Model Reviewed: Whistler DE1655

Strength:

Good alert times on all normal X/K/KA bands with decent alert times on laser.

Weakness:

offers no protection against KA Band DSP and Laser Pulse radar.

I bought this Whistler 1655 on eBay after reading some reveiws and comparing prices. I must say that I have seen some improvement from just using the eyes but if your ever caught off guard like with KA DSP Radar you are definitly hosed! You won't see any results until they have you. other than that there are quite a few false alarms but overall the X/K/KA regular bands work well Laser on the other hand won't alert you until it's too late as well. Just recently my speaker failed so now I only have visual detection alerts which is not really so bad!!!

Strength:

"city mode" rejects majority of civilian radar sources such as Airports, etc. Female Voice alerts differentiates modes Laser detection front and rear 360 degree radar detection works price (refurb) $35.00!!! Whistler name brand

Weakness:

the volume knob potentiometer gets "dirty" laser capability unknown (as of now)

I bought this unit refurb''''d at UBID.COM, mainly because it was so cheap. I knew Whistler was better than alot of crap they sell at Walmart. I haven''''t gotten a ticket since I bought this, while without a detector I got 3 in one month! Decent radar detection up to 1.5 miles. Unknown laser detection. Voice alerts let you distinguish between airports and the police. One problem I have discovered is that the volume control potentiometer gets "dirty". I had to disassemble the unit and spray some contact cleaner in there. It fixed it for a while, then it got dirty again, so I gave up. I quit adjusting the volume and it doesn''''t bother me much.
