Plays almost anything. I have CDRs that are like 4 years old and really trashed, but they still play. Colors and general look of it is really eye catching and will match almost any interior. Comes with a remote!!! Easy to navigate. Face is pretty scratch resistent and easy to clean. Makes some kind of beeping sound when you turn the car off. Not sure what its for but I'm sure it's good. Reliable as he11. I drift a lot around poles and turns and it never skips a beat.
Weakness:
Battery life in remote sucks when constantly exposed to weather extremes. I have to hit the source button before I eject my cd or my power antennae will constantly go up and down. Replacement remote is expensive unless you do ebay. However, remotes are interchangeable for different models so that is good! Trashing Sony? WOW!! I own a LOT of sony products, some of them 10+ years old, and they all work perfectly. Of course, I take excellent care of my possessions. I bought this cd player in the middle of 2002 for a new car. I had the previous model in my previous car but I didn't have the keys so had to sell it with the car. Being somewhat of an audiophile, I was itching to get the stock head unit out of my vehicle. But, I wasn't prepared for the difference in sound quality with the 400. For someone who wants loud, clear sound without spending a whole bunch of money, I highly recommend this. But don't expect miracles if you drive a pinto with crappy speakers ;) Anyway, I now have two 15s coupled with this baby and good god alive, the sound is amazing. Plenty of boom if you want and incredible clarity for something like classical or techno. Definately pick this baby up if you care alot about your sound. Similar Products Used: JVC. Strength:
Good sound. Lots of power. Lots of connectivity and expandability. It reads CD-R and CD-RW disks without hesitation.
Weakness:
The faceplate is flimsy and difficult to connect and disconnect. It feels really cheap and like it will break easily. It skips 10 times more than a Panasonic in-dash player that is 2 years older. I used to sell Sony products, so I should have known better than to buy one. Sony quality has been steadily getting worse, but this receiver was free from a rewards program, so I shouldn't complain too much. Similar Products Used: Panasonic In-dash CD Player. Faceplate fits better and is more ruggedly designed. |

Strength:
The price, pretty good highs and lows. The remote is nice, but i lost mine and it cost $40 to replace. The buttons are easy to use and not hard to find.
Weakness:
I used to like it but now i think the display is just ugly. Skips(not horrible but enough to annoy me). BTM is the most worthless feature i have ever seen, its finds the strongest radio signal and makes it a presest, so chances are u will be listing to something u dont want to be hearing. My Best Sound Position is another worthless feature, it is supposed to make it sound good for the driver or pasenger but it just makes the sound weaker. It is an ok cd player for the money, however it really lacks allot of features, it just has the bassics and a few worthless feature like BTM and MBSP(il xplain this l8r). It has pretty sound quality but i have a problem with skipping, its gets allot worse with a burned cd, so be warned. Similar Products Used: im gettin an alpine deck soon. |

more rms (23rms) than most more expensive cd players
Weakness:
none I looked around for a cd player that had alot of watts for the money. and i found it, at Wally world. I got my stock system in my car and its the loudest around. The dash of the cd player isnt very fancy but it had great performance. Similar Products Used: jvc, alpnine, pioneer |
