Strength:

NONE!!! well it matches my cars interior and the lights are real nice ,rotf .

Weakness:

doesnt play 80 min cds .. worked for about 4 months.. cant say too much about features ive only owned on mobile cd player and unfortunately its this crap .

Well im using the cd 4000x ,the model below this one i suppose . What a peice of junk this cd player is ..doesnt support 80 min cdr''s ..it worked flawlessly for roughly 4 months. now it struggles to play any cd new ,old ,burned etc.. ive just emailed sony on this matter and after reading the reviews here im might take some legal action if this is a repetitive thing going on. Companies that manufacture and produce defective components should do a recall on thier CRAP ..this is complete bull$hit . Look how much i spent on this hunk of crap ,take into consideration its canadian funds.

Strength:

The lights on its crappy little screen look kinda cool.

Weakness:

Everything. Avoid this thing like the plague.

I used to love Sony car audio. It was all I would buy. Then I bought this piece of poop. After about two months of normal operation the damn thing broke down and started making grinding sounds whenever I put a CD in. Luckily, it was still warrantied. Unluckily, they gave me a Sony replacement which is even worse than the last one(the amount of power it puts out is pathetic, I would guess that its in the 20-25 watt range).

Strength:

It worked fine for a short time. Nice design. Several nice features.

Weakness:

Between me and my friends, our Sony''s stopped working correctly from about 2 months to a little over a year. Power not as it is billed.

This cd receiver worked fine until the warranty ran out. The power was not as good as what was promised, but was very similar to other receivers with a 45w output instead of the supposed 50w with this system. After about eleven months of use (one month after warranty expired), the system suddenly had several problems: error messages constantly come up which prevent cd from playing, if cd does finally play it will skip at the slightest vibration, to play a cd i''d have to change the track numbers to either six or higher right when i put the cd in or the error message would come up. I think the problem is with many of the Sony Xplod cd players. I know two other people with different xplod model players and both are having different problems. I''ve had an Aiwa now for awhile and am very happy with it. Buy an Aiwa!

Strength:

Looks half-reasonable...anybody who buys a h/u for its looks is an amateur, so it''s your call.

Weakness:

Sounds average, build quality is very questionable. Sweet f.a. in the features department...these units really should be cheaper, there are plenty out there such as Blaupunkt or Panasonic which thrash the Xplod range as far as features/$$. Wherever you see the Xplod symbol, the very same amp chip is used, no matter how much you spend. Take my advice and look a bit harder, you''ll be glad you did.

Used to own one of these... unfortunately. I only have one thing to say about Sony car audio on the whole, and here it is: avoid Xplod. The Xplod chip is rated to deliver 50watts x 4 MAX. which should equate to about 25watts or at least 20watts RMS, right? Wrong. This unit has an RMS output of 12.25watts per channel, which really is dismal. Sony and its purists can argue, but that pathetic power output is a rock-solid fact. If you MUST buy a Sony, look for the upmarket "green" units, or at least steer clear of Xplod. They say that X marks the spot...yes it does, and it''s a spot I wouldn''t touch again with a 30 foot barge pole.

Currently using Blaupunkt Honolulu CD50...beats the hell out of this Sony unit by a long way. Cheaper and has more features.
