tweeters are very detailed and are "sweet" rather than "sharp" - they're easy and pleasant to listen to.
