This might be a great detector but the one I received from Escort had a major firmware bug which made it boot up totally blind to Ka band. At point blank range with a Scottsdale Photo Radar van which was operating and taking pictures of speeders, the Solo S2 did not see the presence of Ka UNTIL I pressed the "M" button. Then, ten seconds later it went berserk. After shielding the unit for five minutes, it was again unable to see the Ka radar which was present with enough power at that range to cook a ham. Not only is this bug probably present in hundreds of units but it indicates that the factory does not even test these units before they are shipped. |

Strength:
Superior detection capabilities. Loaded with customizable features. Nice design. As soon as its placed on windshield its working!
Weakness:
Highly priced but worth every cent. Even my wife just made me buy her one. Basically the Escort S2 is the best cordless detector you can buy. I've owned the Escort S2 for a few weeks now and I must say I am quiet impressed. The unit gives LONG range warning so that it does what its designed to do, eliminate speeding tickets. The unit has tons of features overall and I am happy to say its well worth the money, you will not be sorry you purchased this product. |

Ready to use, no setup required. Range is superb.
Weakness:
Pricey, but worth it!!! Awesome design. Virtually undetectable unless the trooper has one himself and peeks in your window as he passes you by. Comes straight from the factory ready to use. Excellent, two thumbs up. |

Expensive, but you get what you pay for. I purchased this unit to help decide between the V1, Passport 8500, and it. I found it exceptional in city mode, maybe even better than the very sensitive 8500, and way better than the forever falsing V1. In highway mode, it does give up a little sensitivity to the 8500 and V1, but it's not as detrimental to highway use as you'd think, still giving plenty of warning time, and working very well around curves on the backroads. I would say it outperformed the original 7500 on the highway in everything but K band sensitivity. Ka performance is pretty dang good also in actual use, and I picked up little blips of a Ka instant on gun working the traffic ahead from about 2.2 miles away! I'm not sure that the 8500 or V1 would have done much better under the same conditions, they only seemed to have an edge in range with always on radar. By the time I got turned around to make another pass at this trooper, he had already stopped a couple of cars so I didn't get a direct comparison with the V1 or 8500 under these conditions. I actually preferred it's form factor to the 8500 (which I ended up with), the LCD readout was a plus, practically invisible from behind through my tinted rear window at night. And no other cars in the pack would have expected a radar detector with a blue LCD under the rearview mirror anyway. And I didn't have any problems reading it during the day due to the adjustable contrast, and of course you can use Escort's remote hardwire with it. If Escort had only given it the 8500's superior sensitivity when used with a hardwire I would have kept it. I can't imagine anyone but a bonafide speed demon being displeased with the performance of this particular detector, it's an attractive wonderful little unit, and an amazing performer compared to the previous Solo.
