Strength:

With a new crossover, midrange & high frequency details are acceptable.

Weakness:

Bass, however 3.5 inches gives midrange details.

I noted the less than pleasing performance on another review, used sbenedict4 as my email address. I elected to replace the Infinity junk crossover resulting in superior results. First, use air core inductors and good polypropelene capacitors to wake these speakers up. Tweeter- Start with a 4.7uF cap in series with the tweeter (+) lead (audio in one side of capacitor, tweeter connected to the other side of capacitor). Then, install a .55uH inductor from (+) to (-) on the 'tweeter side' of the cap. Next, install a 4 to 6 ohm Mills or other quality resistor between the lead from the inductor & capacitor junction to the tweeter (+) terminal. 4 Ohms removes the 'screaching' sound, 6 ohms tames it to somewhat mild. Woofer: install a .3uF inductor in the speaker (+) lead (or in series, ie just another way to explain). Install a 9.1uF from the speaker (+) to the speaker (-). This crossover is only a two way, but far superior to the Infinity crossover. The speaker sounds well controlled, detailed and balanced. Infinity should spend another $5 on the crossovers and ship a quality product. With the above changes, I will rerate the speaker performance as if the new crossover came with the speaker set.

Strength:

Tweeter is not muddy, but certainly 'low-end'.

Weakness:

Bass is extremely limited. Audax 4" smokes this Infinity.

These list for $120, I paid $57 and still way overpriced. The speakers are made in China, obviously low-end. The sound is better defined over a $10 OEM speaker, but for $57!!!! Even the crossover is only a second order on the mid/bass and unbelievable first order on the tweeter. Cheap ferrite inductor and 'sinful' electrolytic capacitors- you have to be kidding! Summary, look elsewhere. These are cheap speakers with a lot of hipe and low performance. Must cost Infinity $6 a pair. Nice job Infinity, your marketing even 'sucked' me in.

Strength:

Clear vocals, good mids for a 3.5". I have them on a mtx5400X and they handle the power without any trouble.

Weakness:

nothing major, I had to use 3.5s. The mounting tabs could be bigger and the basket could be heavier.

i paid about 80 for mine and would recommend them highly to anyone unlucky enough to have to use speakers this size.

Strength:

super high highs. Why bother with seporates when you can get a 75 dollar speaker that fits in the factory hole and sounds just as good?

Weakness:

even with huge 100w bass blockers these speakers can't even handle deck power. If you put any type of lower frequencies upfront the speakers will sound like they are falling apart. (this is tough, considering i have a 6 speaker system and my mids in the door are running off the same channel as the 3.5's) I don't have money/time for a cross over network, and i figured that installing bass blockers 1/2 the size of the speakers would do the trick...DIDN'T help.

If your a high's junky, Infinity is awesome for the price. Not much else you can do with 3.5" hole.

actually the infinity reference speakers at 35 bucks sounded just as good to me, but I went with the kappa for some unknown reason.

Strength:

very loud for a 3 1/2"
more bass than any other 3 i've use
handles more power than most 3"s

Weakness:

it's a 3 1/2"

I paid about $70 for mine and i liked it when i had it. I had them running with 37.5 watts apiece off a rockford400@4 and they sounded nice.
If you have the time make some nice kickpanels or cut some holes in your door. There is NO upfront bass with 3's. But if you have to get 3 1/2's get these there worth it (for 3 1/2") :)

Model Reviewed: 1999 and 1997

Strength:

Easily the best coaxial 3 1/2
Good freq. response for its size
Excellent looks
Very good sound overall for the 3 1/2 speaker size

Weakness:

Compared to all speakers, it has little to no bass response and low powerhandling, but it is a 3 1/2 and quite simply not capable of either one.

A tad on the bright side
Quite expensive for a 3 1/2

Excellent 3 1/2. The newer model is slightly louder/brighter than the pure silk tweeter model, but I like it better overall. Very expensive for a 3 1/2, however.

I have used both the 1997 and 1999 models of this speaker, and I was quite pleased with both.
