Passport 7500
Strength:
Seems to filter out unwanted radar frequencies, better then Bel. Which is a big plus!!!
Weakness:
Does not seem to have the greatest range. Paid $229 for this. I personally think that the Bel had better range but the Bel just seemed to pick up alot more false alarms. I bought 2 Bels and both seemed to break on me within 2 years, bad luck I guess. The passport does seem like it was made more sturdy and it is a little more slimmer than the Bel's. Escort sells an optional cord to hardwire it in your car for $30 buck, which I think is a rip off....But I think I will order it anyway because the coiled wire that it comes with seems to get in the way. Overall if you want a radar detector with better range go with something else, but if you want a radar detector that can filter out a lot of false alarms then go with the Passport. Strength:
Not much falsing except for x-band. Lots of features and excellent ergonomics.
Weakness:
None yet. I am quite pleased with this unit especially since I bought it for $59 at a pawn shop. How lucky. It is a great unit. Similar Products Used: Bel 525i - The Bel isn't even in the same class and falses too much. |

SOLO
Strength:
None
Weakness:
Can be detected by VG-2 even though company says it can not! My SOLO was detected & I was issued a ticket for its use in Virginia recently. I notified ESCORT, sent them a copy of the ticket, and they would not even reply. Similar Products Used: None |

Strength:
small, auto mute, fairly easy to program
Weakness:
no directional, no number of sources (that expert mode stinks..how can ya read that?) I have the 7500 in my wifes car, a Valentine One in mine. I drive both cars around the same areas very often and have seen radar in exactly the same traps in both cars (same make car too). The 7500 does a decent job. Certainly not the best. Its giving me a little warning bleep when i later find out over a hill there was a cop was there...and thats the kind of sensitivity I need. In comparison to the V1, the amount of time warning is probably only slightly longer. Of course, that could mean the difference between a ticket or not. Personally, I think the sensitivity on most of these things is pretty close. I would say for 200 bucks your overpaying a little bit. Supposedly the 8500 is much better, so I dont know why you wouldnt get the better one. Once you get a Valentine..i cant imagine going with any other even though there are some capable detectors out there. Similar Products Used: valentine 1 |

MOST ALL INFORCERS ARE GOING TO KA BAND THIS UNIT HAS LITTLE KA BAND I BOUGHT THE 7500 ESCORT BECAUSE OF THE NAME I HAVE NEVER USED ONE BEFOR BUT I HAD A GIFT CHECK FOR THE AMOUNT SO I GOT ME ONE. I HAVE HAD A BEL BEFOR AND I LOVED IT BUT BESTBUY DID NOT CARRY. TO GET TO THE POINT THE 7500 NEEDS A RECALL ON IT, IT HAS ALMOST NO [KA] DETECTION I KNOW THIS BECAUSE I GOT CAUGHT BY A CALI CHP ,BY THE TIME THE DETECTOR WENT OFF IT WAS WAY TO LATE FOR ME TO EVEN THINK OF SLOWING DOWN THIS IS AN UNEXCEPTABLE RADAR DETECTOR!!!AND IT WASNT AN INSTANT ON DETECTION EITHER. KA DETECTION SUCKS,SUCKS,SUCKS!! All the State Troopers in KY use Ka band and this thing does not go off until you are 20 feet from them. I bought this detector 1 month before the 8500 came out (no warning). The 8500 has a supposed 200% increase in Ka detection. Just my luck. Too bad there isn't a trade in program for situations like this. If anyone wants to buy it from me, let me know. Strength:
Excellent range, supurb sensitivity especially in K and X bands, customization is a nice option to have and is simple to use, durable, LED display is readable even in bright sunlight, alerts are loud and distinct. The multiple band display is useful
Weakness:
KA could be a little stronger, The cord is a little bulky I also considered the V1, but the $400 price tag completely turned me off. As far as i am concerned, the 7500 is an excellent value, and packs a lot of features and capabilities into a moderately priced detector. Don't spend $90 on a cheap detector, the 7500 makes the extra money very worth while. Similar Products Used: None |

Strength:
Great features, LOUD alarms, user defineable operation
Weakness:
nothing yet The only detector that was tested by a buddy of mine with local State Police, and found that instant on alarms were accurate within .5 mi. As far as the telephone plug and the $30 hardwire kit, escort can keep it, I made my own for about .75 If any owners want to know how, email me and I will show you... This is just a reply to a review below! One reviewer talks about the direcional arrows on the Valentine V1. If you have never used the Valentine, dont bother talking about it. All you guys that are using the Escorts,Unidens,Bel or the Cobra's YOU DONT KNOW WHAT YOU ARE MISSING. The directional arrows are one of the key features of the Valentine. Where is the threat coming from? Am I still in danger of being busted? Well the Valentine tells you all this, in fact it tells you alot sooner also!
Weakness:
None So guys if you have never used the Valentine hands on, dont bother talking about the V1! It's a shame that there are people outhere that dare take the risk of using anything else then the V1. If you can afford to drive fas then how can you not afford the V1? Similar Products Used: None |
