Strength:
Great all the way around. Low $$$
Weakness:
Watch out for on /off radars!
Works great! Best for the $$$. This is for people who are just going 10-15 over speed limit on flat roads.

Strength:
You get what you paid for! Can't get lost looking for a store w/auto doors it will find that for you....
Weakness:
Simply doesn't work!!!! Doesn't pickup up any po-crusiers! okey so far this thing hasn't saved my butt yet. i paid $23 for it new at Schucks. That same day i had one cop blairing his light n all and the thing didn't even beep! Later that night i drove straight past a hidden unmarked waiting and the dang thing didn't even go off! Mid-day i drove right past a State Patrol and quickly unpluged and hid the thing. What a piece of crap. The only time it goes off is when i drive past stores and hospitals. It was a rip off!!! |

Strength:
Performs well when cops are stopped and using Ka,x, or K technology radar detectors. Will usually pickup the signal a good 1/4 mile to 1.5 miles away with increasing intensity as you get closer. Has saved my ass from many tickets...For long straight highway, this unit works awesome, will detect any cop easily. For the $$ you cant go wrong.
Weakness:
Of course laser technology is sometimes a problem with this detector, if the cops use the on and off function, user will have to learn that intermitten beeps does not mean the unit is malfunctioning, but simply picking up the random pulses. Took me a while to trust this....Also, for speed traps in roads with alot of hills, this unit does not detect well over the hills....you will be forced to slow down over the hills or suffer the consequences of a good ticket....This, is what seems to be this units biggest downfall! I think this radar detector is great for the price. It takes a while to get used to the range and limitations, but after the breakin period can be a useful tool to get the cops off your back.... Strength:
inexpensive, adequate range, works with the more difficult to detect Ka band.
Weakness:
VG2 mode has to be turned on manually other than that none for the price. I bought the de1730 mainly for trips back and forth from work and so far its worked fine..my first day it detected 2 Ka band equiped cruisers well outside of visual range(close to a 1/4mi.).And gets less False alerts than my previous more expensive detector. The LED lights are easy to learn 1 for X,1 for K and both for Ka also signal strength meter..don't worry about laser, its not common and cause no detector works well against it regardless of price! But the 1730 does have 360degree laser protection as well. The 1730 is fine if you only drift 10-15mph over the limit and don't do lots of open highway driving where you might need the added range of more expensive units..but the 1730 does work! good price good alert ok distance
Weakness:
none so far i bought a 1730 radar detector at wal mart because it was the best price then i learned what all the signals mean and so far it seems ok it never beebs by atomatic door and it is really quite except when it goes by cops who have radar on or laser One night me and my friend were going down this road we were flying like 75 in a 35 when we were racing k band came on and the sencer came on i hit my brakes to slow down fast my friend right behind me the signal grew stronger still no cops i was like what a pice of crap probly picking up a cb or something then i looked up there was a under cover cop sitting lights off i soon passed him i thought holy crap if i was to get caught done i wasent goiong to be driving for a while so i was proud with this device it picked him up at halk a mile see what most people dont when your 1730 dosent go off when a cop goes by that dosent mean it broken if a cop dosent have any laser or radar on no fuzz buster will work if you go by a cop and it dosent go off that means hes probly just driving not looking for speeders. |

whistler 1730
Strength:
nice styling, rear detection (if it worked).
Weakness:
does not work I had a whistler in a previous vehicle and was very pleased with it's detection abilities. This one however has worse radar detection than I do! I have never had the alert sound before I see the source. The kind of distance I'm talking about is in the neighborhood of 100 yrds. I am very disapointed. |

Strength:
False alarms, different noises, volume control, when it actually worked right, auto shutoff (shuts off after 3 hours without use in case you accidently left it on).
Weakness:
False alarms, alarm noises aren't distinct enough to tell the difference without looking at the lights, lights aren't bright enough during the day, have to look closely to tell the difference and sometimes you have to put your hand over it just to see the lights. No memory settings, but what do I expect for 50 bucks, a basic rip off? I can usually see where the radar is before it goes off.. less than a 1/4 mile range usually with radar. 1/2 mile with safety if your lucky it works!! Ok I know I've only had this product for less than a month, but this thing sucks. When I first bought it, I thought it was a good one because it detected all the safety bands and stuff. After a week, it suddenly stopped working correctly and I started getting multiple false alarms when I'd pass by automatic doors like Target, Walmart, etc. and it would be going off. The other day there was a shrieff near me, the thing didn't even beep once. I got all scared because I forgot to put the cloaking on because he suddenly turned around and started following me, so I just unplugged it in case he noticed I had been giving off a signal indicating I had a radar detector. Since that day... I've decided to return the unit and look for an Escort, Bel, V1, or Cobra. All the reviews here are mixed about all those models, so I'm not sure which one of those to buy I have a feeling I'll buy a Cobra or Bel since there the cheapest. The City mode on this unit sucks, nothing changes when u press the button, I don't know why? Its good if you want to get ripped off by 50 bucks, but when your a teenager looking for one, you go for what is cheapest and what you think works. Similar Products Used: None |

Strength:
Inexpensive, (however for a few bucks more, Best Buy will credit the full purchase price toward a more expensive unit for the first 2 years) Works great for a low price!
Weakness:
None, so far. An excellent unit for the price. Doesn''t have all the bells and whistles, but seems to spot the radar traps wherever I go. The City button keeps false reports to a minimum and I am very pleased. |
