Alpine Kappa Perfect 6.1 Speakers

Alpine Kappa Perfect 6.1 Speakers

DESCRIPTION

Infinity Systems introduces the Kappa Perfect 6.5" Component Speaker System. This product features a deep-anodized aluminum woofer cone that ensures incredible detail and accuracy. This material holds its shape regardless of output level, unlike more commonly used materials, such as polypropylene. An incredible 1" deep anodized aluminum tweeter with rubber surround is used in the Perfect 6.1 to deliver incredible accuracy and detail. In addition, this edge-driven dome tweeter will handle plenty of power, making the 6.1 a great choice for the enthusiast looking for a system that will sound every bit as good at high output levels as at moderate levels.

Other features of this product include a precision outboard crossover using a Linquitz-Riley acoustic alignment. This is used to precisely divide frequencies between the mid-woofer and tweeter. The tweeter crossover frequency is set at 3.5kHz, facilitating exceptional mid-woofer to tweeter transition. This well-executed crossover also provides the ability to adjust tweeter level, allowing you to maximize system performance and imaging based on location.

Strength:

Incredible clarity at insane volumes, but small enough to fit most doors. Very nice looking.

Weakness:

Like others have said, the tweeters are too bright. I've cut them back at the crossover (-4db) and cut the entire crossover range (3.5khz and up) down by 5db at the head unit and it's just OK. Looking to move the tweets down closer to the subs to see if that cures it completely.
Green colour for the crossover? Daft decision, it's an ugly colour and discourages showing it off.

I've had a set of 3-way Infinity Betas in my various vehicles for over 15 years. They have moved from vehicle to vehicle as I changed, and they were amazingly good, I have given them an incredible thrashing over the years, driven via an Alpine CDA-7998R and a bridged Alpine MRV F505 through an aftermarket crossover. I had an Alpine F405 driving rear fill 6x9s, and an Alpine MRV100 driving the subwoofer.
But I have another new vehicle and the Beta subs were beginning to rattle and the mids had bad hinges and one cone had a crack in it, so I finally conceded that their time was up. I listened to a bunch of speakers in the shop but when I heard the Kappas, it was love at first sound.

I was concerned that it would take a very special pair of speakers to replace the amazing volume, quality and depth of sound produced from the Betas, but I needn't have worried, the Kappa Perfects are incredible. In fact my biggest problem at the moment is that they can be driven so much harder and remain crisp and clear that my old trusty MRV F505 can't cope, it overheats and shuts itself down (extensive testing has proved that the amp is the limitation), so atm I've just turned the gains down a bit. A new amp in in the works, which will complete the best install I've done, with the most incredible car stereo speakers I've ever heard. I can't recommend these highly enough, just remember that the tweets have to be cut back.

Absolutely awesome. The best componet speakers i have ever heard. I read reviews about them being a bit to sharp in the high range of the tweeter, but personally it's not too extreme. Nothing that setting up the filters on your amp can't solve.
I paid 475 in the U.K. for these, thats about 850 u.s. And still worth the money.
Powered by an Alpine MRV-F545. Not the bast amp in the world but the speakers certainly make it sound like one.

* Clarity * Loudness * RMS * Bass

Weakness:

* Takes a while to break in.. * The crossover is huge! It deff needs to be smaller... * Installation was a little bit of a pain due to finding a spot for the huge crossover..

I customly put them in a 2000 Honda Civic EX and at first I wasn't pleased cause the tweeters sounded TOO high but after a couple of months and breaking in the speakers they started to come along....I'm running the speakers from a Clarion's DRX9375R deck to a MTX Thunder 404 amplifier (4 channel, 400 watts) I would deff recomend these speakers! They are looooooud!!

Incredible clarity, no distortion, loud as hell!

Weakness:

The only thing I could complain about would be the tweets being a slight too weak compared to the speakers. Would be better if they had more powerful tweeters, but still great as they are.

These speakers are incredible! The best component set I've ever bought. I buy all Infinity speakers now that I have realized how good they are. These are by far the best component set I've bought yet and I have been through about 7 sets now(I have a top ranking SQ setup which has placed first in many competitions.)

Strength:

Loud highs, great for rap music or bass cds where you need the treble in your face. Dosn't need much power at all.

Weakness:

No midbass untill a DSP was installed. Don't put too much power to these, i have a audiobahn pushing 120 watts to the each set and they just scream

These speakers are great for certian music. I installed these to get rid of my polk momo compent set. They are a hell of a lot louder than the polks but they don't have the mid bass i was looking for.. Well i got a pioneer DSP (newest model) and the mid bass came way out! Huge huge huge difference, I don't even have subs running any more since i have installed these with the dsp.

Strength:

They are reliable. Fairly efficient. They can handle good clean amounts of power. Don't abuse them and try to get them to play mids that are out of their range, they simply will not do it. Can sound very good at times with the right kind of music that has been recorded with good engineering. Example[ Tears for fears-everybody wants to rule the world]

Weakness:

Baskets are too thick for all practicality. Lack of lower midbass. retail cost is insane. tad bit too bright. If you are set on getting these speakers consider your other options. There are other speakers that are just as expensive and cheaper as well that sound better than these speakers. Do not buy them retail[highway robbery]. If you have the money to buy them retail you can buy a much finer set of speakers than these off the internet or ebay[example:Focal utopia's]. If you don't have the money to buy them retail consider other speakers such as Diamond Hex's or Focal polykevlar and polyglass.................As for me I'm saving my money to buy some SEAS-lotus components

When I first purchased these components I thought they were some of the finest on the market. I was wrong, but they are definately an upgrade from factory speakers. These speakers fit very well in my 92 toyota camry housings in the doors and this car came with tweeter mounts as well and the tweeters seemed like they were made for this car from the way they installed. Some people will find the baskets to these speakers too thick, making it hard to get them in the doors as deep as maybe some people with different cars may need to get them in order to prevent the excursion of the speakers from hitting their factory grilles and damaging the cones, surrounds, and voice coils. I have no idea why they made such impractical basket construction. These little drivers are built like tanks ,but they don't perform like them. Don't get me wrong they sound pretty good. It's just that you will find that they are lacking in the lower midbass frequencies like 60-80 hertz[totally non-existant]. At least the specs are accurate in that regard. I've never seen a set of 6.5 component driver specs list a range that only go to 75 hertz. Most components that are much cheaper in price and design will go lower than 75 hertz. These speakers do well around 100 -125 hertz, but I like more midbass and the sound imaging in my doors isnt all that great anyway. The highs are very clear and a little too bright[might be too harsh for some people] for my taste. The same sound will be found within the mids to a degree as well due to the aluminum cones. There is some coloration in the music from the material of these speakers' cones and tweeter domes. All in all a decent set of components that are very clear[a little too bright], but don't live up to a perfect description by any means.

Strength:

The mid and highs are amazing. The vocals seem to come from below my rear view mirrors. The placement ot the tweeters definitely improved th SQ. It is as good, if not better than my friend's Diamond Audio. I am powering the perfects with JBL 180.2, Awesome combination. A JBL 600.1 is powering my Kicker S12A Solobaric. I have no rear fill. Don't need them man!

Weakness:

The mid-range's mounting depth. Crossover is large. But the SQ more than compensted all these.

I posted the first review. I changed my car to another Mitsubishi, and transfered my Perfect 6.1. Lo n behold- the stereo imaging is fabulous! I had the mids mounted on the stock door location, while the tweeters were placed at the kick panel, firing diagonally upwards to the rear view mirror. I almost cried when I played Diana Krall's cd. U gotta try it.

I bought these to match upto my Kenwood eXcelon KAC-X501F 4 channel amp and eXcelon KDC-X915 deck. They are beautiful components, and match well with Infinity Kappa Perfect 10.1 subs. While they can be made to play loud, they are very good for sound quality applications when matched with the correct electronics.
