Model Reviewed: CHEVROLET CORVETTE Z06

Strength:

1. Nice looking sleek appearance
2. Unit is expandable. A lot of optional equipment will plug n play with this head unit
3. Sound is really good and able to be enhanced with built-in equalizer
4. Screen motorized and puts itself away into the dash for a clean look when not in use.
5. Seems well made, not cheap junk plastic that will fall apart in 6 months.
6. Serviceable almost anywhere

Weakness:

Where do I start?
I will NEVER purchase an aftermarket head unit that does not have the freakin VOLUME buttons on the damn thing. HELLO McFly???? You ALIVE over there in Japan? The whole unit revolves around some 99 cent remote which I had to replace twice now & still have issues.
1. Volume, Volume buttons are not on the head unit anywhere. I searched Google & seeing other help type Q & A sites a lot of people have the same problem. Remote buttons go bad or contacts wear out in the remote & it leaves you completely screwed with almost no hope of solving the problem.
2. Again, the screen motor is very weak, mine is broken & will not motor in our out or tilt up or down so I grab the screen on the sides &pull it out manually & push it back in when I park the car
3. Trim ring, wiggles, vibration from the engine makes it buzz sometimes because while it clicks in & is tight meaning it won’t fall off, it’s not tight enough not to vibrate at certain RPM's & makes a weird buzzing noise.
4. Control unit in the trunk is MASSIVE. That brain box as I call it is way too big. There is no need in the world for that part to be that huge. My Cisco routers & firewalls at work are damn near the same size. Thing is like rack mountable size. With today's technology, that brain box should be about the size of the head unit itself.
5. Face plate is loose & makes noise from the engine vibrations in the car. This also creates a buzzing sound at idle. It pulls off rather easy & pushes back on easy but that annoying buzzing sound from it will drive you crazy after a while.
6. Remote control itself controls damn near the entire unit & seems cheap & is very tiny, hard to hold in your hand & use. Surface of remote is super smooth & slips out of your hand constantly. There are only a few things that the head unit is capable of doing by itself. Stick a cd in it & it will auto play & you can FFwd and Rwd through the song tracks, eject & turn the unit on and off.

Overall the unit itself is a good unit. The whole down side to this is that the entire unit depends 100% on the remote. If you start having remote problems the future looks pretty grim for you my friend. It has a nice sleek look but I would rather have more buttons crowding the front for functionality rather than loose the remote capabilities and have an automatic cd player (that’s the mode my head unit is stuck in at the present time and I cannot change out of it to the stereo or whatever) that you can’t change the volume of and can’t watch movies, can’t listen to the radio, cannot adjust the EQ or do absolutely anything because mine happens to be stuck in CD/DVD mode. I have bought 3 new remotes and now the unit has an issue where it does not matter if I have a new remote or not, the unit will not accept the signal from the remote so its completely shot and not worth sinking a dime into in order to replace it. Color of the unit a metallic gray and black looks very attractive. Sound quality is very good but would be better if I could adjust the DVD and the DSP's and so on and so on. It will never match any cars interior because it has curves of its own. Meaning that it will always look like an aftermarket head unit from its outer face shape. Has a boxy look to it and not a founded style of face and does not flush mount with the trim ring. Unit sticks out 1/2 to 1/4 of an inch past the trim ring. Face plate is not snug and tight, it is tight enough not to fall off for any reason but it vibrates and makes noise when car is at idle and the trim ring same complaint, while it won’t fall off ever it vibrates at low engine RPM's because it’s not a super snug fit. The expandability of the unit is phenomenal, I have 1 monster amp connected to it to drive 2 big subs in the trunk and the sound is awesome (well was when I could listen to things but now the unit is frozen in CD/DVD mode and the volume is up rather loud and I have to turn the unit off completely if I get a phone call or valet park etc.) Color of the unit is good, would match a lot of car interiors.
I would rate this unit at a 1 ½ out of 5 because the whole premise is that if you are going to invest a few thousand dollars into this unit, you expect it to last you quite a long time. I don’t like to throw money away like everyone else, so I expect things that I invest in to last me a long time and hold up . This unit consistently lets me down and while it came in the car when I bought it, has caused me nothing but grief and aggravation since day one. Make your own call based on your own judgment but honestly I would look more closely at units that do not need the remote to work. Or at least all of the more basic functions not require a remote. Volume, change modes from AM to FM to CD player to DVD player to any auxiliary device to satellite module etc. change radio stations, and all the basics.
What would solve these problems and make this unit 100 times better in my opinion is that if the unit were a touch screen. It could look exactly as it does now, you could use or not use the remote, (***ANOTHER OBSERVATION***, ARE YOU FREAKIN SERIOUS??? I need a hand held remote to work the freakin radio in my damn car??? I drive a CORVETTE!!! For me to reach to the stereo is not really a problem. It is actually more cumbersome to move my arm, unlock and lift up the center console arm rest lid, sort through the little bit of crap I have in there and grab the remote and hopefully not drop it because it is very smooth on the top, bottom and sides, flip it around so it is sitting correctly in my hand, close the console armrest lid back down, and use the remote. Would be much, much easier to just reach a whole 17 inches to touch the face of the unit rather than to fumble phuck around for the remote and use it.***)
I like the unit but I just can’t get past saying that it is a great unit because how heavily it relies on the remote to do everything because we all know this, the remote is going to break, its only a matter of WHEN IS IT GOING TO BREAK is the question.

Strength:

7" screen Versatile DVD player Detachable face

Weakness:

Weak motorized face Without AVM9000R ($1400), can't maximize potential of this unit

This is definitely worth it if you get a good deal, so do not purchase this at full price! It has a bright large 7" screen that has many display modes (Full, Cinema, Normal, Just, Zoom) and has Dolby Digital 5.1 channel. The DVD player is exceptional and can play everything from DVD, VCD, CD, CDR, CDRW and SVCD except MP3CD. That's why I mated it to a Premier DEHP840MP. The only drawback I find is that the motorized face seems weak when it's opening and closing. However, the automatic tilting angle is perfect for DINs that are positioned high or low in your dashboard. Installation took a long time cuz there are alot of wires to sort out and connect.

Strength:

excellent picture quality, all the customisable features, single din, sleek look even when closed, 5.1 dolby (w/ the 9000r), crystal clear sound, many many upgradable options available, and the display is "pretty neat-o"

Weakness:

somewhat slow visual feedback between menu selections and these goddamn remotes have no bloody range!

just got it in at a good price. very pretty display- not at all gaudy. pioneer did a very good job at making the unit tasteful and classy looking even when closed. a lot of associates of mine said that it would take a month or longer to learn the controls, but if you''''ve already familiarised yourself with pioneer products before, you really shouldn''''t have that much trouble. the display is just fancier. great radio reception, fantastic picture quality, a LOT of details to customise your personal listening style. but should you wait for eclipse''''s new single DIN DVD w/ 5.1 due out in july?

Strength:

-7" monitor -Detachible face -One din

Weakness:

-The motor for the flip out seem weak, -To many remotes! -Alot of money too be spending for all the components

Like many ppls out there I wanted the kenwood one with the touch screen. I went for this player because it was the only one that I found with a 7" single din dvd player. I would of been nice to have a touvh screen tho. But then I thought to myself do I really want ppl touching there dirty fingers on my dvd player? The GUI feature Is a must. Ppls please get the pioneer AVD-P9000R it''s worth the money! Doby digital really make a diffrence. If your planning to get a PS2 in your car don''t get the AVX-P7300DVD in stead get the AVX-P7300. The AVX-P7300 is just without a dvd player. Since the ps2 is already a dvd player

Model Reviewed: 2001 Pioneer AVX-P7300DVD

Strength:

Great Picture. No problems with any DVD movies I tried so far. Smallest detachable face I have seen. Looks very ordinary when screen is down.

Weakness:

Remotes do NOT work well at all, and having to fumble with 3 different ones makes it even harder. I have to hit a button 3 or 4 times on each remote to get it to go, so its not just a problem with one remote, even the steering wheel remote is the same. My old Pioneer DEH-835R''s remote was 100% better. Menus are a little slow moving and there is a learning curve to understanding all the features. Took me about 6 hours total to learn all the different menus and know how to get back to each one. Another possible bad part is the DVD Logo in Silver right in the middle, kind of stands out and anyone looking into your car will notice as well if you leave the face on.

I just installed this DVD player along with the 9000R DTS decoder last Friday (Its now Tuesday). It came as a bundle, (AV-SYS9DVD) DVD Player, DTS Decoder, SR90 Steering Wheel remote. So far I am very happy with it. Picture quality is great, but like any LCD, sunlight is a big factor. Sound is amazing although I do hear a slight hiss out of the speakers. Install was quite a chore in a 2000 Civic Si. There are lots of cables to go with this, and I also added my existing Pioneer XM Satellite receiver.

Strength:

i pick this unit because of the 7" monitor. Not takeing both din help too. Get the AVM-P9000R! It worth the money. Well, kind of worth the money. but the sound and graffix it well worthing.

Weakness:

Once you get the final total of the you wanna kick yourself. Im only 20 yr old so to to me that is alot of money. I spent about over $2000 on this player. AVX-p7300dvd $1400 AVM-P9000R $640 GEX-P700TV $250 AN-G3 $80 But once I got everything together I kicked ass. I went on ebay for most of my stuff. there some dude name bumper2bumper where I get my stuff from.

Great DVD player! 1 din is the best. I wanted to go for the kenwood one. But do I really want people to be touching my screen? I know it''s a koo I feature to have. But after awhile you know your screen will pay for it. To me every inch mm counted when choosing a lcd size. The bigger the butter that''s what I say.
