Strength:

decent power, great EQ for the personalized settings, nice display, love those 4.8 volt pre-outs!!, never has skipped on me.

Weakness:

sun flushes it out, a little more effort to go through menu, method of face detatchment, needs more light for cd input area.

I love pioneer, and this series is a great reciever. It is much better than its' newer brother the 7200. the 7200 does not have the hi volt pre-outs, and only has 2. The 7000R is a strong unit, and I would suggest it ton anyone who asks.

Model Reviewed: 1999 Holden Frontera(Isuzu Rodeo)

Strength:

Ability to change EQ settings without the need for a seperate EQ unit.
Looks great. Easy to operate, once you spend some time with the instruction book.
3X RCA preouts (especially dedicated sub out)
Great tuner. Radio stations long dist. apart in Aust.
4V preouts.******

Weakness:

No CD-text on head unit. Only stacker.
Steering wheel remote is an option. Should be standard.
Price (AUD$950). But still worth it. Boy do we get ripped in Aust.

I have the DEH-P7050R. Same thing just the Australian version. Different AM-FM tune steps.
What a great unit..... Although expensive is well worth the money.(AUD$950)
Have no real problems with sunlight washing out display. Being in a 4X4 may make a difference. There is a lot of sun here.
Great output!!!! Why hasn't mosfets been put in head units before.

Strength:

Adjustable EQ curves + frequency. adjusable crossover frequency.

Weakness:

this deck is a nightmare to navigate. almost all of the parameters ar locked away deep into a menu, even to simply turn the loudness on or
off, something I do qwite often.
It makes you feel like you are getting a lot for your money but it is a headache just to adjust the bass level.

I hate the volume buttons (give me an old fashion knob any day) and there is a toggle switch between the volume knob that shifts to
drastically different EQ curves, useless for someone with an
accurate speaker system.

I am returning this deck next chance I get , I am going to try the
Nakamichi CD-45Z a much more serious deck for about the same price.

Strength:

Mosfet 45x4...gives a real kick to systems not using after market amps.
Sounds very strong in Fords for some reason.
Feature after feature after feature, just when you think you know all about the unit...you learn how to do something else with it.
Total system control
High volt preamps

Weakness:

not particularly user friendly, especially while driving
Display hard to read in sunlight
DFS alarm...useless gimmick

I've used and sold many other products, from many manufacturers, and for all around control and sound quality, the PIO DEHP7000R gets my vote. It is an excellent value for the money.

Strength:

Great over all quality. Good use of being able to tweak the whole system from the deck.

Weakness:

Multiple button pushes to get through menus

I love the deck. I picked it up over the summer. It has pretty much everything that you would ever need in a cd deck. Crossover points, RDS, and much much more. Great display. It does wash out in the sun. Overall great deck.

I just picked this up for $450 CDN (tax included) or about $300 USD (with tax).It is my first unit since my Alpine 7909 (I've stopped spending too much!), and so far I am very impressed. Here is my summary of the unit:

FEATURES:
The Supertuner® III™ is very strong, with crystal clear reception. RDS (Radio Data System) is also handy if you live in a larger urban centre. I'm not sure what allows the Pioneer to do it (could be the AGC (Automatic Gain Control) for Optimum CD Tracking Performance), but it plays CD-R's and CD-RW's! A lot of other decks I've tried couldn't handle the RW's, but this one has no problems.
The IP(Interactive Pioneer)-Bus System Control can control changers, a TV tuner, video, etc. Another cool feature is the Disc Title Memory (48 Discs) which works without having to have a changer... it is sort of a pain to program them in (hopefully CD publishers will get off their asses and make this standard).

POWER:
The MOSFET45 (supposedly puts out 45Wx4 max) is a very decent amplification system for a head. I use Alpine V12 amps, but I tried it first to see how powerful it really was. Based on my own ears, I'd say it puts out a nice and clean 20watts per channel. Still very good for a head unit. Don't by the garbage about powering a sub with it, but it is good for powering the rest of your system if you can't afford external amps. The RCA Preouts (x3 pair) (Front/Rear + Subwoofer or Non-Fading) are extremely clean, and put out about 4-4.2 volts. The only problem I have is that they aren't gold plated.

EQUALIZATION:
Very sweet! The two-way crossover (HPF & LPF) is very handy, especially if your amps don't have them. Front/Rear HPF (50/80/125Hz, -12dB/Oct) and
Sub-Out LPF (50/80/125Hz, -18dB/Oct). You can also control the Sub-Out Level (-12dB to +12dB) and Polarity Control.

The EEQ Performance Chip allows a 3-Band Parametric Equalizer which has 5 factory settings and 1 user preset. The names (Super Bass, Powerful, Natural, Vocal, etc.) are aweful, but they are pretty useful. The custom setting is amazing, because you can fully tweak the system to your liking. In previous years, equalizers that adjusted the Q and stuff were VERY expensive... now you can do it right from this unit!

OTHER:
The Detachable Face Security (DFS™ Alarm) is pretty cool, but if you want real protection get a real alarm. However, you can attach a relay to your door swtiches and horn, so when somebody tries to enter the car the horn/lights will go off.

The wireless slim remote is really tiny, but still pretty useful when you can't take your eyes off the road. Finally, the EL display is gorgeous- not as gorgeous as the organic EL (found on the 8000 for $250+ more), but still very nice looking (particularly at night).

SUMMARY:

PROS- Powerful, cheap, great EQ, nice looking,
excellent CD and tuner section, DFS
CONS- No immediate pause or mute buttons
(you have to scan through menus),
rocker-panel volume (I hate those),
only 1 custom EQ setting for each source

Wow. I love this headunit. (esp. since I got it for $240 brand new!)Will be brief since review above was fairly complete (a couple discrepencies though noted below)

Pros
3 sets of RCA's at 4 volts
Remote control included
Great EQ
includes crossovers!
and more ... to lazy to note them

Cons
Display washes out in full sunlight (gorgeous at night though)
Some controls take several key presses to access

To dispute some notes of the review above, the unit can be muted via the remote, and pause can be assigned to a button, for one button pausing. However, only one of several functions can be assigned to this button, those that aren't assigned to the button require several button pushes to activated. [Func: pause, random, repeat, and intro scan]

EMAIL me with any questions about this unit. I LOVE IT! little_d@gator.net
