Direct fit and easy installation Good features Good performance/sound quality
Weakness:
Had to buy Chrysler wiring harness to do a good installation. I purchased this unit as the simplest and most economic replacement for the AM/FM/Cassette unit that came stock in my 2000 Dodge Caravan. I wanted to gain a CD player and hoped to also get a stronger AM/FM receiver and better sound quality. I have not been disappointed on any count. The installation was as simple as promised -- a direct fit into the factory mounting box with the original bolts. I connected the supplied Pioneer wiring harness to a Chrysler harness available at auto supply stores, Wal-Mart, etc. with no trouble. Each wire on the Chrysler harness was labelled and a clear wiring diagram for the Pioneer harness was included in the installation instructions. With the harness attached, the unit plugs directly into the factory wiring and can be installed in five minutes. I was quoted $1,100 Cdn. for a factory AM/FM/CD unit from Chrysler and $500 to $600 Cdn. for a reconditioned unit. The Pioneer unit cost me only $280 Cdn., i.e. $175 US on eBay plus $16 US shipping. I also got everything I expected and more in features, performance and sound quality. It is much superior to the factory AM/FM/Cassette unit that I replaced in every way.
