Strength:
Cheap, only $75
Weakness:
Fair detection range, cannot be programmed. The thing will break sooner or later. Well, the thing worked pretty well when I first got it. The detection was fair, enough to avoid cops running K-band traps on the highway and the rural road near where I live, if you were quick enough to get on the brakes ASAP. However, a bunch of time when I was speeding with another car, they would slow down before me because their detector had better range. The 1660 cut it pretty close, too close. One day I didn''t slow down fast enough and got a ticket (I was able to slow a little, but not enough). The laser detection worked as well, although it didn''t really help you any (when it goes off you''ve already been clocked). But that''s a problem with any laser detector. The display was very bright and clear, and the talking voice was pretty cool (IMO anyway). The really annoying thing about this detector was that you couldn''t program any of the bands off it. So even though none of police use X-band around here, the stupid thing still detects it, and therefore went off at every stupid automatic door in town. But I could live with all that junk. What I couldn''t live with was the fact that after 9 months, the speaker shorted out and the detector couldn''t do its job anymore. This is a not an isolated problem, I have heard from other owners of the same thing happening, So I gleefuly threw the thing in the nearest trash can, and went out and dropped $300 on an Passport 8500. 4X as much hurts, but the 8500 is a dream come true for me (and a thorn in the side of all V1 fans). So, you want an annoying radar detector that will last you 6-12 months for a little bit of money, buy this one. Want a real detector, get an 8500. Similar Products Used: Escort Passport 8500 |
